Yes, let's all assume the worst, given that the only indications on what battle will be like on the PC as of yet is "about the same" when compared to Origins.

Why should I assume the best and why should I give this company the benefit of the doubt? The amount of subpar and rushed console ports passed off as "PC games" is staggering, the major players of the industry already have show they don't care about the PC. Their silence and dancing around the issue is as good as a no in my books, they've said nothing about the PC version compared to the endless praise and attention they've thrown upon the console version. If the PC version is apparently so good why won't they A) Talk about it and B) Show it off to the Media or the Public?

I'm assuming the worst with the PC version until I can see otherwise. Is that fair? Not really, but given the decidedly mediocre ME2 PC port done in house by BioWare, I'm not exactly optimistic that them working on the consoles and PC "simultaneously" will result in a PC game that feels like it was built with the strengths of the PC in mind.

I'll believe it when I see it- till then I'm skeptical. There have been far too many crummy multiplatform games that do nothing to utilize the PC 's strengths than I'd care to see. And thus far most of the advertised changes to DA2 seem to have been done with the consoles in mind, not the PC.

And here is another impression from a forum user who played at Comic Con:

marquiseondore wrote...

Back from playing the demo....

Graphics
- Having played DAO on the console first and having seen the screenshots, the graphics are better. Flemeth's hair and train portion of her armor fluttered in the breeze. Lighting and textures are improved.

Combat - Is nearly identical to what is in DAO already. So what's new? When attacking darkspawn you can cut them down. The commands are performed instantaneously, very responsive. FX for Talents.

Conversation Wheel - What was shown in the demo were examples of a personality option. There were only two examples. One gave 3 options the other only 2.

The young female mage that has been mentioned is Bethany. Cassandra I think is Orlesian, sounded like it. Hawke and Bethany both have British VOs. She sounds like a meeker Mhairi, and he sounded similar to Cailan. The narrator in the beginning is a young male voice (no accent).

My impressions, I still hate the hurlock design and their armor. The stylized design made the game look slightly cartoony during the Verric/Cassandra cutscene. FX for Talents are over the top and look ridiculous. Awesome, but too much. If felt like I was playing Dragon Age: Soul Calibur. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/andy.png[/smilie] I'm still on the fence with the conversation wheel.

I can't wait for the new DAO DLC!!!  Very difficult, i was dead twice within mins of the game.

*reads along* her being an Orlesian, makes sense.... wait a minute.

If you're perusing through the DA2 forum in some of the Comic Con impression threads there is some interesting stuff ( I said interesting, not good, necessarily)

Paraphrased from the DA2 forums from user marquiseondore:

FX talents make the game look like a hack and slash. One is a downward stab to the ground, the enemy if close to death then explodes to pieces (like Walking Bomb)

Another move allows you to slide (extremely fast) in a fiery streak towards your enemy to strike. When I say extremely fast....I mean insanely... almost like Flicker in Awakenings but with fire

Another called whirlwind, I can't remember what that looked like. It was different than the rouge version in DAO

Yes the graphics they are better than what is currently on the PC version. The inventory design is much the same from DAO, it will look familiar. The color is different.

I didn't check out the armor inventory... I rushing through it to see if it was the same. The UI was moved to the corner of the left side. Two bars, still red for health and blue for mana. I don't remember if there were portraits.

Since there seems to be some concern about lead platform, I can dispel a myth for you: it's not actually  that hard to develop on all three platforms once you have an engine that actually works on all three platforms. It's just a matter of ensuring  the bug fixes and optimizations work on all three, and then generating  assets that are both scaleable (as in they can move to be optimized  across all three platforms) and functional.

And since we already HAVE an engine that works on PS3, PC and 360, we can, in fact, develop on all three. Dragon Age II is "built," tested and run every day on all
three.

Coming from the guy who said Dragon Age will be "Aggresively Grey" that doesn't exactly mean much to me, I love how he came in to "dispel" a myth by saying NOTHING. Seriously read what he just wrote that whole thing says jack about anything, we know the engine runs on all three dummy it's the reason you can play it on them. What you didn't say was anything even remotely related to the many legitimatly concerned PC players who fear that with a console as the lead platform they are going to get another ME2 style crappy console port with no consideration for the unique nature of the PC as a gaming platform.

Pretty much my thought.  It's one of those lawyer answers, where you first go "oh, okay," and then a minute later think "heeeeyy, wait a minute!"  What's missing is that he does not specify which is the lead platform.  Can there really be three lead platforms?  You guys know this stuff better than I do, but he definitely didn't say "the PC version will be powerful, you will have XYZ, it will be as great for PC players as Origins was" and so on.

LOL  I'm gonna love it if the Bros have to play Hawke with Cailan's voice.

I take my perverse pleasures where I can.

Yeah- he pretty much said nothing. I have a hard time believeing they're making 3 separate versions of DA2- one for PC, one for 360 and one for PS3. Its entirely likely that yes, the engine works on all 3, bravo, but they're desigining the game with the weaknesses of the consoles in mind and instantly porting that version over to the PC. The question is are they doing anything extra for the PC once its ported on? Doubtful- that would be extra money and resources when they likely figure if it works on the console it works on the PC too.

I just really, really want someone to grill BioWare on the PC version and to get some PC gameplay. Like Shiori said earlier, if they don't say anything about or release a new toolset, I think its safe to say the PC version will be a crummy console port.

It's faster and more brutal, less cerebral and more exaggerated.

the combat is more over the top and potentially less grounded in reality.

Combat now feels like an action RPG that is more similar to that of a Lord of The Rings game than Baldur’s Gate

Moves are gory and flashy, with limbs and blood flying everywhere after a big slash or a devastating spell.

BioWare took notes to evolve Dragon Age 2 into what it is currently
shaping up to be... a much more combat driven action game. So much for
the rebirth of the Western RPG.

the fighting mechanics themselves seem to have changed to a hack-n-slash type of gameplay

the developers have simplified it away from what made the original so enduring to PC gamers

I have nothing to say about this abomination anymore. They've made it very clear who the game is for, and it's not for the people who bought Origins, it's for the people who didn't.

RBF: NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RBF: There is no curse in geekish, nerdese, or the tounges of fans to describe this evil.
RBF: My buisness is with Bioware, with developers and writers.
RBF: Come my friends, the fans are going to war. It is likely that we go to be ignored.
RBF: LAST MARCH OF THE RPG FANS.

Sad but true...hopeful fool that I am however, I'm still waiting to see the PC version in action before I leave DA2 to the carrion birds and relegate it to a Steam Sale purchase...

Well since Gaider said the DR didnt happen if the warden turned it down, many people are saying that Morrigan and the whole OGB arent going to be overly important.

Seriously....wtf?

"We also got to see the new conversation system. Dialogue has been simplified so that you only have up to three choices. Each choice is represented by an icon that indicates whether or it's a "good," "nasty," or "badass" choice. Good choices are represented by an olive branch, nasty by a Greek comedy mask, and badass by a red fist. This is an easy way to gauge what response your dialogue choices will produce. "

Wasm't this exactly what we were told won't happen? The idea of having "good" and "evil / nasty" options spelled down for us?
Is that supposed to be the varied emotional stances that little birdie Hawke will have? Good, nasty and "lulz badass"? Seriously?

My face and palm hurt badly.

Yeah, that was exactly my first thoughts on the icons. I was like, wait a second, weren't we told that the system *wasn't* going to dictate to us what the good and evil options were, that the morality was up to us to decide? Then I remembered this line from the same article:

Today we got a taste of the new combat system with a mountaintop battle against an army of orcs. They might have been imps or goblins or demons, actually. We're not nerdy enough to know the difference.

And I can rest assured that they have clearly no idea what they are talking about.

But they quoted the words "Good", "nasty" and "badass", which gave me the impression that this is exactly what each icon means. I hope those who wrote this are the idiots here and not Bioware.

Because honestly, wtf is "badass" supposed to mean in a game that supposedely has deep dialogues?

I thought it meant more like; "Good"="Nice, passive, compliant", "Nasty"= "Sarcastic, mean, cold-hearted", "Badass"="-HAWKE PUNCH"
