The guy on the left is definately Loghain, look at the hair. What does he have to do with anything?

Maybe it's part of their new Morality scale bad things turn your armor dark and your hair black while good things turn it gold and you become a blonde!

I just made myself sick with that one.

Oh boy...well they already did it in KOTOR (it made sense ther with Star Wars though) and more recently with the rubbish Terminator look you get from stress and "negative energy"  in ME2.

What I wouldn't mind seeing would maybe be scars you accumulate over the course of 10 years...but Fable did that already too:pinched:

Hmm,this could be some kind of intro art. It looks similar to the drawings you see during Duncan's intro in Origins and again during the intro in Awakening.

I certainly hope it's only that.

Perhapsthis art explains the Blight and the civil war that made you into a refugee.

Thats very likely. One of the things I'm quite fond of in DA and its back in BG were the animated, drawn intro sequences. I always liked those. But to have the whole game be super stylized like that? No thanks.

Right, so I decided to go for it and asked Gaider whether we can expect to see Morrigan again at some point.

Answer: "I'm not at liberty to tell you, sorry!"

Heh, he sure loves to keep us guessing. :)

Grrrrr..... we'll just have to keep trying. PM all the other writers! One of them will slip up!

This.

It's why you need to contact them in person, like a video interview or something. Then you press them like journalists never seem to anymore...

Yeah, video game journalists especially roll over for developers.

Ok....who here is getting an anime vibe for the white haired woman with nightmare's hands from Soul Calibur? No offense meant to anyone, but that's possibly one of the worst things that could happen right now.

She's supposed to be my baby?

On a more serious note, I can certainly imagine this kind of question:
"Do you know who your father was?"

"No...I don't. But mother used to talk about him on rare occurences. Never for long. There was something in the way she spoke of him. A certain fondness and sadness in her voice...is that love? I don't really know. But I do know that if there was one man out there whom my mother cared about, Twas him."

"Was his name....KoP, the Xanatosawesome legend?"

"Yes, twas him!! Daddy I want a hug!!"

that's no surprise, is it? I suppose that was one of the main reason for choosing a preset character, so he or she can her his or her own voice. And those fancy cinematics we know of Mass Effect of course.

So, he flees from Lothering, so he can't be just a baby but at least somewhat grown up when he does. So DA 2 plays more or less right after Origins, maybe even within the same time for the start of the game.

And am i the only one who thinks that white haired woman can't be Morrigan who heads to Orlais. Okay, she might appear in the Free marches years later, but as the story probaly starts while Origins is still running, that would feel very contrived to me? Damn, i need to know who she is.

edit: comic style   And does this beast in the screenshot look like a discipline or is it just me?

The Hawke guy in the second looks ok, but it seems the lighting is still total rubbish. What will be interesting is if the animations improve any. Clearly a darkspawn Ogre in the 1st and what almost looks like a Disciple in the second.

Could be worse, but color me not impressed...

I am indifferent. I didn't give a rat's ass about graphics in Origins and when a sequel is made, I expect them, however naively, to focus on what made the game great first and foremost and not try to window wash it with prettyness that isn't even that pretty. But we'll see.

What I am not indifferent about is the fully voiced Hawke. That means that having a suave roguish character is out of the question, as they probably will make him sound like a brute. Hopefuly they make the effort of hiring a VA good enough to make it tolerable.

That would be totally awkward in the RP sense, seeing that the PC would know more about another character's father than the child itself. Gameplay mechanics wise, it's OK, but RP wise, not so much. At least in KOTOR II you and the conversing NPC knew the dynamic ex-PC about on the same level.

I hope those are prelims. They aren't as bad as I would have thought (I was borderline expecting something TOR ish), but it isn't quite as photorealistic as DAO.

Hmmmmm. Then I guess I probably will wait for DA2 to be bargain bin.

Edit: I honestly don't get it.  DA was so wildly popular.  Why do they feel the need to make such radical changes?  People LOVED it.

Wouldn't they also provide for multiple VOs like they did in Origins? But I agree, a one-size-fits-all VO set would be the wrong way to go IMO.

I seriously doubt they'll have multiple VAs for this.  Expect 2.  You will be playing your character, not becoming your character.

I'm very sad :(

I guess that is a clear: no. To hire more than one voice actor for each gender, pay him or her just ti give people more options to play? Way too expensive. Just like, Shepard, i'll take every bet you will be stuck with one male and female voice. If you like it, good for you, if you don't, tough luck

Yep Ejoslin. Not even your eyes would lighten my mood now.

I can't play a suave cunning rogue with a brutish idiotic voice! They better have someone who sounds smart.

If he starts as a grown dude in Lothering, then I doubt the white haired mage is Morrigan, perhaps Flemeth reborn in a new body? Or maybe its Morrigan after the DR which messes her up?

As for the screens....yeah. Are they "super hot" like Zeschuk said they would be? Meh... Seemingly luke warm is more like it.

That "five facts about Hawke" article pretty much confirmed Morrigan won't be in DA2.

We know he was old enough to fight when he fled Lothering during DA:O. That means his adventure in DA2 could start during the events of Origins (it actually makes sense, since in the intro they'd only need to tell about the battle of Ostagar and about the darkspawn spreading across Ferelden in it's wake, not recount everything that happened in DA:O).

Since Origins lasted for about a year, that means Morrigan was still in Ferelden for at least one year of DA2.

Whoever that white haired woman is she certainly isn't Morrigan or Flemeth.

However, there is a silver lining to this cloud. If the game starts roughly during Origins, it means we could see some of the old companions. More, it means that by the end of DA2 it would be likely that our Warden is still alive somewhere in Thedas.

That means there is a chance of seeing him, Morrigan or OGB in the future.

well the facts say he flees Lothering, so he at least has to be about what... 8 years old, most probably older? Consider that Oriring is about a year and Lothering at the beginning, he would be at least 9 before Origins end.

The thing is, if that is Morrigan after the DR, that would make it canon. Whats the point in giving that choice anyway if you don't care what the players decide. It just seems hard to imagine to me that within ten years, a (possibly pregnant) witch heading west to Orlais (to either raise her child in secrecy or hire at the royal cour of Orlais) end up way north and turn into a white-haired dragon like witch-abomination without venturing very deep into ridiculous terrotiry.

I just hope that is not her and BW plans will come upon us BEFORE they release DA 2. I have my serious doubts, but i hope

I don't want to be quick to judge them on technical aspects at this stage, but it appears they are using the same engine. I knew they would so we will have to see what upgrades they've done to it.

ejoslin you're thinking like a person, think like a joint stock company. The net profit margin on Dragon Age was not as high as on the Mass Effect series which dispite selling less copies and being less popular had a greater return on investment. Since just making more money than you spent is pointless to a joint stock company, they have to find a way to generate the "proper" net gain percentage to report to the shareholders. What is the most simple way to do this? Make your underpreforming product mirror the product that is preforming to expectations. It doesn't make any sense as a gamer or even a private individual but to an executive it's the obvious course of action.

@adneate you're right, of course. And I'm sure I will eventually play it. The DA2 GOTY edition. The silly thing is I LIKE a lot of games that are voiced (I'm currently playing and enjoying the Witcher) but no game has sucked me in for such a long time like DA:O did. The story of DA:O was a bit thin, but the interactions and feelings they invoked in me was absolutely unreal. A voiced protagonist makes me feel outside of the character.

Ah well. I'm sure the story will be good. And I'll enjoy it. But it will be just another game I pick up cheap and play once or twice I'm sure. If people I trust (NOT gaming sites) give it good reviews, I may pick it up sooner, but I'm no longer in any rush to see what happens in Thedas. I looked forward to the relationships (friendship and LI) more than anything because I guess I'm lame that way :/

Seriously BioWare? If you're going to try and milk my interest in DA by not throwing us a bone with Morrigan until DA3 or 4 or whatever- Thats it. None of this piddly, "maybe, maybe not" stuff. None of this" Oh but these are tales left to be told."

You kick anyone romancing Morrigan in the balls by stripping any RP choices out of the DR. You sequel bait the ending for anyone who did the DR. You conveniently have the Warden "vanish." Then you pump out meaningless DLC and a craptastic expansion pack that really does absolutely NOTHING to move the overall story forward. Now you're taking the old school Baldur's Gate style RPG and kicking it to the curb for a Conan the Barbarian meets Mass Effect cartoon. Why am I supposed to give a damn about DA2?!?

I'm willing to give this a chance until more is revealed, but everything just looks like one big clusterf*** of a game right now. Every reveal thus far has subsequently diminished my interest in this game and the world of DA in general. The Old School BG style RPG is officially dead. Congrats BioWare, you're probably losing a longtime fan.

Bravo, really.:(
