Or getting Trading Cards after the knocking of boots either.

Yeah, that whole aspect of things was a bit goofy and I think I read that in The Witcher 2 they're getting rid of that. But the whole atmosphere of the game was really unique- in a lot of ways it seemed more like what BioWare was trying to do in DAO, what with the whole grimy, semi-realistic medieval asthetic with racism and politics and all that. The Witcher isn't a perfect game by any stretch but once you get past the slow start and can overlook the mediocre dialogue and voice acting, its got some neat ideas. The whole consequences aspect of things is nice, even if it occassionally goes into "Gotcha!" territory.

I really enjoyed the Witcher and I think as a matter of fact DAO "borrowed" quite a lot of things from it, like the conflicts between the different races, the grown up sex and other adult themes and became a much better and deeper game as a result.  Looking forward to Witcher 2, Geralt of Rivia is about the only male game character I have really enjoyed playing....

All right, question for everyone: In my current DW Warrior Cousland run, what should I spec Morrigan as? She's my primary mage and I got one of the Shapeshifting mods so that its actually useful. Should I spec her as a Blood Mage or Spirit Healer? Blood Mage seems to make more sense RP wise, but Spirit Healer is pretty useful too, even if it doesn't make as much sense from a RP POV.

How do you usually spec out Morrigan?

Spirit Healer ftw!

Here's some preview screens for you guys of the scene where you betray Morrigan, the entire thing has been upgraded to a full blown cutscene alongside a Morri/Templar standoff, which I think works pretty nicely. Now that I think about it I'll probably have to retweak the camera for these scenes for dwarves since they'll be out of the shot in some instances.  I also need to put a perpetual grin on Alistair's face during the whole scene :)

Still got to finish up the scene ending and throw in a few more facial expressions and weight shifts here and there, these screens are from various WIP versions from the past few hours so some things may change slightly but this should give you the general idea of how the restored scene will play out.

First up, the Warden commits the most heinous of crimes - betraying Morrigan to the templars...

Morri's not too happy about this turn of events...
Posted Image

For romancing Wardens only, Morri is saddened by your betrayal (approval drops to 0 iirc)
Posted Image

Next up, Greagoir orders Morri to give herself up, some templar goons appear on cue:

Posted Image

Swords are drawn...

Posted Image

Morri's in a tight spot as the templars advance...
Posted Image

With her back nearly against the wall, the door to the tower opens as a templar walks in unexpectedly. Morri sees this as her chance to escape.

But not before giving a parting speech...
Posted Image

And readying a suitable fiery spell to mark her exit...
Posted Image

Morri's been watching the Matrix...
Posted Image

Morri's counter spell before her transformation and swift egress

Posted Image

Needless to say, once this is fully restored you'll want to save your game before choosing this option or you'll have one angry sorceress coming to visit when it comes to the Dark Ritual.

Looks awesome Terra, did you manage to figure out how to do the shapeshifting part to your satisfaction, or used a different workaround?

Looking great Terra.

Though I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to bring myself to betray Morri like that.

If I had a choice to kill her?

No, I wouldn't do it under any circumstance. She's my favorite character in DA and I couldn't bring myself to harm her in any way.

Unless, ofc, the writers brought on their plot hammer of doom...

Death does not automatically equal a good ending just because it's dark and tragic. Not personally attacking you Shade, it just seems to be a misconception that many carry because of 'Dark Fantasy'. Death and loss is just a part of the storyteller soup, you can still get what you want or need, rising above the grime so to speak, and it is still 'dark fantasy'.

I can't think of a single party member that's done anything to my PC that would make them deserving of a blade (or fireball in my case). And Morrigan dying just to wrap up the story would be the cheap way out.

In my mind, dark fantasy means that you need to make sacrifices and hard choices in order to get the ending you desire.

Happy endings are possible, but they come with a price.

The question is how high a price someone would be willing to pay in order to get what they want?

You restored the missing betrayal scene and you didn't bother restoring her line during the DR... I'm hurt [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sad.png[/smilie]

Kidding kidding.... good job as usual.

I agree. So, a romancing Warden accepted her ritual to what end? To save his sorry ass and then watch her(and possibly his child too) get killed? It would be even lamer if they die from his hands.

As if the poor sod(the Warden) hasn't got enough taste of tragedy already.

Well Blade, I'm perfectly fine with that if it's the endgame culmination of my choices and actions to the Warden-Morrigan story in any hopeful continuation. All I want is some semblence of control and choice if they meet again. I don't need an idyllic and they live happily ever after (I think that would bore me as much as her) ending, but I don't want to be forced into tragedy at the very end simply because 'we like gritty'.

With no idea how the next installments shall go, and if we even will get the chance to play as the Warden, it's hard to provide examples, but it doesn't take too much work to realize there are plenty of ways to go with a good ending to the story without it becoming picturesque.

Yes, I used a similar method to what happens if she leaves during the dark ritual scene to transform her, which works pretty nicely.

Yeah, the key factor is how its presented and whether or not it provides a resolution to Morrigan & the Warden's respective story arcs. If they continue on with Morri's story without allowing me to continue on as the Warden its going to create an immediate disconnection for me the player with both the character and the franchise itself if I'm honest and it justs sets a bad precedent going forwards. As I've said before it's all very well having a hugely ambitious script for a project but it's the final product that matters and if that suffers cuts due to being overambitious from inception or inadequate time to finish everything up then all you end up with is a disgruntled fanbase (ie: every player who romanced Morri) demanding satisfaction.

I've just been trying to imagine a way in which Morrigan continues to play a role in DA while the Warden is left out of the picture that would still be satisfying. Maybe I'm being myopic, but the only way I don't end up massively disappointed is if they give the Warden some sense of closure thats meaningful for the Hero of Ferelden. So, basically getting crushed by a really big rock isn't going to cut it, neither is just mysteriously vanishing and never being heard from again.

Having Morrigan conveniently factor into the plot with some new PC will royally tick me off, especially if nothing is ever heard from the Warden again or if the Warden is just given some dinky write off at the start of DA2. Thats totally ignoring the whole OGB aspect of things, especially if your Warden is the father.

And like you mentioned Terra, no matter how ambitious and awesome the script is in its infant stages, the only thing that matters is the finished product that the consumers get. So knowing that cuts always end up being made, I just hope that enough of the original material gets into the final game to satisfy BioWare's original vision. I don't think thats any sense of entitlement or anything, its merely wanting to get the full story, and not some cookie cutter version that leaves you scratching your head, like the DR.

In any event, E3 is now only about 1 week away, for better or worse- either we'll be super excited, it will be the killing blow to our hopes and myopic dreams, or we'll just be left going "Huh?" when no DA news comes out.

Terra, is that scene you're restoring voice acted? Did they cut it at the last second or is it just the lines?

I'm quite sure thats 100% voice acted- you can find the dialogue of it in the toolset if you do a little digging.

Yes it's a fully voice acted scene. The scripting comments in the toolset say it was cut as there was no cinematic for morrigan leaving and it caused GUI issues. The notes basically suggested that Morrigan turns into an animal and flees. All this stuff with the templars surrounding her is merely stuff that I'm adding in to bring some life to what would otherwise be a bland 2-way conversation between Morrigan & Greagoir. Long story short - I've created the cutscene from scratch to match the dialog lines which were cut.

Never.  You could at least try to make it optional you know

If I knew you were going to work on the missing scene with the templars first then I would have never brought it up.

Muahahaha!!! In fact, I won't reveal the rest of the bugs I found...[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/devil.png[/smilie]

The one Brock posted a few pages back. It's a line from the DR that is hidden and almost impossible for you to see and click.

It only shows up if you agree to convince Alistair. Yeah, who in his right mind would send her to Alistair? wtf Gaider? Since no one picks that option, no one gets to say that line.

I've been bugging Terra for a while to put that line in the DR conversation she has with the PC.

Its the dialogue you get if you tell Morrigan you'll talk to Alistair or Loghain about doing the Ritual and then come back to Morrigan. Its really some of Claudia Black's best VO work, IMO and some of the best dialogue for the Warden romancing Morrigan. Yet for some reason I can't fathom the only way you get it is by turning Morrigan down and saying you'll try to convince someone else to do the DR. Anyway here its is from the toolset, but you really should try to listen to it, its very well done:

Morrigan: Little time remains. I suggest you go to Alistair's room quickly.
PC: Morrigan, I don't want to lose you.
Morrigan: Don't be a fool. I am already lost. (VO note: she says this gently, almost with exasperation-- she loves the player but this is already done)
Morrigan:
This must be done. For your sake, as well as my own. I... I told you that this could not be, did I not? (VO note: she falls apart a little--she is in love with the player even though this can never be)
Morrigan: Go. Do what you must. (VO note: her heart is breaking here, and she cuts him off)

Like I said, this chunk of dialogue is probably the most Morrigan romance-centric dialogue in the DR, yet you only get it if you're trying to get Alistair or Loghain to wade through Morrigan's swamp. I just don't get it.

Just an idea I had for DA2- seeing as ME2 is more of a shooter than traditional RPG, if BioWare started to genre blend Dragon Age, what direction would you like to see it go?

Personally, I would love it if BioWare threw some Total War-esque Strategy elements into Dragon Age. Just take Origins and Awakening for example- you've got Ostagar, Denerim and Vigil's Keep as your big battles. The thing that always bugged me with the depiction of these battles (especially Ostagar) was the total lack of being able to comprehend what was going on in the battle at large.

I would love it if we end up with another huge battle situation in DA2, we get to play General a bit. Maybe be able to formulate a battle plan on a big map, order certain companions to certain areas of the battle field to do certain things- kind of take ME2's suicide mission idea and blow it up to an even larger degree. I thought Awakening would maybe try that with Vigil's Keep and how we had to order troops to protect areas but was disappointed with that. Just an idea....
