Greetings Morrigan Thread,
Had a Question that I'm fairly certain I asked before, but as I can't recall the answer nor do I have the time to go through previous posts I'll take the chance of asking once more. I'm going to be starting my Morrigan Romance playthrough (the one I will keep for Awakenings) and I wanted to get *both* of those amazing Morrigan Epilogue Cards, the Ring one and the One picked up at the close of Awakening. I recall somewhat that for the Ring Card you must speak with Morrigan at the Gates of Denerim after everyone is done with thier "This is it, Warden..." speeches. However, I know that will take your Approval rating down (at least on the 360 version) to Friend level even though the Romance is still technically going. I'm just want to know for sure all the steps and varibles. If you guys have the time, thanks.

If you're going to do a whole playthrough of Origins from the start and want to get the ring and Awakening epilogues here is probably the easiest thing to do- romance her like normal but  hold on to the Mirror. After the gates of Denerim, talk with Morrigan "about last night," this will give you her ring epilogue. Now once you've finished the game you'll have the post- coronation save where everyone is back at camp. To get Morrigan back to "love" status here, now is when you'll gift Morrigan the mirror and tell her "its a gift for a beautiful woman." That dialogue should get her back to "love" and when imported into Awakening should give you her correct epilogue there.

Brock, what's this *Extra* emotion out of Morrigan if you go to Alistair. How does that work/go down? Again, thanks.

Its the dialogue you get if you tell Morrigan you'll talk to Alistair or Loghain about doing the Ritual and then come back to Morrigan. Its really some of Claudia Black's best VO work, IMO and some of the best dialogue for the Warden romancing Morrigan. Yet for some reason I can't fathom the only way you get it is by turning Morrigan down and saying you'll try to convince someone else to do the DR. Anyway here its is from the toolset, but you really should try to listen to it, its very well done:

Morrigan: Little time remains. I suggest you go to Alistair's room quickly.
PC: Morrigan, I don't want to lose you.
Morrigan: Don't be a fool. I am already lost. (VO note: she says this gently, almost with exasperation-- she loves the player but this is already done)
Morrigan: This must be done. For your sake, as well as my own. I... I told you that this could not be, did I not? (VO note: she falls apart a little--she is in love with the player even though this can never be)
Morrigan: Go. Do what you must. (VO note: her heart is breaking here, and she cuts him off)

She cares but her offer of more is some mix of caring and manipulation and its hard to say what the proportion is of each.  Though your pc doesn't know it at the time, Morrigan never wavers from her intention to get pregnant and disappear.

True, it is hard to say. She obviously has some sort of long term plan that she isnt willing to abandon for anything. She does however admit during her farewell speech that she is quite tempted to remain with the Warden and that she would gladly do so were things different.

DWSmiley wrote...

I think it's unusual to reach that conversation because it's easy to bed Morrigan earlier if your pc is so inclined and if he isn't, why would he want to later?  Morrigan is not the type to appeal to someone who is seeking a nurturing relationship.

Morrigan's romance starts as pure lust and casual sex with no strings attached and later transforms into a true love between her and the Warden.
It is easy to miss her more emotional dialogue if you rush to bed her at first oportunity, which most people seem to do.

The dialogue I wrote earlier if an example of how taking things slowly can actually provide a more satisfying reward.

Thanks a Great Deal, Brock. Some of the last few posts were like, "Sorry Dude, you're SOL cause you're on Xbox," and I was getting worried that they were right. I know about the Lost content, but that's something I can deal with in the Future. For now, I just wanted those Epilogues, so thanks for the info. (Laughs) Gee, got to love these 360 Bugs...

The mirror trick should work, but of course I've only tried once on PC never on 360, but there is no reason that I can think of that it shouldn't work.

Just another reason to get a good gaming PC!:)

Tip: Don't wear massive plate. It looks so much better with light armor. The benefits of being a Rogue... B)

Thank you charsen

Blademaster, glad you liked them so far. can you tell me which kiss leads up to that awful clipping? (what does she say before kissing you?) I'll fix it right away =)

also -- i am going to change my dummies to wear full plate and tweak the kisses. i modeled all of them with light armor dummies as default, but i think i will have to fix that for next update, definitely agree. =)

That is the sweetest thing. I think it might have changed my perspective
on the Morrigan romance. I will have to do this on my next male
character... whenever that will be.

Isn't it?! I don't follow the Mass Effect 2 forums at all, but from my experience I think it parallel's towards the Jack romance in it.

Agree with his sentiments? Disagree?

Oh, he's absolutely right. It's what the frothing-at-the-mouth crowd usually miss is that you get personality A, and if you work at it there's a completely different person hidden underneath that's basically fighting/doubting a lifetime of mind control. The thing that got me in the end was the total regret you can get from her, but the fact that she makes a choice that the Ritual is bigger than either of you and she has to stick to her guns. That's a hell of a hook, leaving you dying for more.

The other frustrating thing is that we're given the option of searching
for her and the child. Hell, Awakening even puts us on that path by
default. And yet, there's a good posibility that search will be a lose
end that never gets resolved or we may never find out what Morrigan's
ultimate plan is.

It's only frustrating if nothing comes out of it, agreed.

Mystery is fine as long as there is limit. In the case of Morrigan
we were playing for 60+ hours and instead of getting answers we got more
questions.

Which once again I am fine with as long as answers come soon, like in DA2. To drop a bomb like that right before Dragon's Age goes all Diablo on us left absolutely no time to get anything to develop out of the decision. Add into the fact we get stonewalled and yeah, cause but no effect quite yet. It works if handled correctly later on, it fails if not. I can't tell you which is the right way or the wrong way to do it because the second game isn't in a vacuum that's God Baby Plus Extras.

I wouldn't be surprised if they never bother with answers. Because... ya
know it's "dark fantasy" and some things must remain secret.

No, answers will come, but it's just a question of to who? The answers will only be a quarter as effective if you give them to my Chevalier or Teventir Archon in DA2 compared to my Magi who was there from the very start. Instead of a resolution or continuation from the first, you just get some background, and that would be a damn shame.

One of the best way's I've explained it to my friend to see my point of view is for her to imagine this: She's playing her game, she picked Alistair, she gets to the Landsmeet, going through the motions, and then BAM. Game automatically spares Loghain, Alistair freaks out and leaves. Epilogue slide hits that he surfaces in another part of the world as a beaten drunk, and at the end of Awakenings you leave to find him.

That's kind of the position Morrigan fans are left in. The complete lack of control or callback to choice is not any niche of fantasy, it's ****ty handling of a good plot point and great characters.

Yeah, I mean there sort of is some emotional stuff in the DR, but
mostly its a cookie cutter, one size fits all scene

Yeah, I don't blame Gaider for that. He said, and showed, that he had much better and emotional options for those that put time and effort in, but it was left on the cutting room floor. Which amazes me that it happened, but I've backed off the 'it's bad writing' and more into the 'what a horrible choice of material to drop' camp.

also -- i am going to change my dummies to wear full plate and tweak the
kisses

Pssh, who cares about plate. As long as the Mage robes work fine you've covered all the important bases.

I used the "kiss her"(Ah such a romantic I see) option. I was under the impression that all the kissing options led to the same cutscene.

I kinda hate how your armor is blocking your view in some cases, but that's a flaw in the game. I usually run around in light armor in camp. :D

thanks! i'll get that patched tonight. =)
Yeah sadly the game is very uncompromising with the heavy plate. But i guess it makes sense. bet she gets pinched by platemail too and that's gotta hurt like a mofo.

Any chance you could take a look at her dialogue at the gates?

With your mod I get the vanilla bug that cuts off her final line if you leave her behind. It was restored with Terra's mod(and ejoslin's but I have both so it doesn't matter).

I don't suppose your mod conflicts with any dialogue mod?

Nope kisses doesn't conflict with anything (unless someone makes a kiss mod that touches those scenes)

Yep i plan to fix her gatekiss scene too. i wanted to get her kisses done then get back to the gatekisses. XD so many kisses... lol.

did you guys know Morrigan has more kisses than everyone else... combined? i was impressed. had no idea.

random side note: jaime murray would be an amazing Morrigan in a movie. (Lila from season 2 Dexter)

Did Terra tell you about the missing kisses as well?

-  when she tries to break up with you
-  if you accept the DR
-  at the gates
-  from her missing cutscense

Whatever number you have, add 4 more kisses :D

Oh I completely agree. Its like any TV show or movie that gets going with mysterious plot threads either to never resolve them or maybe end on a cliffhanger of one season only to start the next season with the cliffhanger already resolved.

Mystery and keeping certain things ambiguous is fine. I wouldn't want things like religion or the Maker totally explained away in Dragon Age- it would be like George Lucas explaining away the Force with stupid little midichlorians. But for Morrigan and the DR and OGB? Maybe you don't explain away all the details but at least give us the chance to know some of what Morrigan knows about everything. When you don't get any answers in the DR, it just screams out "PLOT HAMMER!" to me.

And if we get some meaningful resolution in DA2, thats fine that we didn't get any answers in Origins. But if they just refer to Morrigan and the OGB as a "legend" or "rumors" or some such nonsense, I'll get fed up. You can only go to the "Oooooh! Mysterious ending! Ambiguous mystery!" well so many times and expect people to still give a damn when none of those plot points get resolved in the future.  But I'm more than willing to see how BioWare approaches the DR/OGB and Warden/Morrigan romance going forward, but I'd hate to see great characters/plot threads turned into cheap ways to keep me interested in DA if they're going some completely different direction in DA2.

I just wish that the end game stuff got as much personalization and attention as things like the Origin stories did. I can imagine they might have cut stuff from the ending due to the fact that a good number of gamers never finish games and you're not going to hook new people with content deep into a 80+ hour game, but cuts like the DR just suck. I know there are probably other cuts that had to be made that Gaider and others weren't happy about but at least with the DR, its arguably one of the most pivotal moments in the whole game and it basically plays out the same for everyone, which for a choice driven RPG like Orgins, is not a good thing.

So yeah, give a wag of the finger to whoever chopped down the DR scene.<_<

Yeah she's got the whole dark hair, pale skin thing going on and the British accent. Morrigan isn't quite as psycho as Lila was in Dexter though, haha.

@Brock:  Cut content from the ritual or no, the bottom line is that Morrigan's ending is a one size fits all ending and BS to anyone who romanced her because instead of getting a satisfying ending(not necessarily happy) you end up with a "wtf, that's it?" "where's the rest of it?"

Seeing a different scene for a romancing Warden would've done her departure a bit easier to swallow, I guess, but it still won't change the fact that you have a roleplaying game where your decisions do not matter.

At least they don't matter for now. A canonized Morrigan will make it even worse, but I'm won't hold my breath here and hope for some sort of closure to this story.

It's kind of silly that she has so many kisses, I think. The first time you try to kiss her she seems confused as if she doesn't realize what you are trying to do... After the first one she's all over you... :D

She is weak, inexperienced and she finds us attractive. Ain't that right guys?

Well I think one thing has been made clear today, GreyWardens.com puts up posts about various subjects and is lucky to get a page or two of comments, delves into the romance pool and gets hundreds of them. I think our priorities and wishlist for the next game are clear :D

These have been fantastic. It says something that they usually run 6-7 minutes but just absolutely fly. The scene with the Dwarf where he just basically explodes was amazingly done. Although I have to say when I first say the Dwarf my first reaction was 'Where's his duster brand?!', and then I immediately rationalized it as either being a surface-born generation or an exiled noble. Sigh, dorky dorky.

I hate how they keep pronouncing Amaranthine wrong.

But that's me being nit picky. Otherwise it's perfect. Krystoff exploding was epic intimidation there that makes Renegade shepard pale in comparision.

Nice!

Has the 'You play as Morrigan's Evil God Baby in DA2' notion been discussed much? Knowing the history of the Bioware RPG teams, I would put money on this being the case. =)

It's okay, you'll only find out halfway through the game, it will conveniently explain your sudden transformation in just a few weeks from hapless farmhand to super-sorceror, and you'll get to turn into something weird looking with lots of teeth and tentacles.

This genre has RULES, you know.
