Brock, did BioWare ever state that the dragon age 2 release date and the awakening flyer date were not one and the same?
Well, you've got
this post by Priestly which was made when DA2 was unveiled:
Chris Priestly wrote...
Dragon Age 2 is NOT released in August. There is a supercool trailer coming in August, but DA2 will NOT be out in August (somewhere I can hear Mike Laidlaw and teh Dev team having heart attacks thinking of
launching in a month).
The February date is a promise of something cool, but not necessarily the launch of DA2. You'll just have to wait and see what we come up with.

So yeah, I think the last time we were promised something cool it turned out to be the BioWare Bazaar. My expectations of 2/1/2011 actually being "cool" are nil.
But in looking back, you've got
this episode of Game Trailers TV with Ray and Greg (skip to about the 17 minute mark) where they mention how they're working on 2 projects, one being DA2. Maybe the other is another expansion pack for Origins? Or are they already working on the 1st expack for DA2? So, who knows what the future holds. I'm not getting my hopes up- nothing post release has lived up to the promise of Origins, IMO.

An expansion would definitely be preferable if both the warden and morri are in it but the problem with another expansion is the game is already unbalanced beyond belief (which is why I can't fathom why they thought a combat-oriented dlc was a good idea). Another expansion post-Awakening would likely be akin to swatting flies unless they take steps to rebalance things.
True. And with the seemingly much smaller budgets of DLC and expacks, I can't see them really tweaking the combat mechanics too much.

As for any potential morri dlc, yeah I'll keep my expectations low to offset the inevitable disappointment, her demeanor doesn't make her a good choice as protagonist, like Leli was in her DLC. Maybe a shapeshifted morri and a group of enlisted wolves (hence no voices required) from the swamp will be exploring the korcari wilds or some such nonsense.
Its a Morrigan Flight Sim! Fly around as a bird and poop on Shale! Hoooray!

Good idea to stay on the low side of the expectations meter regarding our swamp witch. I foresee nothing satisfying coming forth (regardless of Laidlaw's comments), since anything other than our beloved Warden's dealing with her will be the death sentence for the franchise (at least for me).
Maintaining low expectations is the pragmatic attitude for this franchise. Ask any Morrigan romancer.
Spoken like a true Morrigan fan. I wouldn't mind seeing Morrigan's story continue, but unless there is some resolution to how she left the Warden before we (the players) see her again, I'll be sad and upset. I just don't want to see Morrigan turn up in DA2 with Hawke boning her as the stock Morrigan BioWare cooked up from Origins has conveniently forgotten all about the Warden.
What I'd be ok with would be maybe the Warden meets back up with her and their relationship is kind of like the Bhaalspawn and Jaheira's in the ToB epilogue- they weren't always together as they'd go off and adventure on their own at times, but they were never far apart- they always came back to each other in the end.
I'd be ok with that- I just don't want to see Morrigan or any other Origins companion show up in a future game like Wynne in Awakening where she isn't the Wynne you ended Origins with, but rather some carboard cutout Wynne created by BioWare. That just KILLS any immersion.
Oh and slight DA2 tangent, apparently,
DA2 will indeed be at Gamescom next week (19-22nd)- with playable versions of the 360 AND PC version. Anyone in Germany next week?
