The problem with HAwke after DA2 is that depending on how powerful he becomes he might be a true powerhouse. And we all know how hard it is to create realistic stories around such a character as a protagonist.
Also, we have no idea how exactly he's goign to change the world. He could end up being a hero or a new threat, as big as the blight.
With Flemeth involved anything is possible...

@ Shiori. That's what I think yes. I think Hawke will play an important part in the future of the franchise (just hopefully, we won't play as him / her after DA2, as there is no point). But yea there are a lot of things happening in the Dragon Age, such as OGB and Awakening of the Darkspawn. Possibly even a Qunari invasion which was hinted at.
I personally do not mind having Hawke cameos in the future. Who knows, he might be a character I end up liking. Maybe even him apearing as an antagonist? That would be quite unique and interesting. I do not think however that he'll be a companion, as it ends up downgrading him quite a bit.
I agree with Shiori and KOP. The thing thats killing me though is that while that might seem epic to have everything culminate eventually, damn thats going to take a while!
I'm not getting any younger BioWare! I don't want to wait 5-10+ years just to get resolution to Morrigan's storyline!

And maybe we have the choice of making him either a threat or a hero. But that would require canonising a choice if Hawke is going to be that relevent for the future of the franchise.
For now, I'm trying to like the guy. I'll never prefer a VA system over the silent protagonist, but I am praying that Hawke's VA is going to be likeable and has some emotional depth. If he is going to be that important, might as well not make him annoying.

60 hours of DAO - We get a kick in the crotch
15 hours of DAA -We get a botched .ppt slide that doesn't trigger
DA2- We get Hawke -- the Super Mutant from Vault 87.
Just how much do we have to endure to get some satisfaction from that character.... Jesus!

Maybe Hawke unites the Free Marches and turns them into, IDK, the Hawke Empire and then proceeds to invade the rest of Thedas.
Or he could start a series of revolutions ending the monarch/imperial system each government has in place sending them into something more modern...

Are talking about italian city states or a small barbarian states like in Conan?
Judging from how Hawke is dressed, with fur and armor more akin to those worn by the darkspawn, I'd guess we're talking about an almost viking like country.

Speaking of which, do we know how long DA2 is? I doubt it's as long as Origins. And even if it was, I doubt it's as replayable.
No clue... about the length. My negativity would wager it will be significantly shorter than Origins. For me, my 1st run of Origins took about 80 hours. ME2 first run took about 40. ME1 took about 20. Fact is that BG2 and ME2 were both longer than the original games, but since they're shaking so much up with DA2 I don't think its safe to say that DA2 will be longer than Origins. Perhaps its not as long, but maybe its deeper with a broader scope of possibilities?
Trying to look on the bright side of things, maybe the whole ten year deal means we can really have a wildly emergent narrative as the years go by. That could be very, very cool if done well. The more I think of DA2, I'm thinking its like BioWare's version of a Fable done right. Time will tell...
This post brings up some good points to calm everyone down, and there is even a rare Laidlaw sighting!

Its a good point- all we really know is that they're city states. As far as what accents they may have, I have no idea. From the art shown thus far, I've gotten a very Frazetta/Conan style vibe so I'm leaning towards the Free Marches being kind of barbaric or Viking like in nature.

The reason such a question popped up in my mind is because I was just talking to Morrigan about the legend of Flemeth and she mentioned how people believe Flemeth raised an army from among the Chasind tribes and invaded Ferelden.
What if Flemeth plans to guide Hawke to become some kind of warlord of the Free Marches, who could then lead his army alongside Flemeth against Orlais?
Kind of like how Andraste and Malferath led their barbarian horde against Tevinter Imperium.

Nice stuff Shiori. Flemeth being the Andraste of the Dragons/Old Gods? Yeah, I can see that. Since Flemeth is confirmed to make an appearance, I'm thinking we'll no doubt get more backstory on her and maybe more truth on some of the legends swirling around her, like the Cormac one...Oh and someone on the DA2 forum mentioned how the white haired Mage art is reminiscent of the outfits the Tevinter Magisters supposedly wore...Flemeth being an old Tevinter Magister???
But all of this begs the question, where there is Flemeth doesn't Morrigan follow? How does (or doesn't) Morrigan tie into all of this?
Forgetting the voiced PC for a second, the potentially emergent style narrative taking place over 10 years could be really great. While we might not have immediate control of the PC, maybe we can actually make choices with true consequences this time around? Instead of dinky powerpoint slides? The possibility of real consequences for your actions makes me a bit excited...

wouldn't it be the other way round: where Morrigan is, Flemeth follows? Can't imagine Morri running around close to Flemeth waiting for her to get powerful enough to make a second attempt to possess her. I'd rather expect where Flemeth is, unless forced to be there, Morrigan is nowhere to be seen.

Just to examine the LI department:
Say you romance an elf or a mage (too much to ask for both?) but it causes a scandal in Kirkwall for doing so since Hawke is always a human.
Maybe that is why Hawke is going to only be a human since he can become the ruler. OH I LIKE THIS GAME NOW!

But Flemeth always struck me as a master manipulator. She gives advice to Maric, saves Warden and Alistair from the Tower of Ishal, has Morrigan get pregnant with OGB and now seems to have an interest in Hawke, who is supposed to change the world. Sounds to me like she's putting together pieces of a larger picture, except we can't figure out what it is. By itself each piece may seem big or small, but together they could form something truly massive in scope.

True, true. I'm just thinking that if we get Flemeth, Morrigan would fit in to whatever Flemeth is doing, whether Morrigan likes it or not. If Flemeth is a player in DA2 I'd think we would get some mention or hint of Morrigan... only Gaider knows!

I have played the game many times and yet failed to see tough decisions with severy consequences for my game
Yeah, the talk of consequences and the whole 10 year span could be marketing rubbish, just like Fable. But I'm hoping for something good to come out of this seeming heap that is DA2...

For all we know she could be Andraste herself. Maybe her power came from deals with demons, rather then the Maker himelf.

Yeah, and that reminds me of the interview about DA a while back where one of the devs mentioned how DA was like a big painting being slowly pieced together. And as more bits are revealed, we'd start to see more connections between everything. Time will tell if thats just hype or if DA can actually be as cool as it wants to be...

Come on how cool would it be to found a dynsaty, a reublic/empire, or something else and become some giant figure of history. Hawke they call super-important, and maybe forming an empire that can reuintie all of Thedas is what makes him important.
Or we can get some generic put a random monkey on the throne game again. And just like that another Sad Panda fell on me.

I've wondered that as well, I'm assuming they know the differences between my warden and their Hawke and why no matter how likeable their Hawke is he's never going to be mine. Since they've said that Dragon Age is different than Mass Effect and they like it that way I'm confused as hell as to why they would then go and Mass Effect the sequel. Prehaps they have future uses for The Warden but keeping savegames for years is just unrealistic, people could barely keep Mass Effect 1 saves and they knew Shepard was returning. I'm curious as to what information their savegame importer is going to strip out of Origins. If it takes plot flags and appearance data in order to generate random encounters with our Warden then they can have both characters in a sequel. Since Hawke is voiced with a known personality he can be either a companion or a villian, still it's a long time to wait for resolution but it would be intersting nonetheless.
