I was really looking forward to DA:A. And it starts off so strong, right back into the thick of it. And you got a really good fighter on your side Myrhiri (spelling). Then you meet up with Anders, woo hoo, another wisecracking human. Then there's good old Ogren...And for once the team works cause I'm playing my rogue. Then in comes the love of my life, the man I gave up for the good of Fereldin....and not even a hug? Continuity? Okay so maybe it's really over between us. Back to work, let's get these people joined already.

Ogren, best reaction ever....
Anders, nice he lives...potential sex toy? Hmmmm
Then the fabulous fighting female....no wait she dies...dammit

So I start over with my male saved character. He's a fighter but hey, we'll live right? Wade through the darkspawns all over again, Alistair's indifference completely understandable now, we didn't do the sex dance...And so we go to the joining and I'm thinking, okay now the mage is gonna bite it so I'll get the girl....

Nope she croaks again...

Then I think maybe it's only two out of three so I go back to another save....Ogren go with Alistair... no grey warden for you....

Drink Up anders, yeah he lives
Myrhi? Nope drops dead again....

It's like if you want to be a grey warden, you croak, but if you do it under protest or with reservation...you survive. But that's not what bothers me. It's like  the just cookie cut the story. And the first couple of side quests? Save the damsel...okay, kill a couple of guys, she runs away...Nothing to explore...

Go to the farmlands, kill darkspawn.... nothing to explore there either.

And I can't seem to talk to the characters like I did in DA:O. Or can I only do that when we're back at Vigil? I guess I was expecting too much. Is there any romance in this expansion? Cause I was really looking forward to tangling alot of webs.

So far, I've only seen Alistair, Ogren, and Wynne...And it hasn't been the lovefest I was hoping for....

It's no Mass Effect 2....But then again, what can be?

Well, why would your gender, approval with companions, how they became Wardens, ect. have anything to do with whether they survived or not? Oghren voluntarily became a Warden and he lived. In DA:O you could either follow Duncan around begging to be taken from wherever you start off or be dragged away kicking and screaming due to the right of conscription and you still live. Unless the option was to turn your companions into big drinkers (which apparently lessens the damage the Joining does to you), I don't see why anything you did or were would change whether they could handle the taint.

I know what you mean. I was hoping the decisions I made in DA:O would affect the things I do in the expansion, but alas... It felt so detached from the original. I suppose it's understandable considering you have the option to start out as an entirely new character, but it sucks for those who choose to import.

Ah well, what can you do.

Well that's exactly my point, how much cooler would it be if there were those options? The simple fact is that it really doesn't make a significant bit of difference to the outcome of the game. It just feels like we're given some token dialogue but nothing that makes me feel vested in the well-being of these characters. And I did feel vested when I played Origins. I had like DA:O but other than playing a different class, is there any real differences to the plot? The best part was the ability to build a romance with a character and they took that away...hence my dissapointment...
