Why so many people think this is the best thing for the series is beyond me, wouldn't it be nice to have actual character development instead of endless exposition? To see characters grow as individuals instead of just slowly unloading their life story on you and then stop talking for the rest of the game. What does putting the game years in to the future really add the the experience of the player? I know it's the easiest way to ditch The Warden and not have to bother fulfilling the whole "Your choices matter" thing.

Yeah, I touched on this a few pages back. It honestly feels to me that people just want a new RPG from Bioware, they don't care if it's Dragon Age or not.

I was half expecting a puzzle
in the Gauntlet where we'd have to spell out the name of the Maker or
something on floor tiles... hehe

That's funny because I'm replaying Baldur's Gate II right now, and I just hit the Shade Lord area in Umar Hills. I forgot all about the puzzles in there until I was face-first into them, but spelling out the God of Lights name on tiles totally made me smile.

Once you have a full group of companions most of the battles become a
joke.

Awakening specializations really were ill concieved. I love the idea of a Battlemage, but who in their right mind thinks it's a good idea to make it so you have to kill a Mage at ranged? Taking away the threat of anything touching me, my guy was like Zeus coming down the mountain wrecking anything in his path. No strats at all, just mob 'em and move on.

I think they're aware of the problem with high level abilities and
specializations, and are going to tweak them for DA2.

Personally I'd like to see them limit you to one specialization and just make the trees deeper. Instead of four talents per spec, give them eight or twelve.

The linked conversation to the announcement. He talks about how cool it is to be able to flesh out some unnamed characters from Origins, and also to be able to subtly introduce some new ones you will see down the road.

Well, the problem is that after a couple of centuries not only would everyone from DA:O be long dead (that includes Morrigan) but your choices from Origins wouldn't matter, since things would have changed so much that Ferelden would seem like a different country. Also, it wouldn't be Dragon Age anymore either.

Alright, yeah that wouldn't make sense when you put it like that. I forgot about that detail. So not a matter of centuries. They would still have plenty of room for years between games, though.

Now, about the "Warden's story is over". I never saw or heard anyone from Bioware say that. In fact the biggest problem right now is that we have no idea in which direction they plan to go in DA2. David Gaider said they could do anything from having us play as the Warden again, make some events from Origins canon or simply make a game that has nothing to do with Origins at all. Also, the way Awakening ended they didn't wrap up the Warden's story but rather had him leave Ferelden and the Grey Wardens there. That means they're pretty much free to use him again should they desire to do so, but his story didn't get closure.

I'm unaware of this referenced statement by David Gaider. But it seemed that the text at the end of Dragon Age seemed to reference the end to the Warden's story. And Bioware wouldn't exactly be strangers to leaving characters without closure.

We do know that Fernando Melo (lead developher for Awakening) said that we're bound to see Morrigan again. We also know from the Q&A with developer of Leliana's Song that this DLC will feature some of our future companions from DA2. This means the next game will be set in the same time period as Origins and Awakening and possibly not long after the events in those games.

More information of which I was not aware. This intrigues me, however. I just may be getting this DLC.

They'll most likely allow enough time to pass between Origins and DA2 to be able to represent Morrigan's child with a normal child model (like Connor has) or to make him/her a young adult (if he/she is supposed to be a companion).

This is all the information we posses atm. Right now Bioware can do anything. We'll have to wait and see what they have in store for us in the future.

Thanks for the information, I appriciate you taking the time to respond with such depth.

And one more thing; is Morrigan fan art allowed to be posted here? I'm assuming no, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I don't see why it wouldn't be.

(I know, it's because this is one of the few companion threads that haven't turned into gush threads ;))

Oh it's perfectly fine. Some of the members post one once new art pops up now and then. But then, I think the members have already posted what is around. Hahaha.

Aha! Found it. Thank you.

IGN: Are there many side quests and opportunities to explore in this piece of content [Leliana's Song DLC] or is it more of an adventure focused around a single plotline?

Lukas Kristjanson:
Leliana's Song opens with some exploration that shows a known location in a new light, but overall it is a focused and fast-paced adventure, and the main plot quickly draws you forward. But seasoned Dragon Age players will still have plenty to sink their teeth into. There is a lot of history in the setting, and I've included teasers for the early lives of several Origins characters, and some groundwork for others you may meet in future.
http://pc.ign.com/ar.../1101599p1.html

They could mean DA2 or they could just mean future DLC. Either would be fine by me.

edit: Or, at least, I think this is the quote you mentioned. There's nothing here about the "early lives" being those of any companions, that's true, but there's nothing to imply that the "others you may meet in the future" are future companions, either.

We like fan art. We just don't want to be a spam thread where it's just pictures and drivel. I've tried my best to turn this into Swoo's Conspiracy Theory Corner, but they've resisted me so far. So by all means, post away. ;)

BTW, if we're going to have the Morrigan romance be a potential factor in the future, how's that going to work mechanically? If it's set on your relation level at the end of Origins, you're going to be at Friendly if you had the post city gate goodbye convo (which essentially would put you at the same level as someone who never romanced her to begin with). If you leave her at the gates or never have the post gate convo, you're still going to be at Love. Just pointing that out.

The way it works atm is that you shouldn't talk to her after the farewell speech with your companions. That way your approval will stay flagged as "love" and you'll get a proper epilogue in Awakening. Sadly, this bug doesn't appear to be important enough to fix. My guess is that it'll be up to the players themselves to make sure they have proper approval before importing their Warden.

If you're referring to Terra's mod, then yes, that does fix up the friend/love issue...

Just checking in fellas. Been away for awhile.

Still playing Oblivion and getting way too sidetracked in the nearly endless dungeons and tombs; but am enjoying it to no end...oh and I completed "Overlord" and found it way too short, but did happen to run into the Hero of River Dane again...well you know what I mean. ;)

I just ran into Morrigan in space (see Admiral Xen) it was awsome:

Tali:Xen

Xen: Tali

ME: hey wait a second you sound familiar?... oh god no! AAAAAIIIEEEEE!

Tali:Shepard get back here!

Maybe taking the old god child made Morrigan go into another dimension.

Also, jumping forward a few centuries wouldn't make any sense.

From my experience such a thing is generaly done if the setting is so well documented and thoroughly explored that writers find it difficult to make new stories.

This is my exact thinking whenever someone brings up jumping way ahead in time. Why would BioWare do that when we've only just started exploring the world of DA? Originsreally only gave us a rough overview of Thedas and even then, just really Ferelden's view of things. If the lore and main events of DA werealready well established  like is the case for alot of D&D or Star Wars, then jumping around in the timeline makes sense to make room for new stories. Yet at this point everything is still a new story with DA.

WhatI'd really prefer would be that maybe they the Warden stick around for another game and some expansions then skip ahead some more time once theWarden has some closure. I just worry they'lldo something crazy like jump around thinking its all clever. Or they'llgo the Fable route where the time jumps ahead game to game so that a bunch has changed and you're playing as the kid of the original character or something.

I've said it before but I'll say it again- my ideal DA2 would start with new "Origin stories" that would be based on your ending to Origins/Awakening. Have maybe 6 or so- basically one for each LI then one for a new character. Then just have them all boil down to one common point  like Ostagar in Origins and go from there. Really the only major decisions as I see them from Origins are the ruler of Ferelden and the DR. Everything else can be glossed over, especially if its set in Orlais or some other place.

Coupleother random thoughts:

Thoughts on the Leliana DLC? Who plans on getting it? I'm kind of torn, I'll likely wait a bit to see what other think of it first. I'm mainly disappointed that patch 1.04 won't be ready before the DLC comes out which means I'd have to put 1.03 back on my PC. And that would equal crashes galore in Origins. I'll probably get it Tuesday though anyway- I really want to see some of the lore tidbits they've supposedly got in it.

When will we get DA2 news!? Its now officially July and BioWare has about 7 months until the 2/1/2011 date. I'm hard pressed to think of a major game release in recent history from a major publisher like EA thatdidn't have at least a 6 month marketing campaign.  So either the 2/1/2011 game will get a really short marketing campaign, or the 2/1/2011 thing isn't a game at all (another "epic" announcement...) or whatever the 2/1/2011 thing will be delayed.

Anyway, here are some events/things I'm keeping an eye out for in the hope for DA2 news. Of course maybe BioWare will just announce it on its own some time but whatever:
  • The Leliana DLC- maybe, just maybe they'll tease the 2/1/2011 thing in the Leliana DLC somehow? Its a reach but nobody saw the 2/1/2011 card in Awakening coming either.
  • Game Informer? Game Informer almost always has big reveals as their covers. Last month (their July issue) they had Infamous 2 revealed, with GoW3, Bulletstorm, Dead Space 2 before that and more. Could DA2 be revealed on their next cover? In this story where EA said ME3 & DA2 wouldn't be at E3, the editor in chief Andy McNamara commented (cryptically?) "We should put these games on our cover or something." GI gets alot of inside info and early looks on games, so combine that with some of the stuff McNamara said on this episode of the Bonus Round on GTTV (about the 42:50 mark) how many games coming out January through April next year wouldn't be showcased at E3 but rather get reveals later at events like Gamescom. My point is, the new Game Informer cover for their August issue will likely be revealed sometime this week (they usually do it the first week of the month or so.)
  • EA's next quarterly financial report- I'm not 100% sure when they'll be reporting their results for Q1 2011, but I think its not until early August. If we haven't heard anything by then, I'd just be looking to see if the "Dragon Age Title TBA" hasn't been delayed at all or moved off from it's Q4 2011 window.
  • Gamescom- August 18-22nd. Its really the biggest video game convention in the world and EA usually shows up there. Like I mentioned above, it seems people like Game Informer's Andy McNamara, who has inside info, thinks more games shceduled for early 2011 releases will get their time to shine there.
So yeah, if we don't have any info or hints from BioWare by the end of August, thats only about 5 months then until February 2011. That would be one crazy short marketing campaign if the 2/1/2011 title is to be DA2. On the other hand if its an expansion, then it might make more sense marketing wise. But would BIoWare expect decent sales from an expack that comes out so late after Origins? Unless maybe its a standalone ex-pack or a spin off game? Who knows... All I know is that if Gamescom comes and goes and we haven't heard any DA2 news or anything about what 2/1/2011 means, I give up.

Argh- edited for readability.

And here is another Morri pic I posted a while back, but dammit its awesome!

As much as I hate to say it, I will probably kill Xen :(

I can't let the Quarrians become too strong, it goes against my human hegemonic plans.

@ Morrigan art posted in this page.

Has a woman ever been so badass and dark, and yet so cute at the same time? No? I thought not.

If we play the OGB, I'll be curious to see what (if any) slider options we'll be given. I'm not entirely sure that we should be given a blank slate, considering that we have a defined mother and a defined father (whatever that father may look like). Then again, we probably will. Heck, a HN Warden may look nothing like Bryce, Fergus, or Eleanor Cousland, DC may look nothing like Kalah or Rica Brosca, DN may look nothing like Endrin, Trian, or Bhelen Aeducan, etc...

Heh.. yeah if they went the "PC as OGB" route (which I'm not a fan of) it would be neat if they blended the features of the father and Morrigan. That won't happen though.

And like you mentioned, your Warden in Origins could be a dark skinned elderly looking dude but still have the Couslands as your family. I don't think BioWare is too concerned about familial resemblance:wizard:

This is one thing I would like to see in the future. Your relatives having resemblances with your PC

Bethseda did it in Fallout 3.

PS: I wouldn't mind if the OGB has Morrigan's yellow eyes...

I'd like to know which face would align to what origin, then (not trying to be mean, just curious). As for what the PC should look like, you more or less have to use those family members as a point of reference. I think the only Warden who has the most freedom in appearance would be the mage. Storywise, you're young and attractive, and I would imagine that the OGB would be attractive as well, considering it carries the spirit of the Teviner God of beauty...
