Well, this explains why they keep saying that the DLC is more of the same things we loved, while I kept scratching my head thinking "More of what we loved? Who loved this?" I dunno about any of you, but I don't feel that extra special yearning for more of Thedas and nothing else familiar.
Yeah, I don't understand the DLC and Awakening either. If thats supposed to just be more of what made Origins great, I must have played a different game than the devs. I'll wait and see how DA2 shapes up when more info is out but it just seems stupid to me that after only one game in a new IP you change up so much- not only the gameplay but the look and the story too.
It comes to apoint where you wonder why its called a sequel anymore and not just a spinoff, if its going to be so radically different than Origins.
@MoSa: That would be an amazing idea to have every thing link back together somehow in DA3- unfortunately BioWare is not interested in amazing ideas at this time. Come back when you can make it like Mass Effect:whistle:

Hmm... this doesn't sound too good because, from what I can see, Jade Empire was cartoonish and this guy comes back and with him is back the cartoonish style as well, so in the end there's nothing new, it's some recycled idea.Brockololly wrote...
Interesting interview with Zeschuk where he talks abit about Dragon Age 2 and the changes (DA2 stuff on pages 2 and 3): http://www.eurogamer...nterview?page=2
P.S. I didn't play Jade Empire, my idea is from I've seen online.

I don't know. So far i am not certain DA 2 might not end up being an amazing game. Those morons defending their goddess BW at the DA 2 forum are right in that way as much too less is know to judge if the game will be good or bad. ( Though those guys forget that this also implies that too less is known to claim the game will be awesome, and claiming by simply believe BW is too amazing to do wrong...
Anyway, DA 2 might end up being a great game. My vision is just clouded by this unfinsihed plot dangling right before my eyes, and this being constantly neglected by BW officials annoys me. An ending has no need to close down all possible open question to the maximum. One possible rule should be it answers more questions than it lets to remain open. DAO does this, with one notable exception that is tied to one specific romance. And that just annoys me. They seem to have digged themself into a hole, probably cause they never expected such a stronge response, and now they only see one way out as they cannot make a game just serving one particular part of the fanbase: ignore it more or less completely.
But hey, nothing is lost. We know her story isn't finished, maybe that means DA 2, maybe DA 3or 4 or 5, maybe an xpac, we will see. I reserve my final disappoinming once it's certain they messed it up completely, though i admit BW seems to be moving straight into that direction.

Apparently the voice work is being done already. This bodes ill for Alistair fans, since we know from Steve Valentine's Twitter page that he's not working on DA2 or any DLC. Does anyone follow Claudia Black? Has she given any indication she's been in the studio?
just checked her page, no idea. If she does, they made no reference. But maybe Bw intends to keep her involement secret to not spoil the surprise/ secret they intend to build by cryptically saying "Morrigans story is not over, and we will say no more"?
And i never realized she lend her voice to Chloe Frazer in Uncharted 2, wow, now i know why i loved that girl and would have chosen her....

Even Morrigan's voice could be grating at times. Like the "it's cold in my tent" line.

What if she dies? Hawke won't give a crap, and the Warden won't be around. He would certainly feel a bit responsible(even though he may not be).
What if she goes mad with power? Same as above.
Or maybe Gaider takes a bump on the head and writes a happy ending in the epilogue where she reunites with him. Come to think of it... I don't even want this. Two years of dragging it on so they can finish it of in a .ppt slide. No thanks.
I would rather not see her again at this point. Her(crappy) ending can only get worse.

Maybe it's being a female myself, but Black's was one of the few female voices in the game that didn't grate on me after a while (or in some cases right away). One more reason why I'm pretty confident I would only play a MIKE HAWKE!, assuming I end up playing the game at all. If I have to listen to my PCs prattle on, I'd rather listen to a man. And we can bet that whoever is doing femHawke, it won't be Claudia Black.

that's one the reason i love to play as a female, especially when the PC is voiced. I can't stand listen to this cool dude all the time, so i usually switch to females.
But i heard this before, apparently some females players i know who usually can't stand to listen to female gaming voices all the time said Morrigans voice was bearable

Ah, so I'm not alone. So why do women sometimes have a low tolerance for female voices? And do the male players have this in reverse for male voices? Playing femShepard, I found her terribly annoying. Leliana and Wynne set the annoy-o-meter off through the roof. I'm reasonably confident that no matter who they get to voice a female PC, hearing her deliver romance and tough-girl lines would make me want to gag into a paper bag.MoSa09 wrote...

same for me with male voices, though it's less about romances but the "ubercool guy" that seems to be dominating video games. And they also sound that way.

It's probably being female yourself, for whatever reason it seems people get really picky and really annoyed with voice actors of the same gender. I can't stand Mark Meer in Mass Effect, I played as a male Shepard the first time I ever got the game and then never again. Though I had no problem with him as Tug in Leliana's Song. I'm sure the majority of people have no problem with same sex voice actors but I know there are quite a few who do if the ME boards are any indication.

Why? I mean, really, why? No voice actor ever can do romantic lines and tough girl lines without making you want to gag? I've heard a lot voice acting in my day and I'm pretty sure there are lots of women out there capable of doing that.

I don't rightly know. It's something I'm putting together just now as I think about why the idea of a voiced PC dismays me so much. I realized that it meant I wouldn't be able to play a female PC, which means I'm even more distant from my own character and care less about them.LadyDamodred wrote...

I mean, don't the female actors in most action movies drive you to distraction? Most of the time you can just ignore them and focus on the beefcake, but if I'm having to pay attention to what my PC is saying and doing, that's not much of an option. For one thing, they usually are 16 years old and look like they should be on a cheerleading squad. Stick a big machine gun in their hands and make them grunt and growl... ick. I mean, really. ICK. Or like Arwen in the LOTR movies, with her breathy melancholy. GROSS.
Probably one reason Claudia Black is less annoying is that she's older. Her voice sounds mature. I'm probably just assuming that they'll make the PC in DA2 younger, since our Wardens were pretty young and games tend to have PCs in their late teens-early 20s (or am I wrong there?)

Hard to guees how old Hawke will be, as we have just one screenshot. But i always thought Shepard is in his early to mid 30s, if you look at his pics up close so can see his skin especially around his eyes does not look like someone in his 20s. Besides his rank indicates he served in the military for quite a while. The Warden, on the other hand, semeed to be early 20, if at all.

The ME actors both sounded really bland, which is especially noticeable in the romance lines. Maybe the different voice inflections they're putting in for DA2 will improve things on that score. Still, I dunno... thinking about roleplaying a romance with another woman's voice doing the acting weirds me out.adneate wrote...

Bit parts don't bother me, it's having to listen to a voice over a sustained amount of the game where I found myself Esc-Esc-Esc'ing through Wynne and Leliana's speeches.

Nope, not at all. In fact, I just saw Predators last night and I loved Isabelle. And in the preview for Machete, the chicks look like they're gonna be pretty awesome.
As for the age of Hawke, I don't know. I'd imagine it'll be similar to what our Wardens were.

Commander Shepard is 29 at the start of Mass Effect 1, though in Mass Effect 2 you die and are brought back as a cybernetic super soldier so I don't know how much age really matters to Commander Shepard anymore. The Warden is very young however probably no more than 21 years old and it's possible they could be younger than that.

That is Mass Effect's biggest drawback are the Romance lines are either tolerable or bad, they've never been good ever, I think the effect that's putting you off is that it feels like your just watching two people like some sort of creepy voyeur. Though part of it does come down to personal preference I love Leliana and Morrigan's voices in Dragon Age but I hate Zevran's voice like poison and I can't even stand having him in the party. I doubt we could ever figure out exactly why some voices drive you nuts and others don't, it's probably highly personalized and different for each person. Another reason why I'm apprehensive about the switch to VOed Player Characters in Dragon Age, they're not going to be able to please everyone.

I guess they calculate that if they get you to buy the game, they make the same amount of money whether you play it once or play it into the ground as most of us probably have by now with Origins. So you'll live with what you don't like in order to see other things you do.adneate wrote...

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that while you can choose the response, you can't choose the line and the delivery. That's something you don't get to do with NPCs.
Unless the VAs are told to be generic when voicing a PC...

*shrugs* As long as the role is cast correctly, tough girls usually come out pretty good. Like I've said, I'm not fond of a voiced-PC, but the fact that we seem to be getting different inflections gives me hope.
And going off-topic, I highly reccommend Predators, though. It was pretty good. A return to the things that made the first Predator awesome. *looks at all the males* If you haven't yet, go and see it.
