I agree with the part about the voice acting. Knight is correct, and it truly is the death of our character and instead is just rent-a-hero to play Bioware's story. With the bullcrap they have pulled (must be human, must have this name, must have this Origin and storyline) having a voice or not really does nothing as far as putting a personal stamp on what is going to be an impersonal avatar. I like Shepard, I enjoy his story, his games are fun, he's not my character. Hawke is going to be the same way. I guess I should have said that as a preface so people could see where I was coming from.

At the same time, couldn't that be said of our Origins characters? They're not really our own but BioWare's? I mean, Awakening conflicted with a couple of Origins endings, and I don't think any of us Morrigan romancers are going to get an ending we deserve. Just throwing that out there.

As to the timeline, unless they drop a 'this is 30-40 years in the future', I expect to see a few Dragon Age NPCs return as NPCs in DA2. It's just Bioware's M.O. to pick and choose their favorites from the previous game and throw them in the mix of a whole slew of new NPCs. As to not wanting to see NPCs because it will ruin our Origins story, we all need to stop and come to grips with something right now : They lied to us. Our choices never mattered. DA2 will have enforced Canon about Origins that will probably be left vague in most parts to not completely put the finger into the eye of fans, but as far as they are concerned we were the alternate universe of Dragon Age.

See above.

MK:

Graphically, I hope they are using the Unreal engine from Mass Effect. It's far superior to the DA one, and it's something they already have experience in using and crafting things with.

How much mileage is left in that engine? Just about every other game I've gotten in the previous decade uses that engine...

Listen to this, for some reason it always makes me feel better.

For now I will wait for more news before getting grumpy.

Weezer FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Red Album is their worst one though...... The Blue Album is where it's at, when Weezer used to be a bunch of nerds hanging out in their garage playing D&D, the good old days.

The biggest tragedy here is the lack of the Warden if you ask me. I could accept a new hero if they were a blank slate, but Hawke over here seems hell bent on making us play ME. Could I be wrong? For sure, the game could have DA:O's convo system and Hawke could in fact be a blank slate. But I highly doubt it. From all the talk of an epic cinematic experience it seems almost impossible for the ME system NOT to invade Dragon Age. The wheel system may seem relevant and 'up to date' to lots of people. But the PC not having a voice and the player seeing all of what they're about to say was never really old or outdated in my opinion. And if Bioware claims that it is, I say there's no school like old school.

And to everyone telling people like me, Brock and KoP to stop complaining (even Gaider): we're sorry we felt the need to express our opinions. It's a really bad condition, we're well aware of that. The next time Bioware announce something and we don't like it/are concerned about it, instead of voicing those concerns, we'll fling our arms up into the sky and rejoice to the heavens, claiming that we'll pre-order whatever it is Bioware just announced without a doubt in our minds. Come on, its our opinions, no one said you had to agree with them or even like them.
To be honest, I trust Bioware to make a great game, in all honesty I really do. They haven't let me down when it comes to full games, but it seems like they want to go down the ME route with DA2 and that really upsets me. I swear though, if Bioware manages to prove me wrong about that, I'll go on every DA2 thread and apologize to every person individually for speculating.

What does "Gaidered" officially mean?
So I know when to use it.

@ MKdauss

Origins in the game did not impose a personality on characters. They imposed a background, family name and circumstances that can shape your personality. But you were free to imagine and create your personality in whatever way you desired.

I made two Couslands, two mages, 1 Aeducan and planing to make another. All of which are completely different in terms of personality.

Epic is nothing if not relentless in updates to that engine, it has support for all modern graphical effects.

The thing is for me at least is this: all the info and images released thus far make DA2 seem more like the Marilyn Manson, sky high flipping, action packed Sacred Ashes trailer than what we've come to know and love in Origins.

The PR and marketing speak from the DA2 site and from the EA press release don't sound like the Dragon Age I've come to enjoy- it sounds like they're having a Dragon Age do over to make it more suitable to the twitch happy FPS, 300 loving crowd.

With Origins, we had seen screens and knew from the get go that it was actually an old school RPG before they released the EXTREME! bro marketing for it. GIven how radically they implemented changes into ME2, BioWare's only other recent sequel, it stands to reason that those of us who liked Origins just fine might be concerned BioWare is trying to expand DA's mass market appeal by essentially cutting out the old school BG fans.

I'm hoping much of what was released today is marketing hype speak and not indicative of the final product. With any luck, the 10 page Game Informer article will either put some fears to rest or merely stoke the flames of discontent. Time will tell....

Posted Image I can't like FPSes too?

I think that Pork and Beans should be our fan anthem against EA and the people at Bioware who want AMP OUT and INTENSIFY, or SPARTIFY Dragon age. Oh well where there was once a cool warden, we get a generic Leonidas super soldier who emotes in Monoton. (Hale and Meer i glance at YOU!)

If yet another series goes to the LCBF then I will lose all hope in gaming anymore.

Unreal is constantly evolving, I expect it'll be seeing some serious improvements shortly in order to rival the latest cryengine.

No, because they allowed a certain freedom and variety of options with the Warden that allowed you to put your own personal stamp and identity on the character you simply cannot do with a PC like Shep. It doesn't mean having a story with a PC like Shep is inherently going to be the lesser of the two stories, but don't trick yourself into believing you are doing anything but stepping into Bioware's personal Gary Stu over the course of the story.

Yes, it's sad when lead characters have less personality and humanity in them than HK-47, a droid, and Shale, a golem. Ugh.

Hell, Sten has more personality and humanity than Shepard.

I loved HK-47 because of his complete desire to destroy everything and how homocidal he was.
Shale was cool and developed into an amazing charachter at the end.
Sten was cool and amazing detailed, and acted. Cookies and an great sense of humor.

Shepard is only like "I SHOULD GO!"

His first few albums were fantastic. I saw them years ago and even though the crowd was a little...not my style, the music was very good. I hate playing the 'early is always best' card with music because it's so played out, but his last few releases honestly have bordered on self-parody.

Anyone else seem to think that the image that EA has of most gamers is a twenty year old male living in a frat house who cant enjoy a game without constant violence and sex.

Well I am 19, but the fact stands that EA is under the view that all gamers or the vast majority are BROS.

I'm mid 20s, my youngest sister is 18 and my family is from Orange County so we don't/didn't exactly live in a bad part of town so to speak. I meet a lot of people in the 18-22 year range via her and they are 95% of the time dumbasses who worship at the shrine to mediocrity. You just happened to rise above the stupidity of todays youth, don't take it personal.

Not entirely mad. Certainly not happy. I think this is a wrong turn. At this moment, it doesn’t really hold much of my interest. My first reaction, the only positive is the $50 I won’t be giving BW next year.

Though, I was intrigued by the speculation of it being a possible prequel.

Oh, and here’s a wild one… one of the Devs declared we will be shocked… shocked I say! When we learn who the woman in the art is.

Flemeth… I don’t think many would be very shocked… Morrigan… I think even fewer would be shocked…

What if its… Andraste?
That would shock me. Would they make a prequel back that far? They say Hawke (don’t even get me started on that name, as if they had a contest for the single lamest name they could use) is a survivor of the blight. They don’t specify which one. Certainly a lot of important events happened in that time period, but I don’t know if Andraste survived a blight… though, they’ve shown they don’t mind playing with the lore.

Not sure if something else has been released that would invalidate that comment, it was just a random thought.

This is going to be my last post tonight, maybe for a while.

I came to Bioware as an RPG virgin, never set foot in anything beyond some old PS1 sports game or age of empires, or the first sims. I sat down with KOTOR and feel in love and had an amazing time playing as Revan. Jade Empire roles around and yet again I was drawn in, and had a blast living out a life as a martial artist who was saving the world. I entered Mass Effect 1 and was introduced into a setting that rivavled Star Wars it was that good.

When Dragon Age hit my laptop, once again I was drawn into a detailed amazing world and enjoyed everything after more than 10 playthroughs. Now ME2 comes and all I felt was how hollow and cheesy it was compared to its ansectors. If Bioware goes down the BRO road, I will not being coming along. Dont get me wrong I love FPS, TPS, and action games like Red Dead Redemption. But I am a fan of Bioware for their worlds, charachters, plot, and detail. If Bioware pumps out MW2, Halo, and GoW clones like it seems to be coming to than a true giant of gaming will have died and come back as something pathetic.

Call me a gaming snob if you want but EA should go implode and leave Bioware to do what they do best, and not force them into a Bro-Game factory line.

Peace. Giggles Out.

They said it's still set in the Dragon Age, so it has to be set sometime after our Blight. It could be Andrastae arisen, but with the few glimpses we have at her character at the moment she seems to fall much more to the draconic side of the scale and not the Maker like Andrastae would be.

If I had to go for a gotcha shock on the fly, I'd say she's one of the Old Gods.

There's only 3 remaining if you did the DR. 2 without.

I posted Andraste earlier today (that post is prolly in the bowels of the DA2 forum by now). It would be moderately shocking, but I think now that we're supposed to be shocked, I'm not going to be surprised at all...

Possibly, depends on whether when they say Dragon Age they are referring to the Time Period or the Game, Community, Setting, etc.
