I'd much rather see the data Bioware collected on all our flagged choices in game than forum poll 'data'.

YES- I love me some statistics! Man oh man, I'd totally nerd out with some of that telemetry they're no doubt collecting. Make some fancy graphs and spreadsheets- woohoo!
I'd be curious to know how BioWare is using that sort of telemetry data on how people are playing the game and the kind of choices they're making. I wonder if they really key in to that data when making decisions on certain aspects of their future DA games or not. Would be very very interesting stuff, no doubt.

Indeed. We would just be recycling all the other topics until we get new info. <_<

Are you sure about that? Hahahaha. I have a feeling you won't be saying that once we get to Chapter 3. Oh crap. I hope I'm not saying too much. Hahaha.

As long as Morri and the kid live through it I'm fine. Edric doesn't strike me as a person who'd save his own life at the expense of his family. My Warden is pretty much the same way.
I had my share of tragic romances (I'm looking at you Viconia D'Vir!) before and can generally take it as long as there is closure in the end.
But yeah, I'll wait and see what happens. Just please, be gentle with those poor lovers. They already went through hell (at least Edric did..).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Viconia- Sure she doesn't die within the game, but come epilogue time, No happy ending for you! Whoops, poisoned and dead.
Aribeth- Well in NWN1 she basically turns "evil" and then comes back in Hordes of the Underdark as a spirit. So much for that....
Bastila- Hmmm... I know Gaider wrote for KOTOR, but I'm not actually sure if he wrote Bastila. Anyway, Bastila's romance could end badly, but at least if you keep things focused on KOTOR1, it ends rather well depending on your actions. So you basically have the ability to dictate a good or bad ending to the romance here.
Maric and Katriel- Yeah, Maric falls for the spy and kills her, the woman he thought he loved. Happy ending!
Loghain and Rowan- Loghain and Rowan get close to each other only for Maric to kill Katriel and have Loghain give Rowan back to Maric for the sake of Ferelden.
Maric and Rowan- Hey! a happy en- nope. Maric marries Rowan, has a kid (Cailan) defeats the Orlesians, all is well in the world, right? Nope, Rowan dies after a long illness leaving Maric a very sad panda.
Maric and Fiona- Your typical adversarial relationship where Fiona is all business but after they save each others' lives a couple times, Maric trudges through her Deep Roads. And what do you know, Fiona comes knocking a while later with a kid! But alas, Fiona and Maric can never be together, what with Maric being king and Fiona being an elf and Grey Warden. So Duncan pulls the ol' Obi Wan Kenobi and takes the child and vows to look after Alista- errr, the "child" and the "child" never knows his real parents.
Morrigan- Yeah, I think if you're in this thread you know how this one goes down.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
So is Morrigan's romance doomed to tragedy, wailing and gnashing of teeth? Will all of us Morrigan romancers incur the wrath of the Plot Hammer of Doom? Is Morrigan's romance done, never to be touched on again? Or will Gaider give us a rare "happy" ending where all is not death, doom and gloom? These questions must remain a mystery.... for now.

As for happy/gloomy endings, I really want to see a Dragon Age-style ending to this old-god-child story. Which means choice between bad ending for Morrigan and child for the greater good or good ending for them which comes at a price of thousands people, eaten alive...
This I would approve. Especially option 2. I approve a good bloodbath.

Also on the polls I am running Morrigan is winning for the first love interset, but Leliana is currently winning on the favourite side, Interesting flip there, I thought it would be the other way around since the trips for Morrigans romance or slightly harder to see than Leliana's. Also Morrigan's romance is much more tied into the main arc than Leliana's is.

So, I was thinking (dangerous as that may be)- Is it just me or do most of the romances Gaider writes end in tragedy or death? I'm not advocating puppies and sunshine, but is it just me or are all of these romances kind of downers?

Here's my take on the romances you listed:
Viconia - probably the closest of all to Morrigan romance. In fact her ending in BG2: SoA was exactly the same as Morrigan's ending after DR (minus the OGB). I actually loved Viconia's romance. Tragedy to be sure, but at least the ending gave you that much needed closure.
Aribeth - the most frustrating of all. You spend the whole game helping her get over her lost lover, keep believing in her even after she turns evil, save her and then ask Lord Nasher to spare her life as a boon to you. Ofc, right after the game ends he decides to have her hanged anyway. Epic fail.
Bastila - not sure if Gaider wrote that one, but if so it has to be the only happy romance with a female npcs he ever did. Basically, you get the girl to fall in love with you, then she falls to the dark side and you rescue her. Then you both get married and have kid(s) until your character disappears into the unknown chasing after some threat and is never seen again. That last bit is like WardexMorrigan except it's the Warden who goes off without really explaining why.
Haven't read any of Gaider's novels so I'll refrain from commenting on romances in them.
But yes, it seems like he's a fan of tragic love stories, but funny enough it's always the male gamers who get the short end of the stick.
In light of his previous romances I'd be happy if for once he gave us a shot at a happy ending, even if we have to go through hell and back to get it.
Not holding my breath though. Morrigan's story is probably going to end tragically without the Warden even being there to do something about it.
Not that Gaider is going to give a damn anyway.

I feel so bad for Maric in the novels- the man sure gets around, but its like every lover he has dies or can never be with him. And then of course he meets fate by being "lost at sea." *sigh* Might as well have mysteriously vanished...

Yeah thats something I noticed too- I never play as a female too much , but I believe Gaider wrote Anomen in BG2, Valen in NWN, and obviously Alistair and Zevran. Correct me if I'm wrong, but basically all of those romances can end fairly well given the right choices and none are destined by the Plot Hammer of Doom to end in tragedy, right?

Exactly- I'd just like a chance or the opportunity to have a "happy" ending. Even if its hard to do, not having things be all pre-determined to end in tragedy would be nice. Or at least if the tragedy is some predetermined certainty, at least don't skimp on the cutscenes and such like the DR. Give us some unique dialogue or unique scenes for the romancing Warden.

Awww, but it would be so satisfying to condemn a whole nation to save OGB and Morrigan. Just saying. It's like with werewolves. You wanna keep the puppies, you gonna gut the elves.
Sadly if it came down to either an entire nation or Morrigan and the OGB, then I would chose the nation over them. I redid my Mage who romanced her from the Landsmeet on, with me Killing Loghain, Alistair marrying Anora and Morrigan and my Mage parting at love with my baby. Just on the off chance of seeing a happy ending, however if I have to I wont risk peoples lives over Morrigan and the OGB.
Also I forgot how much fun hexes are on one mage, and primal is on another when both running toghther.

Well, Redeemer and Warden Commander endings give you exactly that. A cheap way of having your cake and eating it at the same time. If you romance Zevran or Leliana you can refuse Morrigan's ritual and suffer no consequences as long as you sacrifice Loghain or Alistair.
You win and suffer no loss.
Personally, it makes anyone who romanced Alistair or Morrigan feel like they've been played for a sucker. They need to make a hard choice in order to have a "happy" ending while others can avoid that problem entirely.
With UC and DR you will lose something. The question is whether that something is your life or your lover/friend.
