Personally, I found the party sytem in DA:O to be exactly the same as in BG2, except I could set up tactics and thus there was less need to micromanage everything.
I was just thinking more in line with the number of party member in BG2 versus the 3 you can take in DA.

As for making it the same as it was in ME, that's not really possible unless you want to reduce the amount of spells and abilities by about 70-80% which I can't see happening.
ME allowed for 4-5 abilities per squadmate. In DA you have about 8-10 on average.
I guess thats where we differ- I can totally see them hacking down the number of spells and abilities. The GI article talks about having fewer abilities but having more depth to them. To me that seems almost exactly like the dumbing down that took place in ME2- instead of a bunch of different biotic abilities to upgrade you only could say take shockwave and with every upgrade its radius or strength might increase. That mentality easily carries over to DA- fewer spells but more depth- so now you get fireball, but next time you level up instead of choosing another primal spell, maybe you can only pick an upgrade in the strength vs area of effect of the fireball. Given how much else they're seemingly taking from ME2, I could easily see them doing this- but I hope they don't.

The way I see it so many abilities and talents were a hell to manage on consoles due to bad control system thgat was tailor made for pc users. Now they're doing it the other way around. They making sure the controls work well on consoles before dealing with that on pc (where it should remain the same since it was designed for it in the first place).
I'll grant you that by the time Awakening rolled along, yes there were too many abilities and the new ones were far too powerful. So I wouldn't mind if they slimmed it down and refined it with more depth, but without drastically hurting the breadth of abilities. But with their talk of more emphasis on combos, I can see them cutting back abilities with the intent of making the gamer put more emphasis on teamwork in getting combos.
As for the PC deal, I've been burned too many times with shoddy PC ports to trust any dev that claims a console to PC port will judiciously play to the PC's strengths- it just doesn't happen anymore. But I'm more than willing for BioWare to prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath- the PC version will have the taint of the consoles all over it to some extent, for better or worse.

As for story and dialogue being dumbed down to ME level. Keep in mind that only the way you choose your replies is different. The quality and depth (I believe also the amount) will be the same since it's still DA writers who are crating it and not ME team (who obviously has different writing style). David Gaider said that he could easily recreate any dialogue from Origins with this new system without it losing anything.
The DA writers are definitely more talented and better overall, IMO than the ME ones. Thats just my opinion. So I don't expect the quality to go down that way. What I'm worried about is that due to the VO now taking up a bigger part of the budget with the voiced PC, you'll end up with a smaller amount of total dialogue spoken and fewer choices- meaning companion characters won't have the same volume of dialogue to deliver and we'll end up with Garrus and his calibrations all over again. Or romances that end once you have your "amped up" sex scene with "new visual style."
