However, Bioware's decision in ME2 is clearly to make the game more mainstream and you can't get more mainstream than shooters. I don't know, but I thought both RPGs and RTS or Strategy games in general are not so mainstream (barring Starcraft / Korea's religion). So I am not sure that would get a lot of attention. But hey, if it's marketed well, why not?
Afterall, many RTSs today are absorbing RPG elements, especially in SP, like in Dawn of War 2 and StarCraft 2 campaigns.

I love your idea Brockololly. And I've argued in a old thread of mine that I wished DA's end part was more strategic in nature (but don't get me wrong, despite its flaws I thought the end game was epic). Awakening sort of did this by giving us a strategic choice at the end. But I still did not feel as much of a commander as I would have liked.

Yeah, if DA was solely focused on PC, absorbing some RTS type elements might go over easier, but given the consoles, I'd doubt we'd ever see anything of the sort, what with RTS games being practically non-existent on consoles. Maybe a RTS DA spin off?
It just seems to me that trying to implement more strategy type elements would be a natural way to go with DA. I mean its the one thing that always bothers me watching Ostagar play out. Why the hell is Cailan having all of his troops charge out from the fortifications? I just think it would be cool to play the Loghain/General part for once and come up with a battle plan with your companions and maybe have vastly different outcomes based on not only your tactical decisions, but also upgrades, troop placement and all that sort of thing.
How cool would it be for you to be in the last big battle in DA2, have set up your battle plan, everything is going well and then maybe have a messenger come up while you're hacking and slashing and give you news that maybe the enemy is breaking through in one area where companion X is located. So do you go to that area to help companion X or stick to your current location and hope companion X pulls through? Or maybe because of how you completed a quest, you get an unexpected influx of reinforcements or conversely expected reinforcements that you had planned for in your initial battle plan don't show up based on your prior RPG questing actions? Basically take the Suicide mission idea from ME2 and make it way bigger and complicated with more dynamic tactical and strategic planning choices.
Doubtful that will happen anytime soon, but one can hope:whistle:

Although I loved the massive impovement in so many areas in ME2 over ME1, there where so many issues that detracted from the game for me. Although hey now I get Tali! Guess I can get over the fact that you cant talk to a member of the opposite sex, unless you are talking about sex!
The ME games are fantastic fun, but compared to DA they fail in the dialogue choices and characters, IMO. One of the things I love in DA is how if you are a male PC you can be friends with Leliana or Morrigan if you want. Compare that to Mass Effect where if you turn down romance with someone they pretty much shut down.
Tiny tidbit of Dragon Age news: Dragon Age anime movie being made? Huh? Seems like the EA sort of thing to do. Probably will be like the Dead Space or Dante's Inferno anime movie they had...
Oh, and I'll delve into negativity now- the anime is supposed to come out in 2011... how much do you want to bet that the 2/1/2011 thing isn't a game at all but some crummy anime movie?

If your aproval with her is over 70, you can tell her that being raised in the Circle Tower could have been her fate. She's tell you about what Flemeth taught her and will doubt if it was true.
After that, she'll agree to let you do whatever you want with the mages and you won't lose any aproval.
Morrigan can actually be reasoned with if she likes you enough. Often this can prevent her from losing aproval.
As for the DR, that whole event was a massive plot hammer by the writers, so don't be surprised by the lack of information from Morrigan, or by the fact you can't even ask her an obvious question like "why are you leaving?".
Any frustration from that event is due to writers wanting to be all mysterious and not due to Morrigan's character.

If that is true, I don't know what I will do. That sounds like a terrible idea.

Speaking of insight in the final battle templars are way more useful than mages.Giggles_Manically wrote...
Have any of you noticed that for all of Morrigans supposed insight and knowledge she can realy put her foot into her mouth? I brought her to the tower with my mage cause I never did before, and she is advising me to kill all my friends and burn my home? Especially in the Dark Ritual dialouge, she expects me to trust her with the OG soul without telling me her friend so called anything?
It justs bugs me, but it is only a small complaint, since I have been replaying Jade Empire and having a lot of fun.

Why do I get the feeling that this is gonna end up worse than the silly bazaar? They hype up their fans with a date and everyone expects some game news... and then BAM! they announce something stupid.
I hope you are wrong Brock...

But, if BioWare just releases the anime with no game attatched to it, with the big mysterious 2/1/2011 thing being just the anime movie, I will have the biggest facepalm of my life. The facepalm will be followed by the resounding thud of my head crashing into my desk, which will be heard around the globe. BioWare and EA marketing can't be that aloof could they?!? Could they? Having the 2/1/2011 thing be a DA anime would be an Ovaltine moment of epic proportions.
I'm hoping its not just the anime, but after the whole Bazarre hulabaloo, I don't know what to think. Regardless, we've got only 170 hours until EA's E3 conference (5pm EST or 2pm PST, Monday June 14th)....

I hate EA for trying to cash in and ruin every thing. Every single series they own gets run into the ground, it is sickening. I was looking forward to TOR but since it involves EA no thanks. All this DLC garbage, and exclusive ferver is to much. I like games, but EA is flat out the worst company at the moment.

Spore might have been a fun little game if they hadn't hyped it up to say that you could create your own civilization and help them evolve. The only fun part was the beginning stage, and then it just sucked.
Though I'm not saying EA is THE ENEMY, I'm just saying that hype ruined Spore.

Well, I won't stick up for EA's marketing as its their job to create hype, for better or worse. But EA has a job to make money and if they think that by making a DA anime or crappy DLC will make them money, they'll do it. Don't want crappy anime or crappy DLC? Don't buy it! They're not making this stuff for the hell of it after all.
And I'll kindly disagree that "EA is flat out the worst company at the moment." Of all the major third party publishers, I'd say EA is probably one of the best, at least from the gamer's perspective. Activision? Ha, yeah enjoy your $15 recycled map packs. Congrats on dismantling Infinity Ward, Bobby Kotick. Ubisoft? Meh- as a PC gamer their DRM is total rubbish.

There is a DA comic being published and as far as I can tell it only featured a few minor characters like Gregoir.
Thedas is pretty much unexplored territory at this point and they could base the anime anywhere and it would have nothing to do with Origins or Awakening.

If dragon age would get the financial backing that rockstar threw at GTAIV and read dead redemption then it would be a different level of awesome alltogether. Still you cannot expect a niche product like dragon age to ever compete against that monster, its shooter vs rpg, fantasy vs crime...and crime and edginess tends to win that battle financially, not to mention what a shooter does do the poor sob competition that is the rpg (at least financially) ^^
I also watched those 2 animes and thought they were rather meh, but frankly if they could pull off a berserk/cowboy bebop/ghost in the shell/evangelion level anime worthy of the dragon age title it could be pretty interesting. Perhaps a prelude to DA2 introducing the conflict that the player has to solve in the game, or perhaps a story from a previous blight that illuminates some sections of the lore that will be important in the next game? They could do well if we are lucky, or fail miserably (a lot more likely). In the end it will be the game that I judge, not the marketing material

Well concerning the release date: We have known about the DA game date a while now, and we do know that a dragon age title is dated for that day for various platforms, its not like they would put that in their financial report and then scream "gotcha" and give us an anime instead xD More likely its a promotion for the game, not the game itself
