My friend ruined my ability to take Morrigan seriusly I tried to play through with her and this happened:

Morri:Its so cold and lonley in my tent
Warden: Oh..

Friend:

Now every time I try to do this, I laugh to hard to concentrate.

I hate when Morri is trying to be romantic or seductive ("It's so cold in my tent..."), because she sounds so phony. But besides Alistair, she's my favorite romance.

EDIT: Top of page.

I don't have any Morri screenshots, so here's the wallpaper I made of her.

Agreed.
I think it's a great drawing, but it looks like a cute girl dressed up like Morrigan.

Yeah its kind of like a younger Morrigan or something- almost more like some of the concept art.

Because she is putting up a front in the whole 'tent' exchange. If you shoot her down, she spills the beans later in a much more honest, heartfelt and damn near nice and complimentary way that kicked the hell out of Leliana's.

Very nice wallpaper. I just changed mine to the Smailika one, but that may go into the queue for later usage :D

The pencil drawing looks to me to be her 8-10 years before Origins. It's nowhere near the most exact of the fanarts we've seen, but something about it...I just like it.

Indeed.

For anyone who wants to see a much more touching and emotional start to a Morrigan romance I recommend the following:

When you first talk to her about life in the Wilds, say "I'm just curious. Where's the harm in that?" instead of the usual "You can probe me anytime".

This should make the 2 of you stay friends until her personal quest.

After you've killed Flemeth and retrived her real grimoire, Morrigan will give you her usual friendship speech, but will admit that she always found you intriguing and will ask you if you'd be willing to be more than just her friend (provided you're not in a romance with anyone else by that point).

This, imo, blows the "Tis cold in my tent" talk out of the water.

Bah.. the "tis cold in my tent" proposition is the lamest way of getting in her tent.

You should wait a bit and let her tell you that she is evil and she needs to be punished.

I can't say I even remember this choice in dialogue. Is it one of those after-tent options, or when she feigns ignorance for why she'd want to go to your tent?

I think you have to be the one asking and not her. If you get the "tis cold in my tent" dialogue you might miss the opportunity to bring it up. If you jump in her tent too early then you will surely miss it, and if you turn her down harshly you will cut off the romance.

Try turning her down gently and then ask her to come to your tent. ;)

Like Baldemaster said, you can get that line by turning her tent proposition down gently.

First say "Morrigan.. I'm not sure of this", followed by "We're not exactly alone". That should net you a whooping -1 aproval loss but the romance will stay active.

Then just discuss something personal with her and ask her to join you in your tent and tell her it's cold in there. Pick any line you want and be ready for some hilarious dialogue.

the whole "tis a curious thing speech"

Morrigan: 'Tis a curious thing. I do not know how else to describe it.

Warden: What? Is something wrong?

Morrigan: No, nothing is wrong. It's a little embarasing to admit, in fact.

Morrigan: I am reminded of our first meeting in the Wilds. I have been in animal form for some time, watching your progress.

Morrigan: I noticed immediately that you are far more formidable than the men you traveled with. I found you intriguing.

Morrigan: Yet, I resented it when Flemeth asigned me to travel with you. I asumed, at best, you would drive me from your comapny as soon as we left the Wilds.

Warden: Why would I do that?

Morrigan: I am aware that I have... little talent at forming friendships. 'Tis something I know nothing of nor even thought I needed. Yet, when you discovered Flemeth's plan you did not abandon me. You fought what must have been a terrible battle without hope of a real reward.

Warden: I did it because I'm your friend.

Morrigan: And that is what I do not understand. I have been with men phisicaly, those who lusted after me and even proffesed love, but friendship with a man? I didn't know it was even possible.

Morrigan: Tell me, could there be anything more... between you and I? Have you ever considered it?

Warden: I have considered it, yes.

Morrigan: And what about now? We could be together, you and I. As more than friends. If you wished it.

Warden: I do. I wish it.

Morrigan: *smiles* As do I.

Romance scene triggers at this point.

Can you avoid taking a Approval hit, politely though? Or if you turn her down is it a major one?

I posted what you need to say in order to turn her down politely a few posts back.

You only suffer -1 approval from it.

I think he meant to ask what happens if you say you don't want to be more than friends. Is that right?

She takes it rather well in this case. She is kind of embarrassed when she realizes you shot her down but she is still glad to be your friend.

That is the sweetest thing. I think it might have changed my perspective on the Morrigan romance. I will have to do this on my next male character... whenever that will be.

It's an unusual circumstance to not romance someone else yet wait on Morrigan until after killing Flemeth. My only pc to get that conversation wasn't interested (he wanted Leliana but had failed to pique her interest). So he said no, there could not be anything more, to which Morrigan replies something like "Ah, I thought as much but I wanted to be sure." No disapproval so I'm not sure how much she really cares. Her main (if not only) motive is still to get the pc receptive to doing the DR.

I just find it odd that most of Morrigan's best romance dialogue is often hidden and seemingly buried in branches that are kind of awkward to get to- like turning down Morrigan initially or having to go to Alistair first in the DR to get any emotion out of her.

Anyway, Gaider posted a bit about Morrigan in this thread: http://social.biowar...index/2832478/1

Oh, that's easier to explain than you'd think.

It's not the looks so much, or even the voice (though both of those things do help, giving her an exotic flavor that many men like a lot). From what I've gathered, the reason many male players fall hard for Morrigan is because she has that hard, hard shell. She pushes the player away and wants nothing to do with love, but when that shell starts to crack he starts to think that maybe he can reach her. Maybe he can save her, bring out that vulnerable side she only rarely shows and which she would never even admit to.

There are certain fantasies that romances cater to, and Morrigan has hers just as Alistair does. It's never going to appeal to everyone, but it certainly doesn't happen by accident.

Agree with his sentiments? Disagree?
He's pretty much right on, I think. I might say that the mysterious nature of MOrrigan is also something that got me interested in her as a character, yet thats also one of the more frustrating aspects of her romance due to the DR...

She does care, but isn't the kind of person who displays her feeling openly.

Her plan is to get pregnant with ANY Grey Warden, not pc or Alistair specificaly, and to do it without any emotional attachement.

The fact she actually falls in love with the Warden isn't something she planned on, but once it happens she does truly care about him.
That is why she preffers her lover to be the father of the child and why she sees the DR as a means by which tosave your life (even if the way it plays out doesn't exactly emphasize this).

As for waiting until her personal quest to start a romance, why would that be strange?
It's exactly what you need to do with Leliana and Alistair, and Zevran makes you wait until the Landsmeet before "officialy" falling in love with you.

Most people would probably bed Alistair and Lelina as early as Lothering given the chance.

Pretty much agree.

The frustrating part, at least for me, is not the lack of a happy ending, but rather the fact that DR (a culmination of a Morrigan romance, where we expect our efforts to be rewarded) comes out the same for everyone. It doesn't matter what your approval with her was by that point or if she loves you or not.
It makes me feel like we were denied the emotional payoff we worked so hard to get, even if that payoff comes in a form of a tragedy.

The other frustrating thing is that we're given the option of searching for her and the child. Hell, Awakening even puts us on that path by default. And yet, there's a good posibility that search will be a lose end that never gets resolved or we may never find out what Morrigan's ultimate plan is.

Greetings Morrigan Thread,
Had a Question that I'm fairly certain I asked before, but as I can't recall the answer nor do I have the time to go through previous posts I'll take the chance of asking once more. I'm going to be starting my Morrigan Romance playthrough (the one I will keep for Awakenings) and I wanted to get *both* of those amazing Morrigan Epilogue Cards, the Ring one and the One picked up at the close of Awakening. I recall somewhat that for the Ring Card you must speak with Morrigan at the Gates of Denerim after everyone is done with thier "This is it, Warden..." speeches. However, I know that will take your Approval rating down (at least on the 360 version) to Friend level even though the Romance is still technically going. I'm just want to know for sure all the steps and varibles. If you guys have the time, thanks. Also, I was curious about the following...

I agree that the mysterious nature is part of her appeal. But if you add too much mystery then it will eventually turn up BS.

Sten was mysterious at first and I ended up liking him just fine for it. I was also intrigued by Nathaniel in the XP. I was suspicious that it was his plan to betray me but he ended up being a friend in the end.

Mystery is fine as long as there is limit. In the case of Morrigan we were playing for 60+ hours and instead of getting answers we got more questions.  The fact that your character got stripped from his personality for the sake of the "mysterious plot hammer of doom" makes it even worse in my eyes. It remains to be seen if there are actually meaningful answers to those questions.

I wouldn't be surprised if they never bother with answers. Because... ya know it's "dark fantasy" and some things must remain secret.

But that's just me.

Yeah, I mean there sort of is some emotional stuff in the DR, but mostly its a cookie cutter, one size fits all scene. Which really sucks for the Warden romancing Morrigan as its basically the climax of the romance and your involvement with Morrigan. I don't think thats a sense of entitlement or anything to expect a unique DR for the romancing Warden- it would be like if Alistair barely acknowledged the female Warden's romance during the Landsmeet or prior to killing the Archdemon.

Its like I've said some times now- if you're going to go through the trouble of getting people emotionally engaged with characters throughout the game, you've got to pull through and give the player some sort of "reward" or "payoff" thats unique in the end game. You skimp on that and it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth and leaved you going " I went through all that, just for this?!"

That's a bingo! What use are the epilogues when they lead you on, baiting plot threads for future stories if they're never followed through? That just provides frustration and sure as hell would ****** me off if the Morrigan/Warden romance and OGB is just ignored or never given resolution in future games. Now to be fair we have no idea what they have in store, so its likely wise to refrain on the indignant nerd rage until we know whats coming next (which hopefully is E3!)

Glenboy, Awakening accepts any kind of save from any point in the game. If you have a save after the landsmeet and before her speech at the gates it can work for you(provided of course her romance is active).

She cares but her offer of more is some mix of caring and manipulation and its hard to say what the proportion is of each.  Though your pc doesn't know it at the time, Morrigan never wavers from her intention to get pregnant and disappear.

I think it's unusual to reach that conversation because it's easy to bed Morrigan earlier if your pc is so inclined and if he isn't, why would he want to later?  Morrigan is not the type to appeal to someone who is seeking a nurturing relationship.

Simply put you can't get both in the vanilla game.

If you're on pc I strongly recommend getting Morrigan restoration patch by Terra_X.
It will not only fix this problem but also restore some cut Morrigan dialogue.

If you're on a console, then it's tough luck. Once you talk to her after the "This is it, Warden..." speech you'll get her ring epilogue, but won't get the epilogue in Awakening since the game won't recognize your romance with Morrigan.

glenboy24 wrote...

If you initially refuse her offer at DR, she'll have you go talk to Alistair.
Instead of going to Alistair's room, talk to Morri again and tell her "I don't want to lose you Morrigan".
