I don't know if you noticed this drawing but I'm just posting it to point out it's brilliance. I love stories that jump a few years into the future and show you the progress of a character.

If I ever see my character in his mid-thirties with that miserable look in his face I'll die from a heart attack. :crying:

Haha!!

At this point we should be gratefull is we ever see our Wardens again.

But age progression like this is nice. Really let's you see how your character fared over the years.

See I'm hoping that if BioWare jumps forward in time its like maybe 5-6 years or so and we'd still play as our Warden. I think thats way more interesting than jumping ahead 50 years or so because at least you'd still be able to play as the Warden but things could still have changed enough with your PC and other companions and characters and places to keep things interesting.

If the next expansion is like Awakening then I am offically not going to waste my money again. Wardens Keep was way more fun and rewarding.

what I really like as well, is that Morrigan seems to actually be a Mother. And not another Flemeth-- in the comic series I mean, of course.

That kind of a jump would be neat, especially if they allow us to choose between importing our Warden or creating a new character like they did in Awakening.

Moving DA2 to a new country, giving it a new story and an antagonist that isn't darkspawn would help freshen it out.

But allowing players to build upon what they've created in Orgins and Awakening would be a lot more satisfying than starting from scratch without any connection to what was before.

Anders: A related question: What do Grey Wardens do when there aren't darkspawn running amok?

Anders: I mean, are there parties? Do we travel the world? Take over small kingdoms?

PC: 1.We become forgotten and die young
       2.We remain vigilant
3.That sounds like a good start
       4.Whatever we want to do

Take your pick. I chose #1 :D

I picked #4.

Since afterAwakening the darkspawn have been mopped up for good and my Warden is free to do whatever he desires (which is to go search for Morrigan and their kid).

That's my hope, it gives enough buffer timewise to allow plots and movements to have realistically happened/formed in the game world, while not being so long of a timeframe that your choices and interactions have totally passed into myth, legend, and heresay.

I really think from the hints they have given us that it's going to be an all-out war in the second game; The Mage fraternities have had enough of the Chantry and half of them seem about to split, the Darkspawn are fractioning, the Qunari would have had plenty of time to absorb Sten's information and begin their assault, Ferelden and Orlais still do not hold a lot of love for each other, Antiva still will do whatever puts coin in the Antivans pockets, rumors of Arlathan have hit, the Teventir's would jump on a chance to split away from the Orlesian Theology if, say, their ancestral religion and cultural beliefs came back in the form of a non-Tainted Old God, and of course there has to be more we haven't even had a sniffing of yet.

That said, even if we don't see her with the Wardens again, I REALLY hope Bioware has something better up their sleeve than Morrigan turning evil.

Because her party banter about 'the only way to shapeshift into a form is to copy a creature's SOUL" and that Shale alludes that she may well not even be Human at all, could easily be used as stock villain material in lieu of a more interesting story.

Good point about the soul copying. I'm not sure if there are any limitations - one would think a God would be slighly out of reach - but I'm sure she could at least learn some new tricks from observing the child.

I think Morrigan will be one of those 'from a certain point of view' deals when it comes to good or evil. When I play a noble Cousland I'm rather devout to the Chantry, he'd see a Old God Religion as a threat and possibly evil, as a Mage I'm pretty Anti-Chantry and (lukewarm-ish) Pro-Teventir's ideals of knowledge and freedom of magic, so he'd see her and the OGB cause as more of a 'good' thing. So if they have to do something like that, I hope it's given the option that it depends where you're standing if you are going to back her or fight her on whatever she has going on. I'd be furious if we had another hardline, you get no choice this is how it is, decision with her.

@swoo agreed, a moral greyzone choice whether you support morrigan or not in whatever she is doing in the future would be a great, from a story and roleplaying perspective at least. There are a lot of points they could pick up on in a sequell, I hope we get something substantial that can stand alone as a game as well as give plenty of perks to those that have played the original as well.

Since I mainly post in here anyways, perhaps you fine folk can help me solve a dilemma for a game playthrough. I want to go and try a run with something I've never used before, plus snag some achievements, and I'm deadlocked between two characters. It's either going to be a Human Noble DW Rogue or a Dwarf Noble 2H Warrior.

The Rogue, Robin Cousland. (I couldn't help it; I thought Robin Hood and no other name seemed better :P)

Image IPB

I figure I'd play him like an Erol Flynn type character, going for Duelist with some Assassin on the side and taking the impatient/slightly-arrogant yet still decent/good decisions in the game. He'd probably end up with a Hardened Leliana and be a Folk Hero slash Terror in Orlais after DA:O. I'd spare Loghain for the Redeemer ending, plus I figure a Cousland would have a little hero worship for ol' Mac Tir.

The Warrior, Doran Aeducan. (Doran's Gaelic for Exiled Warrior; Can't get a better name for a Dorf).

Image IPB

I'd most likely make him a 2H tank build, combining Templar and Berserker - a little bit of the surface, a little bit of the undermountains. Would take much more practical choices since a Dwarf wouldn't know or care too much about surface politics, siding with the Templars, wiping out the Dalish if Z won't back down on the curse, not sure about the Black Anvil. Wouldn't romance any character with him as I see him as trying to go back to Orzimmar and regain station and build up the Aeducan name once I take care of Bhelen's punk self.

I haven't played a Rogue past Lothering, and I haven't played a Dwarf past Ostragar, so they'd both be pretty new playthroughs. Each has really interesting options, and I can't decide which to use, so... you tell me which sounds cooler to play!

P.S.: MORRIGAN!

Love the new pages.

Last one was touching, though I was floored upon seeing Morrigan's expression after he said "farewell".

Talk about being on the receiving end of your own game...

What are Morrigan and your mage wearing in that screenshot?

He seems to be using the staff and robe from Awakening, but I don't recognize her outfit.

@Swoo

Why aren't you playing with a dwarven Rogue? If you don't mind playing as a dwarf that is... :P

I haven't played a dwarf past Ostagar either. I played the origins so I can see what is it like. Beyond that, I lose interest.

Shiori, it's the Improved Atmosphere mod. It adds a ton of new armor sets that are drops off various enemies in the game. The staff is from the Revered Father (who also drops a new Mage Robe skin, but it has the Chantry symbol on it and my Mage will NOT wear a Chantry symbol :P), Morrigan is wearing the Cultist Magi Robes off the cultists in the Urn Temple, and my robes are just Senior Enchanter Robes with the fix from Nexus so the arm pattern properly displays. I recommend everyone do at least one run-through with IA, it adds a toooon of awesome things even beyond gear - it changes all the cities, towns, and camps so they actually behave like real towns and such with wandering/loitering/gathered citizens, intelligently gives the NPCs proper armor based on station/faction/race, even mixes in a few new drops that make sense for each Origin, and it amps up the difficulty of each setting to compensate for you having easier access to good gear throughout the whole game.

Blademaster, once I get an idea stuck in my head it's hard for me to tear off from it. If I play a Rogue, it'll be the Cousland, even though a Dwarf Rogue might be a 'best of both worlds' kind of compromise. I just like the idea of the youngest Cousland son being a sort of knave with a heart of gold - also draws a odd parallel to the Howe family with their youngest son being the same way - and the idea of riding off to the Happily Ever After Plundering Orleasian Riches With A Redhead sold me. Same thing for the Dwarf, coming up with ideas for a Dwarf and I ended up with what I posted. Smart players would just go 'Oh, Dwarf Rogue!' but I'm just stupid and can't let go of the idea :P

I understand. If you are not a "smart" player then you posted in the right thread. We could just metagame a playthrough and get an ending with rainbows and flowers. "lulz I'm the queen of Ferelden".

Instead of trying to think smart we decided to be stalkers. Amirite?

Anyway, I would go with the HN, if only because i can't bring my self to RP a dwarf. Rogues are amazing btw.

So, what exactly seems to be a "default" rogue spec?

I'm under the impression that most rogues go for high cunning, duel daggers and light armor.

I've been looking at duelist spec and thinking about Isabella fighting off those 3 idiots in the Pearl.

How easy is it for a rogue to go down the duealist path and use a sword and dagger? Would that require focusing on strength an dexterity and only taking minimal cunning for lockpicking?

Seems to me that such a build would be more like a warrior, preffering a straight fight to delivering backstabs.

My rogues usually go for a mix of sword and dagger. It nerfs the atackspeed a bit and in terms of dps looses out a bit against dual dagger builds. Dualist is a good spec but it does not turn you into a one man army as the fight in the pearl suggests. On rogues the only points worth spending pre level 14-15 on specializations would be the assasins debuff skill. The rest are just nice to get later. You need to pump up lethality, momentum, dual weapon expertice etc before you even think about the specs.

If you are going a cunning build you need approx 20 str to be able to wear the heaviest light armors, but if you want to wield a dagger AND a sword then you will have to go to around 26-27 str in order to with the fade points and item boosts to str be able to equip dragonbone swords.

Once you level up the 3rd duelist skill that boosts defence you are definetely capable of tanking a bit, but you cannot replace a warrior on your party, at least not at higher difficulties since a crushing prison is still the end of you ;D

Here's my current rogue that acts as a semi tank at level 12 on normal but he is wardens keep geared in order to be able to take the beatings : http://social.biowar...e=dragonage1_pc

Anything works, really. Unless you are a min/max person. In this case you'll find out that the only two builds that aren't outclassed by warriors in terms of DPS and survivability are dual dagger builds with either max cunning(DPS) or dexterity(God mode... :P ).

Oh, and be careful when you jump into Leliana's tent swoo. Momentum will drain your stamina really fast and you will end up embarasssing yourself... :D

Yeah, I try not to metagame as much as possible. Using the Dwarf Noble for example, even though I know Bhelen is the absolute best choice for the Dorfs, having his story start off with Bhelen killing my Brother and Father (by association of deeds), casting me off into surface exile, ect... I don't think I could ever side with him on a DN playthrough.

I never understood the stalker argument either. Now, I know you are being totally sarcastic and don't mean it, but I mean the other threads. In real life if I met a girl, fell in love, had a kid, and then she split after saying she didn't want too, I don't know how long I would be able to keep away. For the kid if nothing else. I don't think it's stalker-ish, I think it's being human.

And Leliana is already testing me, urgh. All my Magi breeding is hard to shake off 'Chantry? <grimace> Yes, the Maker is...awesome!' And I just want to run to Morrigan and be like 'THE WOMAN WONT SHUT UP ABOUT SHOES AND FLOWERS, HALP.'

So, what exactly seems to be a "default" rogue spec?

I don't have a lot of Rogue experience right now, but my plan is basically 2 Dex/1 Cun per level. I can get 6 free STR points thanks to the Fade and Tomes which would put me at 18 STR, so I shouldn't have to invest too heavily over the course of the game, plus I may just keep the Cousland Royal Sword (Pictured in my Robin vs Ogre photo a few posts up) since it has no requirement other than only I can use it. For armor, I'll probably use the Shadow Warden or Shade Leathers and just wait until T7 gear drops/shows in shops before I buy and equip it. Or I'll download Duncan's Robe and use Winter Forge to dye it and add stats equal to some other leather item in game (I mainly just use Winter Forge for the option to put Heraldry on shields and dye armor, haven't messed with the enchanting...ever).

I'm going to run with Leliana in the party, so I'm not going to bother using points on lockpicking for my main character and instead use them to beef up my combat skills. I just picked up the first Duelist talent and have to wait something like five more levels before I can get the second one, so it doesn't seem like it's going to hurt me that badly, and it was free thanks to Bodhan's Tome. But my plan is to build up my Stealth and Poisons (and maybe Traps, never used Traps before), while working on my combat skills. I'm really liking the ability to chuck flasks and then wade in for a backstab, stun, backstab; It's pretty brutal.

I'm really curious about how this will turn out...

I'm interested in seeing where the author thinks it'll lead myself.
