Maybe we've been thinking of time in the wrong direction we're going forward in time when we should be going backward in time. Prehaps that Morrigany looking shapeshifter is Flemeth of Highever.

My only problem with that idea is this: game info says DA2 will span over a course of 10 years and will change the world. If that is true then such an event would have been recorded by the Chantry historians or at least kept alive as a legend. Which means we would have heard about it somewhere in Origins.

Prehaps it is a time before the Chantry, back when the Tevinter Imperium ruled Thedas and Hawke is living during the First Blight, that world changing event is maybe helping lead the fight against the Darkspawn thus changing the world by stopping it's destruction?

Honestly taking out both Morrigan and the OGB leaves us with nothing to go on anymore so the only thing we do have is wild and baseless speculation.

My pleasure. XD

And I agree with MK, the baseless speculation didn't really stop... but there is definitely some crying in between. XD

As for the mage, I'm leaning on it being Morri. But then Priestly said that we will be shocked about who it is! post found here

Well based on that  I won't be surprised if that woman is Flemeth. As far as I know Flemeth isn't really dead and she has a certain history with her daughters. What about this one in the Free Marches was one of them possesed by Flemeth? That could explain the dragon-like shapeshifting as well.

Here is a interesting party banter on the subject:

Zevran: So if the legend of your mother is true,
Morrigan, does that mean that the legends of her many daughters are as
well?

Morrigan
: To be honest, I have no idea. I've never met
any sister of mine, nor has my mother spoken of any.

Zevran
: But it could be true, yes? If you exist, there
could have been others like you.

Morrigan
: Long ago, perhaps. Why?

Zevran
: We have legends of witches in Antiva. one that
tells of a Witch of the Wild, traveled far from her home to settle in
the Tellari Swamps.

Morrigan
: And? You thought I might know this woman?

Zevran
: If one legend can be true, why not another? Who
knows how many Morrigans are scattered about Thedas, hmm?

Morrigan
: It's not something I'd like to contemplate.

Zevran
: Oh? You do not appreciate a little competition
from a half-sister or two?

Morrigan
: Silence, elf. It is none of your concern.

They took out the possibility of Hawke being the OGB.

They never said Morrigan isn't in the game or that DR never happened.

Sure, the white haired woman could be someone other than Morrigan. DA2 could be taking place in the past rather then the future.

Right now, we can't tell for sure without additional information. The woman certainly looks like an older version of Morrigan. They could bring her back with new powers and never have her reveal her background. That way those of us who played DA:O would know who she is while others would consider her a mysterious character.

Plenty of ways they could go. Let's just hope they don't screw it up completely for us Morri fans.

I'll simply repeat hat I said before: my condition for accepting the current direction of DA2 is to see Morrigan in that game. As long as they deliver on that I'll give the game a shot. Otherwise I'm done with Bioware's "epic dark fantasy" that spits on continuity because writers couldn't be arsed to connect stories together.

I'd also like to point out that David Gaider said in this very topic that he's aware people want to find out what happened to Morrigan after Origins.

He also said that wehatever they do in DA2, Bioware won't disregard continuity completely.

This makes me believe we could see Morri again and even discover what happened to the Warden and other companions from Origins.

I hope they don't screw it up for fans of any character, having ME2 Liara flashbacks.

He means well but  the suits at EA decide what gets the money, if they want more Mass Effect in his Dragon Age he can't really stop them. Without EA's money nothing Gaider wants to do gets done, and EA has only one resposibilty at the end of the day: To produce a positive net growth for it's shareholders.

I doubt it's Morrigan now. They said we'd be SURPRISED at who it was.

Due to her yellow eyes, I'd say she is Flemeth after devouring Morrigan and stealing her body.

A sad surprise for some, happy surprise for others.

Gaider also claimed he isn't for writer borne cruelty to fans.... yeah.

It would be myopic to say DA2 is writer borne cruelty quite yet, but if the Warden and Morrigan's story is just ditched for fancy pants epic hero HAWKE! then yeah, thats a bit of a curb stomp after the Morri romancers have been swiftly punched in the balls with Origins' ending.

And with the new DA2 forum my favorite info site, DA central is useless to me ! Curses!

So what do we do now? Do we speculate about a DLC, or do we start a rant?

Where's barbarossa?

I'm not sure if we should take his word literaly.

Flemeth didn't have yellow eyes as far as I remember and it would be truly an epic slap in the face of anyone who did Morrigan's personal quest if it turned out to be for nothing.
That means nothing you did concerning Morrigan mattered in the long run. Not your efforts to recover Flemeth's grimoires, not you killing Flemeth herself, not the romance with Morrigan and not the DR (past Origins itself).

The whole point of her quest was to free her from Flemeth and ensure she would never be able to possess her runaway daughter.

Now, we can't really say until we have more info.
She could be older Morrigan, Morrigan's daughter in her late years or Flemeth herself. However, most people expect Morri and Flemeth to appear at some point so they wouldn't be surprised if this happened.

*Lights up Barbarossa batsignal*

Seems the only way we'll get anything more with our poor sap of a Warden is through DLC or an (unlikely) expansion pack. *sigh* I'm trying to chill out before I make a huge rant and start my Exalted March to Edmonton.

This could be a fantastic game, but unceremoniously ditching the Warden with the lame arse "vanished!" ending in Awakening is complete and total rubbish. The more I read about DA2 it seems like they're making it one big "do over."  Like its a new entry point to DA and not much of a continuation.  Seems more like a spin off than a true sequel.

One interesting thing to note is that Hawke is supposedly the Champion of Kirkwall- thats in the southern part of the Free Marches, really close to Ferelden actually when you check it out on the Thedas map. Don't know what that means really but there it is...

Indeed, we need one of his epic posts to mark this event, culminating in how all male romancing wardens are chumps . I look forward to your rant though Brock. Wasn't Morri travelling in the wrong direction in the epilogues to end up in the Free Marches? Maybe they decided to scrap the hints that pointed toward Orlais in favour of this.

Just posted a blurb on Gaider's profile to not forget about the Wardens who romanced Morrigan... Gaider's response: "I wouldn't leap to any conclusions just yet :) "

Either we're getting played or hope still lives!?

This decade stuff does make think they're trying something hugely ambitious again, maybe it'll turn out well... I'll await more info before making any further comments.

Dammt, shades of Molyneaux !!!!!

The thing thats curious to me, is that it supposedly takes place over 10 years. But when does it start? Before Origins? Maybe it starts before Origins and past the events of Origins? And Hawke is supposed to be a survivor of the Blight, but they never say which one? Maybe this is a prequel of sorts?

I'm keeping an open mind. I'll read up on it. But everything mentioned so far has me doubtful and weary. Maybe with the exception that Priestly said there isn't multiplayer. Thats a start.:)

Honestly?

Gaider can be accused of being a lot of things, but not a liar. He is well aware how disappointed people were when Morrigan left at the end of Origins and how we constantly asked him and Bioware to at least allow us to find out what happened to her.

Out of all the DA:O fans, it was us Morri fans who got kicked in the balls the hardest and Bioware is no doubt aware of that.

We deserve at least some kind of satisfaction.

Right now my money is that the white haired mage in DA2 is Morrigan herself.

@Brock

Please share a huge secret with me. How exactly do you post blurbs on someone's profile? All I can ever do is post a comment once the reply field is open. I can never figure out how to do the palm's up thing or post first.

Yup, if you check out the map of Thedas, Kirkwall is about directly north of West Fall in Ferelden. Having it set in the Free Marches at least in part makes sense if we're going to be becoming all King like, what with the Free Marches being city states and all.

But yeah, I would have thought we'd be headed for Orlais.... So much of this DA2 stuff seems so far out of left field. FWIW, back in that episode of GTTV from March, Muzyka said they were working on the March title, which we now know as DA2, but also something beyond that. New speculation! Maybe a ex-pack to properly send off the Warden?

Hehe damn a lot of info i missed out on, I come back to the forum after some weeks and get some DA2 announcements thrown at us. Indeed very neat that it is announced but that it makes our wardens seem somewhat...well...out of the picture is not so very encouraging ;D

Still once again the brockmeister (yes you is getting new nickname!) has struck some hidden clue of gaiders. Could this (hopegrenade inc) mean that unlike ME they are going with either import warden or play hawke? I mean we are talking about a timeframe where the warden, if not sacrificed, should at least be alive for part of the 10 year window the game is meant to span. Also I think this could be a way for bioware to avoid the problem that probably plagued ME2 sales: It implies too much that playing part 1 is required in order to make sense of it all, thus it was limited to some extent to those that loved part 1. With this there is a possebility that the "reboot" vibe attracts new players, and frankly no matter how nutty "hawke" sounds it is better than "random orlesian warden with no backstory"

Well if hopegrenade 1 (see above) is a dud then perhaps gaider is hinting that a Dragon age Origins 2 is the next project?

And if both are duds I have enough cash from my summer job for a planeticket to canada and a cheap chainsaw? We still on for this exhalted march?

I'm not averse to a new story with new hero at all. It could be amazing. But as of now, given what we now, its shoddy storytelling to have the Warden "vanish" and thats that.  I mean we're the Hero of ****g Ferelden and we get written off with  a .ppt slide? I'm thinking more DLC or an ex-pack will clear this up. The toolset info on the DR still lingers in my mind....

As for playing as the Warden or Hawke? Doubt it- unless its some plot twist in the game, I don't see that happening. And to boot, we're not totally clear when DA2 is supposed to be taking place. We know its ten years long but not when in the timeline of things.

I'm coming around to this, but there are still far too many red flags raised ranging from the seemingly Fable nature of the story, or the "dynamic new combat" or the "new visual style." Lots of questions and uncertainty, not much in the way of answers at this point.

So, Bloodshot, I'm still up for that Exalted March but I'm gonna wait just a bit longer ;)

I don't think we should expect another expansion for Origins to be honest. Neitrher would I bet on getting some closure via DLC.

I'm not sure what Gider actually ment by that comment, but I think he was reffering to DA2. We'll just have to wait and see what comes of it.

The art style is looking very jrpg-ish to me, not necessarily a bad thing, in fact it strongly reminds me of korean game concept artist whose name eludes me right now...

That said, there's a lot of rants springing up considering we only have some concepts and a blurb to go off atm, the quintessential kneejerk reaction Gaider predicted :(
