You know, I just thought about something, would the DR discussion where Morrigan sits on the bed have been more... connected, emotional, personal (can't find the right word) had the Warden (if romanced) plopped right to her? I just thought that felt a bit awkward having him just stand there. No romance, it's alright, but with romance there was just something lacking IMO.
The DR talk/scene is a one-size-fits-all-wardens scene. >_> Sadly. Maybe someone could tweak it for those who romanced Morri.

Bioware brought their A-game with LS, so I'm sure whatever they have planned for Morrigan is going to be absolutely epic!

Value! Of all of the DA DLC’s (outside of Shale)this one is worth the money. It took me about 2 hours exactly to finisheverything albeit that’s with me going slowly and methodically to try and get everything (reading codex entries and what not). Definitely worth the $7 if you want more DA.
-
Quality! Unlike most of the other DLC’s, this one seemed to actually maintain the production values of Origins. The VO was solid for the most part and it never felt like it was made on the cheap or that it was rushed out the door.
-
Stable! I loathe patch 1.03 as does my PC. Yet, no technical problems at all with the DLC.
-
Decent challenge! After breezing through Awakening, its nice to have a decent challenge in the combat.
-
Nice shout out to everyone’s most despised rapist of elves, Vaughan- Tug: “That boy will grow into something special.”Hehehe
-
Leliana and the Room of Dead Nugs- nice touch,BioWare.
-
Ok, 2 Headed Skeleton Baby? Seriously? Whats the deal BioWare? In Awakening you see a 2 headed skeleton Baby thing in the Architect’s little dungeon. All right that makes sense since the Architect is a freak and might collect weird stuff. But why was there another 2 headed baby skeleton in Raleigh’s dungeon?
-
Leliana was murder knifed but didn’t bleed out?
-
Personal gripe to BioWare and all RPG developers- If you make it a point where the PC gets stripped of their gear and has to recover it, when the PC gets their gear back, don’t make us have to manually re-equip every item. Its annoying. Just have it magically appear on the characters how it was before the gear was stolen. Thanks
-
BioWare gets a ton of mileage out of those same couple of hanged people. But damn are the textures nasty on those guys!
-
City Elf mother makes a cameo.
-
My only gripe with the VO was with Chantry sister Dorothea. The VO itself was fine but they just reused Marjolaine’s voice actor and Dorothea pretty much sounds exactly like Marjolaine. Like exactly the same. It makes her initial appearance a tad confusing.
-
New Music! I like new music, its definitely a plus but meh. Its your typical stringy bard sort of music you’d think of really. The new music is fine but nothing too special. Maybe its just my taste, but for the most part Dragon Age’s music doesn’t cut it for me. I like Inon Zur’swork but DA’s music just gets so repetitive and generic. It has its moments but the tracks are too short most of the time so they just end up looping way too much. Which is a shame because great music can do so much to enhance a game. Take ME2- the music in the suicide mission adds so much tension and awesomeness to that mission. Mass Effect’s music feels unique and awesome- the new music in Overlord is fantastic. DA and the Leliana DLC? Not so much.
-
The Plot and Prequelitis- I knew going in that this was going to be a retelling of Leliana’s story of her falling out with Marjolaine. Changes are definitely made to it compared to Origins' version. Like it not taking place in Orlais. Meh- if you just roll with the fact that the whole thing is supposed to be a story being told by Leliana, it works well enough. It throws some twists in with some of the new characters but since it’s a story we already know the ending to, there isn’t much tension at the end. And the whole thing with the Orlesian military documents was kind of meh. Nothing we didn’t really already know more or less. It
-
Interesting lore tidbit with Tug’s weapon- when you recover Tug’s weapon in the dungeon and examine it, it says there is an inscription on it uncovered after the handle was taken off which reads “ The Stone Lives Beneath Orlais.” Hmmm… maybe a forgotten Dwarven city under Orlais?
-
The character intros!? Whaaaaaat!? These got a chuckle out of me- hey it’s a new charact- BAAAAM! BLOODY SCREEN! These little moments reminded me of “Inglorious Basterds” when they introduce Hugo Stiglitz witha freeze frame, huge guitar riff and plaster his name on the screen. I’m all for stylized stuff but it seemed kind of goofy in the DLC.
-
Lore? Meh, you’ve got a decent number of codex entries to find but there isn’t anything too revealing in them. I was expecting some more substantial stuff or new insights but nothing much there. I suppose some characters and lore tidbits might make more sense down the road, but I was hoping for MOAR!, what can I say...
-
Same old, same old- Same old Denerim market place, same old levels. Nothing new or exciting level wise. Its all places you’ve been before.
-
Leliana and lighting- I don’t care for the lighting in DA. Honestly I think its often terrible. Damn, Leliana looks great some times in full light, but like with so many other characters, when the lighting changes and they try to have shadowing on the faces- look out! They look hideous. Blobbyshadows and clunky lighting do not make characters look good in DA. I really hope they work on this for DA2…
-
I am so sick of the armor in DA. Its so frustrating to read the description of a given armor and read how unique and amazing it is, only to equip it on your character and have it look like everyother armor out there. The Battledress of the Provocateur is the last straw. I really don’t care about the loot necessarily, but come on BioWare. This thing looks exactly like every other light armor in the game except its slightly recolored. If I wanted reconfigured stats I could easily download a mod. Again, I really hope they diversify things with the armor for DA2….
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
Overall, if I fixed a numerical score to the DLC, I’d give it an 8/10. Its solid and has the same quality and craftsmanship you find in Origins. After the resoundingly “meh” Awakening, the joke Feastday DLC and “WTF?” Darkspawn Chronicles, this DLC gives me hope that the DA team hasn’t completely gone insane. It’s a good
solid DLC worth your $7 if you’re looking for new DA content. That said, it kind of leaves me feeling empty.
I’m not a fan of DLC in general really and this didn’t help change my stance. It’s a solid story based DLC, no doubt and easily the best DA DLC to date. But I play BioWare games for the story. I want a DLC that does something to move the story forward or at least drops significant amounts of new lore that sheds light on new things we haven’t seen or heard about before. Leliana’s story is one we’ve known about already. Sure she tweaked some details but its like the Star Wars prequels- you know Anakin turns into Vader already. I’m ready for DA2 by now- if more DLC is going to come out, no more back stories, no more stand alone bard tales, I want something that legitimately moves the overall DA story forward, something that is actually new and not just a fancy retread of stuff we’ve already covered. The Leliana DLC is a good start in making quality story based DLC, lets just do something next time that we haven’t done before or heard about already.
And the other part is that when I play BioWare games, I’m in it for the epic experience. With a standalone DLC like Leliana’s Song or Darkspawn Chronicles, its just not that satisfying to play in 2 hours or so and that’s it. Sure you can go through again, but with the standalone content it should leave you wanting more. With Leliana’s song, its just backstory so at the conclusion I was just kind of like “Oh, ok, so that’s how Leliana ended up at the Chantry.” Its fun and good for the 2 hours you’re playing it, but I was just left with a sense of “that’s it?” Even extra quests like RtO or Overlord for ME2- they’re only really meaningful when you play them in the context of a full playthrough of the game.
So basically what I’m saying is this: BioWare is known for amazing story heavy, choice driven games. Its tough to do that in small DLC. Instead of more standalone backstory, prequel DLC or alternate universe mumbo jumbo
or dinky quests that plug into the main campaign, make some episodic stuff that moves the story forward and leaves the player wanting more. ME2 will supposedly have DLC that ties into ME3. Some episodic stuff or just DLC somehow linked together on a common theme or character or region would be more interesting to me than the random mish mash of stuff we’ve seen so far.

I personally really liked the DLC, Lel's my favorite companion as of a few days ago (still love Morri too though, no worries) and I really liked how we got to find out more about her. Ya Bioware ****ed up on the details, but I can forgive them. Agreed on the armour rant, that's just pathetic. My main fear is if everyone starts raving about the ME dialouge system and how great it was. Bioware might get the idea that people want to see this in the sequal and before you know it we have a ME: Mideval Edition. They have to realize that Lel is a fully fleshed out character where as the Warden isn't, it just wouldn't work. I'm also afraid of the possibility that Lel might not be in DA2 because according to a post I read not too long ago, Corinne Kempa's Twitter claimed that she was no longer needed by Bioware. That could mean anything of course, and I get that characters come and go in Bioware games, but the promise of adventuring with her after Origins and that promise kind of being hinted to in Awakening are just too good for me to just brush aside and say, "oh well, forge about it."
Yeah I enjoyed the DLC for what it was but I just really hope BioWare can kick it up a notch for future stuff. This sort of thing is ok, but dammit there is so much cool stuff you could do with actual episodic content. Just seems like a missed opportunity to me. But Leliana's Song is definitely a step in the right direction.
As for the dialogue system in Leliana's song- it didn't bother me as its like ME except without the wheel. It worked well enough but ultimately I never felt like the dialogue really mattered much. The choices you make all pretty much lead to the same point and only at the end is there one that slightly changes events. Having Leliana as the PC helped in the cutscenes but they need to keep the Origins system and not latch on to ME like everything else seemingly is.

It fits that a bard would change the details to make the story sound better and also keep a few juicy details to herself.
I think this is what I love the most about Leliana being a bard. She can be warm and freindly, reveal the details of her life and always be there to support you. But, at the same time, you need to keep in mind that she is an expert storyteller and a spy who will never reveal everything and will change a few details to make it sound better. This, like Morrigan, gives her an air of mystery, because even when she comes clean with you there is still this thought that she didn't reveal everything or that things may have happened a bit differently. And just when you start having doubts she'll throw you a warm smile and few friendly words and you'll forget all about your worries.
Definitely a bard who knows her trade.
Here's a question to all us Morri fans:
We know that future DLC will also deal with our Origins companions. What do you think Morrigan's DLC would be about? Her growing up in the Wilds? Her journey to Orlais after the events of Origins? Some hint about her plan for OGB or maybe even setting the groundwork for DA2?

Hehe, I was going for the whole "Morri's dark knight" vibe and thought "I need a truly epic looking evil sword for him". Well, nothing beats Frostmourne in the looks department. Once I saw that bad boy on the DA Nexus I simply had to grab him.

I think she has the most
story potential after the events of Origins. If that were the case, they
should let us import our Morrigans for continuity purposes. It would
have to take place either immediately after Origins or after the birth
of the OGB unless you wanna' play with a new
body morph.
I dunno if there would really be much material
for growing up in the Wilds - IIRC, they were left alone for the most
part with the exception of the occasional templar or two randomly
passing by. It could develop the relationship between Morrigan and
Flemeth, however.

Meh- It doesn't bother me too much that they changed the details as the main thrust of the story is still there. But the story justification of setting it in Ferelden instead of Orlais is weak. Clearly setting the DLC in Ferelden wasn't because Leliana wanted to spice it up as a bard- its more like the devs didn't want to throw art assets at a DLC in Orlais because Orlais will probably gets its big reveal in DA2.
But another thing- in Leliana's version in Origins the whole idea was that she was fleeing Orlais and the game and coming to Ferelden to start anew in Lothering. Hmmmm... yetshe thinks she'll be safe in Ferelden after mucking around there already with Marjolaine? Shouldn't she have went somewhere besides Ferelden or Orlais like the Free Marches or Antiva or someplace farther away?
As for the whole "its a retelling of her story so that excuses inconsistencies"- fair enough. It works for Leliana as she is a bard. But putting my cynic hat on, I won't be surprised when they release "Leliana's Song 2: Version 2.0" with Leliana telling another version.

I honestly hope Morrigan doesn't get a DLC. At least not one where we play as Morrigan. I liked Leliana's Song but the whole 2 hour standalone DLC thing doesn't cut it for me. Its like paying for a single quest in Origins. For instance, I really liked the Sacred Ashes quest but if it was ripped out of the context of the whole game and sold for $7, I can guarantee that I'd judge it more critically and probably not have enjoyed it as much.
BioWare games like Origins are very much the case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. The individual quests and characters are nice but its when they're all tied together that they become truly great and memorable. My issue with the DLC is that its just like a single quest- it might be really good, but its like trying to pass off an appetizer as the main course.
What I'd love to see out of future DLC is stuff that actually links together or is greater than the sum of its parts. If you actually advance the story forward thats one way to keep it fresh. Or have something totally new and not just recycled backstory. Have multiple DLCs that tell a story across multiple episodes. Just something that introduces new stuff and doesn't feel like "been there, done that."
As for Morrigan specifically though, I think they're saving her for DA2 but a DLC that has the PC run into clues or rumors about her would be neat. Nothing huge, just little hints. I honestly don't think I'd care much for a "Play as Morrigan as a kid growing up with Flemeth DLC." It would have the same problem the Leliana one has, which is there isn't any tension as you know the outcome before you've even started.

Play as Morrigan as a kid growing up with Flemeth DLC!
Features:
- get a chance to steal that golden mirror!
- lure foolish templars into the wilds!
- watch your mother fornicate with Chasind men and later kill them!
- play tea with the animals!
- wade through the Korcari swamps!
/sarcasm
One thing I would like to know pre-Origins would be Morrigan's initial reaction regarding Flemeth's ultimate plan regarding the OGB. But that could be done with a cutscene. XD

Yeah- they could throw hints in as to Morrigan related stuff in DLC but I doubt we'll get a full blown Morrigan-centric one. In Awakening I was really hoping to have some hint of her- maybe just a random villager claiming to have seen a Chasind looking pregnant dark haired woman heading west or something little like that. Just something to let us know that BioWare hasn't forgotten about her.

That said it wouldn't have us play as Morrigan herself, but could let us be a character that gets tied into her story in some way. Doesn't have to be anyone important and he could even die by the end if needed. The purpose would be to either shed some more light on what Morrigan has been doing while we were busy in Amaranthine and to maybe give some hint of what we could expect in the future.

Hehehe- The Gamespot DA2 page has been up for a while. I think since around the time the Awakening 2/1/2011 card was revealed. And after Gamespot botched the supposed announcement of DA2 and ME3 being at E3, I'm not putting much faith in them. We shall see...
The twitter on the other hand.... *sigh* I really shouldn't get too excited. The 2 could mean ME2 or DA2. Or hell, maybe Jade Empire 2. Or the BioWare Bazzar 2: Bazzar Harder. Although if I recall, in the IGN interview about Leliana's Song, when talking about the other kind of DLC they were working on, Luke Kristanjson mentioned how "I'm confident you;ll hear about another of those soon..." So maybe its more DLC that ties into DA2? No clue.
But Game Informer should be revealing their cover for their August issue some time this week. I would not be surprised if its DA2. *crosses fingers*
But after the Bazzar brouhaha and countdown promising epic things, my expectations are ZERO. Prove me wrong BioWare...

There is nothing worse than a brouhaha. Bazzar is my real hope killer here, I mean it could just be Bazzar 2.0 this time only half the community is excluded instead of most of it.
The Gameinformer stuff is likely, announce a sequel and say "The details are in this month's issue of Gameinformer!" isn't an uncommon strategy since both parties get something out of it. Then again that all depends on there actually being a sequel to announce, so the end result is much like E3 just gotta wait and see.

I once thought that gamespot was credible. I don't trust them anymore...adneate wrote...
I can't think of a better thread to post unsubstantiated rumours but according to the BioWare twitter "2morrow" is supposed to be a great day for Bioware fans in addition Gamespot has prepared a release page for Dragon Age 2 a PC game to be released Feb 01, 2011 in the US.

As for the tweeter thing... I don't know. Seems like another bazzar event. Speaking of the bazzar, I still can't believe they were hyping it for a whole week.
They know how to set you up for disappointment, don't they?
