I said yesterday parts of DA2 would run during Origins, confirmation came today. Basically DA2 will end 5-6 years after Awakenings timeframe, so that's somewhat interesting in the overall scheme of things. Finding out Hawke (spit emoticon, where are theeee?!) ran like a **** from the Blight? Slightly less than heroic.
Most important man in Thedas? Well, that better be buzz PR in action because my Warden stopped the toppling of Ferelden which would have cascaded across the majority of the continent. Hawke is going to have to do something quite major to overshadow that. First thought? The new Andrastae. The Free Marches become the new Old God Headquarters in the realm, a new superpower formed with a new religion led by a divine mortal. It's just my first guesstimation, but how much they are pushing that the plot is about Hawke, not the land, he has to become something major politically and theologically. Another Chantryland wouldn't seem to fit. Or perhaps he becomes the Evil Empire, leading it all Conan the King style, and DA3 brings back the Warden to topple him and his evil Dragon Empire. Who knows, I just don't see how he can be so absolutely, positively vital that he outshines anything. Maybe he and his LI create the new Andrastae and they kick us in the balls again as she runs off to be beside the Maker in a flash of light and the trumpets of archons and cherubs leaving us sitting on the bed with a card to the Warden's 'I just got ass-****ed' support group.
Screenshots look like crap. Most likely works in progress so I won't judge them yet, but it looks WORSE than Origins. Still waiting on the magazine to make up my mind on these 'super hot graphics', but let me be honest and say I feel so much better that the terror of 'Samurai Jack Origins' doesn't seem to be playing out. Speaking of W.I.P., the art of the White Witch, I don't like the update. For starters, grannies shouldn't show ass. Put on some pants. Two, Wizards of the Coast are probably pissing themselves that a Tiefling has shown up in Dragon Age. Three, they hint we know who this is, and judging by the timeframe and the draconic influences, Flemeth goes into the leaderboard for me atm.
Side note, let the broification be complete. Hawke surname for males, Hunt for females.
Player voice over: Knew it would happen, not exactly thrilled but not calling it the absolute worst thing ever. The moment they picked a canon appearance, name, and background I already knew this wasn't MY character but just my rent-a-hero Bioware so graciously provided me like Shep. Tacking on a voice doesn't really hurt anything when you already come to terms with the ****ing you took in originality and imagination yesterday. I just pray the voice is a good one and they don't fall into this obsession they have with 300 and give us this gravel-laced, deep growl, utter ultimate badass conan wannabe.
Speaking of Hawke, why does he look so familiar. And it's not because of Ximena. There is something, somewhere, that I just can't remember right now that was famous for wearing the armor and having the pelt collar thingie. I know it but just can't remember it.
Another side note, are people still turning up noses and saying we are being overreactive pricks because we don't know anything about the game, even though we have a dozen major points already to form an opinion on? Just wondering if that high horse is still in effect.
Shiori brings up a good point that anyone who spent a week on the forums could have noticed (not an insult to you Shi, rereading this for edits that seemed to have an edge to it so just being safe.) the number one thing that turned fans into hardcore fans were the interactions with companions, especially on the LI side of things. People point to the One and Done crowds giving just as much money as the Twenty and More, but that's not true. We, the Twenty and More, are the jackasses who will buy your T-Shirts, your posters, your DLC consistently, your Stein drinking mugs that are way too ornate and pinch my lip at times (DAMN YOU JOSEF BUGMAN!) when I refuse to pay three digits for a cup and never use it, your game soundtracks, and what have you. We are the money flow that you can keep adding to your product, so really don't discount us because we 'just' paid 50 bucks like everyone else. I've bought the game, and expansion, four DLCs, and a poster so far. Others probably have sunk way more in. To interrupt my own rant, I dont KNOW that they are tossing our stories and LIs to the side yet, but it definitely seems to be going that way. They could announce a send-off xpac or maybe the Warden returns in the third game and this becomes obsolete, but it really seems they are going this way with the mindset 'Ah, they'll just settle for Miranda this go around'. **** that noise.
Brock, I loved the old Bioware entry pieces from the Book of Alaundro (sp?) and the tile mosaics they introduced in between chapters. Whoever the old man is who voiced them should totally be brought back since I highly doubt Duncan will be narrating this game. Knowing how important and just absolutely badass awesome Hawke is, the Maker himself is the only one worthy to speak of his journeys, and even then only by doing six shots of whiskey every time he speaks the name of Hawkicus.
As to Gaider and being mum, take it as a good sign. Of course he will use doubletalk and PR speak, but if it wasn't at least being bounced around as an idea, he would just tell you 'No'. He's done it several other times, so the fact he's telling you he can't tell you means something is there.
Oh man, let's see what else has come out today. I'm honestly not in a bad mood or upset, even though I may seem to be coming off a bit confrontational and edgy in this post. I'm just highly dissapointed that everyone knew they had a good thing, and instead of changing and building upon that good thing they are smashing the Jenga pile to the side and just rebuilding it so be so Sparta Extreme.

And I think this also pretty much seals it that we won't be playing the Warden again, unless they're going to let us have 2 PCs. Since Hawke is fully voiced, he could transition into NPC/Companion status a lot easier (since the Warden is for the most part voiceless).
I've heard this theory before that Hawke is important but ancillary at the same time, that we build him up in DA2 only to return as The Warden and destroy him in DA3. It sounds like the craziest thing I've ever heard, I mean do they really expect people to keep savegames for 4 or 5 years? It just feels like wishful thinking by people who want to convince themselves that BioWare woundn't abandon them like this.
People keep their MMO characters for quite a few years. I know, apples and oranges...

You should consider making a collection of them.
I also agree about with you on Gaider and his answer. Officialy, the "I'm not at liberty to answer that" line is used when the question touches upon future projects which you cannot talk about.
I also asked if we should consider Origins to be the end of Morrigan's tale, so he could have easily replied with "yes".
I have no doubt Morri will be back at some point. I do, however, doubt we'll see our Warden again. I'm willing to dare Bioware to prove me wrong on that account though.
So yes, I'll take what he told me as a sign that something may be cooking that involves Morrigan.
Also, I'll wait until they release some more info before I start flaming DA2. Not saying I'll hate i or love it in the end, but I'm certain I'll never live over the fact that people are going to call me "Hawke" in the game. *shudders*

Haha, naw, that's just me letting whatever's on the tip of the tongue go.
To Adnate, did Mass Effect really make more money than Dragon Age? I could have swore I saw numbers that Dragon Age actually outsold ME by a rather decent amount, and other than DA having a much higher production cost I just can't see how ME would outgain DA. What happened?

From what I've pieced together it appears that DA having a proprietary engine was almost more than BioWare could take, the development of the Eclipse engine was a massive undertaking to say the least. It required years of work, tons of QA testing and millions of dollars in funding. Mass Effect however uses Unreal Engine 3 from Epic a simple licence and they've got working development tools and can begin production immediately. This fundamental difference makes the return of investment higher on the Mass Effect series than the Dragon Age series, dispite ME being very North American centric and recieveing limited success on the global market. As I've said before joint stock companies do not function like regular small businesses, to a joint stock company percent growth and return on investment mean more than profit.

Alright, just finished reading the DA2 article in my GI mag. WARNING! I am going to be posting some of the things that really stand out. (To me anyway) So if you don't want to know, skip my post.
1) We will be able to import our DA:O games into DA2.
2) We will see Flemeth at some point.
3) Pissing off party members won't always be a bad thing. "They won't necessarily leave. They may still join you, but they're going to try to show you up, and that may influence battle in a different way."
4) We're getting the ME2 conversation wheel, but this time instead of having some dialogue be a particular color the center of the wheel will show a symbol to show what kind of reply it is. (The article uses the examples of them being something like aggressive or sarcastic)
5) The way the story unfolds will be very different compared to the past Bioware games. "Dragon Age II has a framed narrative structure, which means that the exploits of Hawke occured in the past, but are being retold in the present." "Narrators with unique insights into the events in question tell the tale of his past adventures."
6) We may get to see some of the DA:O events at the start from a different perspective. "Dragon Age II begins as the events of Origins are still taking place, so you may see some familiar events from a different angle."
7) Because of the game spanning a decade, we get to see the consequences of our actions sooner, rather than in a little text at the end of the game.
8) The PC version's combat system remains mostly the same. "The PC version implements the same strategic approach afforded by a mouse-and-keyboard control scheme." "Rather than try to mimic the PC experience on consoles, Dragon Age II has a battle system more tailored to the strengths of the PS3 and 360."
First Info from the GI article.

The new Andrastae. The Free Marches become the new Old God Headquarters in the realm, a new superpower formed with a new religion led by a divine mortal.
I think this would be pretty cool. You'd be directly involved in politics and religion, your choices would potentially influence the entire world, for good or ill. Very cool.
