I'd preffer Morri-Warden closure at some point, somehow.

I'm thinkning that the closure for that was the DR. Could be wrong, but I doubt it, since it'd be the easiest way for them to work with a fresh Morrigan and leave the baggage of the variables that the Warden brings behind.

And like you mentioned- if we get a little DLC, it'll likely either give closure for the Warden or Morrigan but not both. Outside of killing off the Warden or throwing some other Plot Hammer moment at the Warden or Morrigan, I don't think a DLC would suffice for any possible reunion. Which is why I'm thinking any Morrigan DLC we may get could even be an extra quest a la RtO maybe, that provides some background? I don't know- I'm just worried we'll get some sort of Morrigan DLC and we'll play it and like so much from BioWare as of late- just kind of sit there scratching our heads afterwards going "Huh?"

I'm really hoping that 2/1/2011 is one last expansion for Origins and not the goofy anime....

Brock, did BioWare ever state that the dragon age 2 release date and the awakening flyer date were not one and the same?

An expansion would definitely be preferable if both the warden and morri are in it but the problem with another expansion is the game is already unbalanced beyond belief (which is why I can't fathom why they thought a combat-oriented dlc was a good idea). Another expansion post-Awakening would likely be akin to swatting flies unless they take steps to rebalance things.

As for any potential morri dlc, yeah I'll keep my expectations low to offset the inevitable disappointment, her demeanor doesn't make her a good choice as protagonist, like Leli was in her DLC. Maybe a shapeshifted morri and a group of enlisted wolves (hence no voices required) from the swamp will be exploring the korcari wilds or some such nonsense.

Hey Terra.

No, I don't think that was ever explicitly stated, but iirc in the chatter since Awakening, it is going to be a different product than DA2.  I absolutely loved Leliana's Song and saw it as the one bright spot in an ocean of dlc mediocrity and sequel bad news thus far.  Of course, it would take a real Origins companion to provide this.

Good idea to stay on the low side of the expectations meter regarding our swamp witch.  I foresee nothing satisfying coming forth (regardless of Laidlaw's comments), since anything other than our beloved Warden's dealing with her will be the death sentence for the franchise (at least for me).

Maintaining low expectations is the pragmatic attitude for this franchise.  Ask any Morrigan romancer.

Chump...Baggage...take your pick!  We Morrigan-ites have quite gotten used to our second class status over the past 10 or so months.  Of course, being called myopic was at least something different. Posted Image

Hehe yeah we are being boned royally but i think the rest of the love interest fans aren't exactly getting themselves treated much better. Sure there were the letters and alistairs 1 special line and kiss but still it is not like we would or even should be happy with any of that either

Nothing is still better than something that turns out to be almost worse than nothing imo, that laidlaw claims that what they have planned for morrigan would please us is sure as hell not making me any more eager for the continuation. Ill go back to taking out my frustration in sc2 instead while hoping that the trailer next week is actually worth our time

Well, you've got this post by Priestly which was made when DA2 was unveiled:

Chris Priestly wrote...

Dragon Age 2 is NOT released in August. There is a supercool trailer coming in August, but DA2 will NOT be out in August (somewhere I can hear Mike Laidlaw and teh Dev team having heart attacks thinking of
launching in a month).

The February date is a promise of something cool, but not necessarily the launch of DA2. You'll just have to wait and see what we come up with.

../../../images/forum/emoticons/devil.png

So yeah, I think the last time we were promised something cool it turned out to be the BioWare Bazaar. My expectations of 2/1/2011 actually being "cool" are nil.

But in looking back, you've got this episode of Game Trailers TV with Ray and Greg (skip to about the 17 minute mark) where they mention how they're working on 2 projects, one being DA2. Maybe the other is another expansion pack for Origins? Or are they already working on the 1st expack for DA2?  So, who knows what the future holds. I'm not getting my hopes up- nothing post release has lived up to the promise of Origins, IMO.

True. And with the seemingly much smaller budgets of DLC and expacks, I can't see them really tweaking the combat mechanics too much.

Spoken like a true Morrigan fan. I wouldn't mind seeing Morrigan's story continue, but unless there is some resolution to how she left the Warden before we (the players) see her again, I'll be sad and upset. I just don't want to see Morrigan turn up in DA2 with Hawke boning her as the stock Morrigan BioWare cooked up from Origins has conveniently forgotten all about the Warden.

What I'd be ok with would be maybe the Warden meets back up with her and their relationship is kind of like the Bhaalspawn and Jaheira's in the ToB epilogue- they weren't always together as they'd go off and adventure on their own at times, but they were never far apart- they always came back to each other in the end.

I'd be ok with that- I just don't want to see Morrigan or any other Origins companion show up in a future game like Wynne in Awakening where she isn't the Wynne you ended Origins with, but rather some carboard cutout Wynne created by BioWare. That just KILLS any immersion.

Oh and slight DA2 tangent, apparently, DA2 will indeed be at Gamescom next week (19-22nd)- with playable versions of the 360 AND PC version. Anyone in Germany next week?=]

Yeah Brock, I'm back to minding my manners.  I don't want to be an enabler in the cause of us getting this thread locked down.  I have been one of the guilty in using it as a personal advice forum (especially for other RPGs I'm playing) and have been ignoring Morrigan, merely accepting the reality of hopeless causes.  But we shall see I suppose.

Leliana's Song actually got me back into the swing of DA things.  It sort of goes without saying that the best DLC released would have a real Origins companion at the helm.

Heard about Gamescom as I was perusing the DA2 page.  Wish I was back in Germany!  Ah, Oktoberfest...but I digress...

HA!  Posted Image You know, DA and the Morrigan tragedy have been pretty good business for the shooter genre (well, at least as far as I am concerned).  I've put hundreds of hours into my beloved shooters over the past months, whether it be blowing Shanghai all to hell in AO2, TFD, clearing my way through a hoard of zombies in L4D2 with a baseball bat or venting my frustrations in a variety of multi-player venues.  Nothing quite like a little mindless shooter candy to soothe the myopic RPG soul.  Posted Image Man, I almost sound like a bro! Posted Image  If I said I despise the entire concept of DA2 does that cover me?

What is Morrigan up to in Orlasis I wonder.

Just got the ending where she has no OGB and went to Orlasis.

Did you romance her ?  If I recall correctly, you still get the "might have been with child" line if you romance her regardless of the DR.

That's part of what shooters are there for. Therapeutic release of frustrating events. Occasionally I'll pop in a sports game and just ride off the thrills of victory.

Grrrr....ergh.....http://social.biowar...index/4418934/1.......will.....not.......rant..........

Maybe for Off topic rants, we all go to the Morrigan group? Or just sally forth and wade into the morass of the DA2 forums.... But yeah, I'm not too fond of the prospect Hawke may run into our Wardens, among other revelations in that thread....*sigh*

So, about Morrigan in Orlais!? SHe goes west across the Frostbacks regardless. If you never had sex with her and turned down the DR she insinuates herself in the Court. Otherwise, if you have sex with her at all or do the DR with her, she'll end up preggers, albeit possibly with a normal child too.

I'm just disappointed we're not going to Orlais for the next game if only because I want to know whats going on with the Urthemiel Plateau and I'd love to see Kal Sharok...

I think the Morrigan group is the best place to flip out over this stuff, we should just make a new topic called rant about DA2.

Edit or maybe a custom group?

I am thinking they are purposefully dragging out any kind of continuation to Morrigan's story for the purpose of getting Morrigan fans to buy sequel after sequel and DLC after DLC looking for closure, only for there to be none.  They know people want it and they are going to milk it for every cent they can get.

That's exactly what they are doing.  The whole DR was such an outrage and so contrived, with your PC neutered of his character and any ability to function as he normally would, that one is left with only this conclusion.  It was not good writing (as in fulfilling and natural or even poignant) as many will contend.  It was designed with a single purpose: hook the primary gaming demographic into a franchise's sequels.  That is not good writing, it is strategic marketing writing.

You are correct sir.

FYI, in the interest of keeping this thread alive and on  the topic of all things Morrigan, I made a Rants and Disappointment thread in Quett's Morrigan group: http://social.biowar...iscussion/9930/

Have at it!

Thats my impression too. Sorry to say though that if they don't give the Warden closure with Morrigan before DA2 comes out- there are PLENTY of other good games coming out early next year that I'd be more than happy to spend my money on.

Is there a "THE DA2 Discussion and Research Thread" over at the DA2 Forum? If not, we ought to go ahead and create one an leave the Morrigan speculation for this one. Is there any violation, or even a way to interpret a violation, of the Forum Rules in creating such a thread?

Or do you think that the forum moderators would merely play Gestapo and shut someting like that down due to the inevitable cutting through the bone criticism that is sure to come? Just checking.

You're more than welcome to make one, but I just think with how rapidly everything moves in the DA2 forum and how many BioWare "fans" are over there, any such thread would get buried or locked rather quickly if it delved into negativity. It would no doubt be a lightning rod for "BioWare can do no wrong" trolls. Keeping the rants and such to a group like the Morrigan one is probably best as mods don't regulate the groups.

But go ahead- I'll rant away in it!

A rant mod is great, but I am not going into the DA2 side again.

Pretty much people pulling off a secretarial face plant over there.

No negativity allowed since Bioware and EA are gods, and Gaider their prophet.

I think there is already a Morrigan thread in the DA2 forums. Either way, we can talk about Morrigan + DA2 right here can't we? It's just the DA2 only rants that are a problem?

Just dont shift into DA2 totally or the Communist.. I mean the mods might lock us down.

They'd probably shut down a rant thread. The group Brock mentioned is probably safest.
