Remember Baldur's Gate 2? When you were like, "My God! This is a side quest?"
Off the top of my head I can remember:
- The shade lord quest
- Firekaag in Windspear Hills
- Trademeet
etc. Some argue "Well those were'nt side quests because you needed gold to get to spellhold"- but come on... They really were- you could get to spellhold doing quests in Amn.
So.... Are there any quests like that in Dragon Age? Any areas that are built soley for the purpose of an awesome side quest?
I hope so.... I've so far just been following the story, it's fun but I like to get side tracked.
Any side quests akin to the length and scope of Baldur's Gate 2?

most places are part of the story, but can be passed up. just like baldur's gate, this is one big side-quest. you can partly pass up on all areas but you need to at least go through part of it. some encounters have to be directly provoked and therefore count as side quests.
some grand quests for special armor are long too. i dunno. i need to think and evaluate, what is sidequests and what is not.
think of it this way; depending on your choices, some quests will turn into sidequests, others will remain story quests.... it's an elaborate puzzle.
