I'd scale those hopes back if I were you. On a list of big name companies that are supposed to show the the expo, IGN didn't add Bioware to their list and TOR was under Lucasarts banner. Maybe it's because they're gonna show up and bust out a surprise, but not being mentioned at all does make me worry. Also, I've noticed some of us have been ragging on good old uncle George. Come on guys, if it weren't for him, SW wouldn't even exist. It's his property and he can do what he wants to it. It's kind of like with DA, we get really attached to it and want it to live up to all of these expectations, however in the end, Bioware created it and could do whatever the hell they want with it. Yes, the prequals are crappy compared to the legendary Original trilogy, but for what they are, I love them. I love SW as a whole and will watch any of the movies with equal enjoyment.

Well, given that BioWare's only officially announced project is TOR, I'd guess we'll at least get an announcement + teaser for the 2/1/2011 DA thing. I mean it just seems to be the nature of video games that you usually announce well in advance of the game's release to get the seed planted in people's minds that the game is coming. I don't necessarily expect tons of gameplay footage or anything necessarily, but a teaser for the 2/1/2011 thing would be good and not too much to expect, I think.

Yeah, I don't hate Lucas or anything, but at least with the prequels- ugh. They had potential to be pretty damn good and outside of the last half of Episode 3, were rather "meh." I think Lucas just needed a good producer like Gary Kurtz to reign himself in at times, but instead once Kurtz left you got Ewoks in Jedi and then the prequels.

But yeah, if BioWare wants to have cute talking puppies riding on unicorns across lush green, sun drenched meadows in DA2, hey thats their call. But if thats the case, BioWare won't be getting my $$$. I think its just a matter of BioWare (or Lucas if you like) acknowledging the strengths of their previous efforts and keying off of those for future endeavors. Sure they could do anything they want, but at least with Lucas, just becausse you've got the money and technology to do something doesn't mean you should :) *cough* Jar-Jar *cough*

Too true.... Oh my g-d.... what if Gaider comes across these posts and decides to play some sick twisted joke on DA fans and makes Jar Jar into a manditory companion that can't leave (like Alistair)? ABORT ABORT!!!!!

Ya, we can only hope that BW will listen to us. I mean trying different things is great and all, but when Ray was talking about how DA was for the really hard-core Bioware fans, I couldn't help but feel that they were being a bit hypocritical with releasing Awakening with that g-d aweful convo system (it's pretty much ME2's system which they claimed was for the more casual players) and a hack-n-slash DLC. Of course this interview with Ray was before both of these things came out, but still.

Another thing that's been bugging me. I hate people (well I don't actually hate them, but you get what I mean) who claim that we (we being supporters of continuity and Morrigan) can't just let it go and move on. What they don't realize I think, is that we're more than happy to start a new story with a new protagonist, THE SECOND THAT THe CURRENT STORY IS ACTUALLY FINISHED. It's like what if SW (such a great franchise for making comparisons, I loves me some SW Posted Image) just ended on ep. 5 and moved on to the prequals or episode seven (and ep. 7 didn't follow the Skywalker line and just mentioned it here and there). WTF? Would people really be ok with that? Sure, ep. 5 ended well enough with that nice shot at the end, but what about the empire? What about Han? Vader being Luke's daddy-o? Leaving things up to the viewer or player in this case is great once in a while, but when the loose plot line is that interesting and important, why wouldn't you tie it up? Continuity is the way to go IMO, sure there are those that want an all new story, but from what I've seen on the forums, the majority wants this story to be wrapped up properly. BW would really be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't tie them up one way or another. And I don't mean through codex entires either...

But like the both of us said, it's their property, they own it, they can and should do whatever they want with it.

I agree, I would have absolutely no problem with having a different protagonist in DA2 if our first Warden was given closure. While Origin's was pretty crappy, it is a little better than the "The Warden's tale is not over" that Awakening gave us. Heck, one good DLC that had a pretty definitive ending would be enough for me.

You really ought to buy a 360.  There really is a lot of content you miss.  Having said that, I need to upgrade my PC for full utilitarian gaming and capturing mods and general flexibility.  Seriously, the 360 (no to PS3--framerates are not good) is a good thing to have in the house/apt. XBOX Live, despite the $50 annual fee, (which you must have to get the full experience) has massive free content and of course pay DLC.  Red Dead is completely badass, but you have to take my friend's word for it, because I'm still obsessing on AO2 trying to get my 6666 achievement, which is a helluva lot harder than it sounds.  He and I are going to hook up for a little co-op Red Dead in the near future, which is coming soon I'm told. You may even want to give Gears of War a try to see where Bioware got their gameplay from for ME.  Best multi-player bar none (only my opinion of course, but I have played it for years now).

I can't say enough for the multi-player experience on XBL.  That alone is worth the price for me.

BTW, you'll get use to the controller quick enough.  It's all situational buttoning and sticks, but it may take a little time to get used to having been used to the perfect targeting of the mouse.

You can pick up an Elite now for $299.  Pretty good price and black is bad.  Don't think of it as your main gaming device, but definitely have one for all those games you really want to play but either can't get for or don't want to wait to come out for PC.  I have alot of friends who have both.  One is a WoW crackhead and Gears fanatic, so you definitely won't be alone on dual platforms.

Let me know if you ever get on and I'll send you my gamertag.

I am leaning towards getting a PS3 to be honest bit I'm torn between the two.

On one hand, I already have a 360 controller which I use with my PC. I also played Gears 1 and even though it was a bad port I enjoyed it. The 360 has Gears 2 and all bunch of amazing shooters with multi-player.

On the other hand, God of war is one of my favorte game titles(if not the all time favorite). If I get a PS3 I might just get it for GoW3 alone. Along with Uncharted.... I didn't play it but my buddies are bugging me to get a PS3 so I can play it. Oh yeah, PS3 also got a price drop so it's just too tempting now.

So, is anyone willing to speculate about what Morrigan hopes to gain from the god child?

Also, will it be a normal child with the power of the Old God or will it be more like Connor in Redcliffe; an Old God possessing the body of a child?

Possible Reasons:

1. Possession of Child herself, aka Flemeths Plan

2. Raise the most powerful mage ever seen, and create a more powerful version of herself.

3. Destroy the Chantry with the Old God, or the Circles freeing mages.

4. Control the Darkspawn and thus the world.

5. Start an Fastfood chain and get filthy rich.

Of course the story is left so open that the writers can literally flex in any direction.  It's written well enough that no matter the course they choose we'll all be sitting back reflecting afterward that "see, the evidence was there all along."  I think BW does a good job of opening up their plots, awaiting player feedback, and then deciding the specifics of what to do from there.  Bottom line, the story is so open that anything we discuss will never pass beyond speculation until the story is revealed.

However, I do not think the OGB will be like Connor or even a possessing spirit.  The child, I think, will almost be unaware of it's special nature, but will be special nonetheless.  I think the child will be a "normal" human child (it will look human), but with the essence of an old god.  What that essence is will remain a mystery until we meet in the story.  The child could be a Mordred of course, but it also could be new savior if you will.  It may come to realize it's special power over time when he/she is out playing in the woods and raises it's hand to shield his/her eyes from the sun, only to spontaneously ignite a huge tree into flames.

It may reluctantly embrace it's power and use it for good, or it could guard it covetously for purposes of ill later on.  Much depends on Morrigan's intentions with the child.  I believe that she will weild great influence with it.  Whether the child is something that grows beyond her ability to "control" (for good or for ill) is probably the subject of a thread itself.  I tend to envision the child at this point as the reluctant savior...and a girl!

See I think the whole aspect of MOrrigan having an infleunce on whether the child becomes "good" or "bad" is pretty interesting. One reason I'd like the Warden to come back into the picture would be to kind of help parent the OGB too, so that maybe your responses to the OGB help shape its outlook on the world. Say they do something like that in DA2 and close off the Warden and Morrigan's story then come DA3 or whatever with a grown up Old God Person and based on what the PC and MOrrigan taught the OGB, it will either be a "good" or "evil" companion or NPC. I think that would be pretty cool.

You know, you can have both.  I actually do have a PS3, but only play "Uncharted" on it; it's a pretty fun little game.  I use it every so often, but mainly only for the BlueRay.

Having used both, the XBOX 360 is a much better gaming platform imo, with double the frame rates in most higher end games, and with a better game selection.  Solving the God of War thing is tough, but don't they release them on PC eventually?  A little closer to home, Dragon Age is very poorly supported on the PS3 and Mass Effect (1 or 2) were not released on the platform.  Just food for thought.

The thing is, some XBOX exclusives are available for PC players(Mass Effect, Fable etc), but the same cannot be said about PS3 games. God of War is excusive to sony and I don't think they plan on giving it to microsoft any time soon. With PC and PS3 I'll have a bigger array of games to choose from.

I heard that the 360 performs better than the PS3 for multiplats but my PC blows both of them out of the water. :D I'm only considering getting a console for the exclusives. I'll use my PC for games like Dragon Age and Fallout.

I don't do "console wars" I just buy them all, they've all got exclusives that the other ones don't - PS3 has Uncharted 2 which is one of the greatest games I've ever played with a fantastic engine & some Claudia Black goodness :) It's
also got the likes of Valkyria Chronicles which has a superb battle system and beautiful aesthetics. Likewise, the 360 also has its merits, but despite the fact I've got a large library of titles for it at lot of them do feel somewhat generic. But yeah, if you've got the cash to spare and the desire to play said exclusives I'd say go for it. A decent PC will always put the consoles to shame though but at least with the consoles you don't have the DRM nonsense to work around.

"And the Warden disappears but their adventure goes on..." sounds like certain Bioware endings I've seen before.

Add me to doubting the Warden's return. But then I don't think Awakenings was done by the whole same team, most of those guys were probably already working on DA2.

Not sure about the designers, but the writers were the same ones from Origins.

At least I know David Gaider wrote Nathaniel, Anders and Justice and is listed as a lead writer in the credits.

Now they just need to keep Lucas away from it as much as possible...

The problem with Lucas right now is he has risen to such a point he has nobody around him that can tell him 'No' anymore. If you go back to the taped recordings of him coming up with both Star Wars and Indiana Jones, he had amazing people in the room like Martin Scorsese, Leigh Brackett, Stephen Spielberg, and Lawrence Kasdan. And for every idea he worked on, he had another one they shot down. Like Indiana Jones not using a bullwhip but knowing Kung-Fu, or Chewie basically having a pet Ewok.

My friend Dave works at Blizzard and they have a sign there that says 'The Customer isn't always right, but sometimes they're not wrong either', which I took as meaning you can have a plan as much as you want, but sometimes you have to give the customers what they want and not what you had planned as long as you can feel good about making it work.

No blade, resist the dark side of consoleros ;D The pc force is strong
in you, I can feel it!!! Hold on xD

I have offically left the Console Era after being hooked on it with the very first NES when I was like three. I had a 360 and it sat there and gathered dust because whatever I could play on it, I could play something better on the computer. And when you have the option of the same game for Console or PC, PC is always better. So yeah, I shant be purchasing the next gen ones, ever.

Also, will it be a normal child with the power of the Old God or will it
be more like Connor in Redcliffe; an Old God possessing the body of a
child?

I personally see it as Damien from the Omen with the almost otherworldy insight, intelligence, and without all the fire and brimstone of Hell from the movie. I would think the knowledge and memories of the OG would come in tiny snippets - like dream fragments, or a 'room' in the Fade when he/she 'sleeps', and less of a sustained consciousness.

Oh, and be careful when you jump into Leliana's tent swoo. Momentum will
drain your stamina really fast and you will end up embarasssing
yourself..
. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png

I must have avoided getting this somehow. After we dealt with Marjoline I had her at basically 100 without even trying, in the conversation I was pushing her to open up about Marj and she basically blurts out I love you and we'll talk later. The later talk is the tent talk, and afterwards it showed her watching me sleep and making comments about my eyelids...creepy Orleasian! :P

But yeah, no stamina issues as of yet. I wonder if it was the reputation with her, the convo choices, or having completed Sweet Iona in the Origin story.

I love it in Leliana's romance where you can totally play dumb when Leliana is trying to get you to sleep in her tent. I think the dialogue is something along the lines of you having to write down the day's events in your journal. And then Leliana is like, "You have a journal....?" And then you just keep playing stupid until she pretty much blurts it all out.:P

It went something like This

Leliana: I think I will turn in early, I cant help thinking about how soft and warm my bedroll is.

Warden: I think I will stay up and write in my journal

L:YOu have a journal and write in it reguraly?

W: WHy is that suprising

L: Oh not so suprising, but maybe you can put an special note in it today:

like "Dear Journal Leliana invited me to share her bed, but I totally didnt get it"

W:UH WHAT?!?

Haha Brock, it's hilarious when you play stupid. Here's my favorite way of getting in her tent.

Leliana: But now it's getting late. I think I might... turn in early. I can't help thinking about how soft and warm my bedroll is.

PC: You don't want to talk to me anymore?

Leliana: Oh, of course I do. You know I enjoy your company. But it's getting a little chilly and I'd prefer to be in my bedroll.

PC: Well, I shan't keep you.

Leliana: You know, it would be nice if you came with me.

PC: What for?

Leliana: So I can show you my collection of pressed flowers, obviously.

PC: I didn't know you collected pressed flowers.

Leliana: I... don't. Stop pretending you don't know what I want.

PC: I have no idea what's going on.

Leliana: Oh, the games you play. Listen, I want to spend the night with you. There, I said it.

PC: You could have just asked me. Properly.

Leliana: Giggles Where's the fun in that?

PC: I don't think I could turn down such a proposition.

Leliana: Good. Now come with me, before I lose my patience.

:D

So, is anyone willing to speculate about what Morrigan hopes to gain
from the god child?

That's a very good question but seriously hard to answer without even knowing anything about the Dark Ritual thanks to the plothammer stonewalling we recieved.

I would think the most obvious answer would be that [Morrigan] is part of the Old God/ Dragon Cultists clique, and this is a move to return the old ways onto Thedas. Problem with that is it seems so obvious I have to think they will come at us from left field instead.

Another idea is that Flemeth is playing Morrigan hard, or they played us like fools and are still working together. We don't know what Flemeth's 'Demon' is - my guess is it's either a proxy to the Old Gods, or perhaps an unknown lesser diety to their little draconic pantheon. The plan could go so many ways, to resetting the ideas Dumat passed on to the ancient Teventirs, to revenge against the Chantry and the Children of the Maker for imprisonment, to just wanting to get power back.

Or as Morrigan told us, the thing she knows best is that survival means more than anything else. Having the most powerful living creature on Thedas on your team has to play to that philosophy strongly. It's entirely possible Morrigan wants to go the Olympias route (Alexander the Great and all that) and she wishes to gain as much power and security to not have to worry about Templars, Chantries, or Flemeth again by riding in the wake of her child's success.

These are just off the top of my head, I'm sure we could come up with more - some even crazier than the above babbling!

I don't know if you noticed this drawing but I'm just posting it to point out it's brilliance. I love stories that jump a few years into the future and show you the progress of a character.

If I ever see my character in his mid-thirties with that miserable look in his face I'll die from a heart attack. :crying:

I don't know how I missed this post but yes, I love the age progression cheat sheets. I cranked open the CC and made one myself of my mage just to see the Harrowing to Landsmeet Vet to Commander of the Grey progression of my favorite Amell. The Teventir Robes you can get for males look pretty good in my opinion, and the First Enchanter/Avernus' Robes look more like greatcloaks than robes so I found them very easy to use. The lower level robes? Total crap, yeah.

Argh... why can't you just enter a console command and modify your character?

The only way I know that lets you change your appearance is to start from scratch. I can't replicate my favorite Cousland if I start all over again. :(

I want him to have gray hair and black circles under his (sad)eyes...  lol

Morrigan would never want to see him like that... :D

Maybe the Old God has no memories when reborn just it's power, and then I guess really anything is possible, but I don't think that is the case. I think before the Architect woke the Old God up on accident. Flemeth met the Old God in the Fade and made a deal with her/him to help him get free. Since in your codex it says the Old Gods roam the fade like any other spirit. And the Old God tells Flemeth of the Dark Ritual, and maybe Flemeth gets some Old God goodies like Blood Magic x1000, and the Old God becomes free from the Maker's dormat prison and the Darkspawn taint, but when you kill or whatever with Flemeth and give her writings to Morrigan. Morrigan begins to understand and put the puzzle together.

Step 1: Get knocked up by Grey Warden

Step 2: Return Home, Get possessed by Flemeth

Step 3: Flemeth has Old God baby

Step 4: Flemeth gets her boon

But instead it turns into

Step 1: Get knocked up.

Step 2: Run away

Step 3: Have Old God baby

Step 4: Take Flemeth's Reward

I don't know this whole Morrigan/DR thing is such a cliff hanger they could go anywhere with it just about.
