Blah who wants tragic endings.

I want to ride off into the sunset with my LI of choice, on an amazing horse.

Tragedy while sometimes awsome, and deep gets SO overdone.

Hopefully the Morri mance ends happily and not with some emo thing like the Warden dies in Morrigan's arms before she gets to really say "I love you" after they meet.

Tragedy especially in a video game is a tricky proposition too. Especially in something like DA where its all about player choice- more often than not, tragedy necessitates having some outside force (Plot Hammer) take away any choice.... like the Dark Ritual...

But that's very realistic. I know some people play to escape reality, but I play for different reasons. Sometimes, things should be out of our control. I don't want to feel like a god.

@ Giggles. Just reminded me of Starcraft 2's ending. Gaaah I hated it!!
Unbelievably cliche. It's just cheapening and all the badassness that eminated from Kerrigan from SC1 vanished faster than zerglings facing Colossi on steroids.

The Warden has gone through enough tragedy. While a tragic ending can be powerful, it can also be hard to pull off. Also, not all powerful endings have to be tragic.

Morrigan fans may be interested in seeing a mod recreation of the Revelation comic.  I made a video of it here.  It's probably not the most relevant to your games since it looks at the DR from the perspective of a femPC in love with Alistair, and the recycled dialogue is a bit rough, but I found the Morrigan parts quite moving.

Thanks!  The mod creator did the hard work.  From all I've heard, the cutscene animator is a b*tch on wheels.  I just like to promote good mods when I come across them.  I snicker evilly at all the "OMG why do I have a console" comments on my videos.

Most of my mod videos are Alistair-related, though.  One of these days I'd like to replay my Aedan game, this time with Morrigan Restoration Patch running from the get-go.

Thank you for the link Addai, but I think I'll wait until we get the version for Wardens who romanced Morrigan.

Couple of interesting DA2 Gamescom interviews with Melo and Laidlaw from the DA Wiki:
http://dragonage.wik...h_Fernando_Melo

http://dragonage.wik...th_Mike_Laidlaw

Some of the more Morrigan/Warden related tidbits:

From the interview with Melo:

Are there any plans for more DLC for Origins before Dragon Age 2?
Yes, we’re not finished with Dragon Age:Origins, there is more content coming, we’re going to have some more details very soon, actually. And then we’ll talk more about it when we get there

Will it bridge Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2?'
Not so much a bridging, I think it’s going to be more of an opportunity for people to close off some points that were left open in  Origins, it will be an opportunity for them to kind of go back and  revisit some places and find some characters they might want to have a final encounter with. We’re going to talk a bit more about it when we actually announce it, but I think people are going to be happy with this.

Morrigan romance DLC!? Satisfying closure at last!? Or just a giant boulder?<_<

I have lots of questions from the community about returning characters, especially Morrigan.
For now we can officially confirm only Flemeth. You will meet  other characters. The interesting part is that it’s not your Warden  character that will meet them. If you played Origins, you are going to  have a unique perspective on the characters you are going to see again,  but the fun is going to be in how your character, Hawke, interacts with  them. And the choices and changes you’re making in the world will have  an impact. But we’ll leave it for the players to see. Maybe we’ll talk  more about it closer to launch.

To me, thats precisely one reason amongst many why I'm not caring much for DA2- meeting old companions or old friends of teh Warden as Hawke, who is some stranger to them. I don't see it as that interesting but rather a fantastic immersion breaker. Meh.

In the trailer Hawke is using the weapon as a warrior and also  seems to be using blood magic, does that mean we'll see some sort of fusion of classes?
Very much like in Origins, you can customize Hawke as much as you want. You had a look at how the new ability tree looks. You can either go very broad, like in Origins, or customize the abilities, so it’s a  deeper system than in Origins. And a lot of that will influence what  Hawke can do. What I can say about the trailer is that a lot of it is,
of course, symbolic, showing what you can generally expect in the game.  There’s a lot of hidden things in there, and a lot of surprise.
Much  like with Varick’s stories, there’s an element of truth in what’s in  there, and it will be up to players to discover.

MorriClone Army confirmed? ;)

From the Laidlaw interview:

Why did you choose to introduce a new protagonist in Dragon Age 2 instead of continuing the story of the Warden?
We’ve always perceived Dragon Age as essentially the story of the world rather than any individual character. The characters that you  play are always going to be characters that have an impact on the world, but to me there is much more potential than just a single character.  And to be frank, quite a number of people have a Grey Warden that’s  dead, so that makes it a little complicated to continue the story. We  could have done that, we actually had ways of bringing the character  back, and so on, and so forth. But we decided it would be better to keep the focus on the environment, on the world, on the nations. And  certainly to honor and reference the stuff that you did in Origins, but  to tell that new chapter.

So, they could have brought the Warden back but thought a landmass was more "emotionally engaging." Wahoo.
Seems we can expect a revolving door of protagonists from here on out- don't bother getting too attached to Hawke...

We actually have a question here from one user about the possibility of Flemeth romance.
[Laughs] Well, I’d say that this would probably be an unlikely option.

No Flemeth romance... shucks:sick:

Kinda makes you wonder (or at least makes me wonder) what the point of buying a sequel would be. If it's going to be have different characters and different combat/development system why not buy a different game and get the bonus of exploring an entirely new world?

Seems to confirm the rumours about a Morrigan DLC coming out in September. As for the satisfying ending, that would depend on what each of us considers to be a satifying ending to the relationship between Warden and Morrigan.
Landlaw said that he expects Morrigan fans will be happy with what's in store for her so I take it Morri won't come to a bad end.
As for a possibility of a happy ending, that might be possible but I won't hold my breath until I see what they have in store for us.

Actually, I find that quite interesting. Imagine your old companions recounting Warden's adventures and achievements to Hawke and maybe having that influence his/her actions and goals. I rather like the idea that my Warden might have been an influence that shaped Hawke into what he/she ultimately bacame.

Heh, anything's possible right now.

I for one can't wait to find out what Flemeth's interest in Hawke is and what she's trying to accomplish. Makes me wonder if she'll be some kind of a mentor to Hawke or a companion? Maybe both.

I can understand the appeal of stories where you always play a different protagonist. However, they should really avoid leaving loose ends like Morrigan and DR if that's the road they plan to take.
Personally, I know I'll grow attached to Hawke just as I did to the Warden, so letting him go will be just as hard. I love to have a series of adventures with the same character and watch him/her grow and evolve over the course of it.

Can't see Flemeth really romancing anyone. I can see a scenario where she beds someone ala Morrigan in DR, but to truly love and care about another person? Not happening.

Thanks for the links Brock. Was an interesting read. :wizard:

I agree that the PC shouldn't be godlike and dictate everything to every character. I mean, I liked that Morrigan had her own plans and left-its just the way in which that scene was carried out and how its possible we'll never get resolution or any answers that bothers me. Tragedy can be very good, but you've got to handle it carefully and at least with the DR, I don't think BioWare handled that very well for anyone who romanced Morrigan- it felt contrived and forced, IMO.

Ha- not a fan of the sappy Kerrigan ending? I wonder how they'll work with that in the expansion pack....

Yeah the whole"very soon" bit makes me think it'll come in Spetember maybe. PAX is September 3-5th I think and DA2 will be there, so perhaps they'll announce it in the next 2 weeks? I just hope that if it is Morrigan DLC its actually high quality stuff and not the quality of most of the previous DLC which was clearly made on a tight budget. I'd easily pay more if it meant DLC the same quality as Origins.

Yeah, I guess that could go either way though. If Hawke meets up with old characters, but they look drastically different due to the art style, or end up being one size fits all generic versions like Wynne in Awakening, then thats an absolute waste, IMO. If the old companions actually act as if they knew your Warden and react as such, then that could be neat- but still, I'd have loved to have had the Warden with some of the old companions for actual character development. Oh well...

Yeah, moving on to new stories is fine. But its all about how closure is handled and as has been recounted here a million times, if you romanced Morrigan or did the DR, there is zero closure for the Warden and that sucks. Throne of Bhaal provided a great amount of closure and ended the Bhaalspawn's story such that while they were still alive and open to more adventures, their story felt properly concluded as there weren't any glaring loose ends.

Obviously with Origins, Morrigan is a gigantic loose end and one which if not dealt with by the Warden would greatly cheapen the whole Origins experience, IMO.

Damn, and i so much promised myself to never get excited about the DA franchise ever again. Hopefully thats no bogus and they talk aout something/someone very different.

If they keep their promise and all this dlc will be around Morrigan and will deliver wahat Melo said, i will happily call Origins done, apologize for all my rants and gladly move on to DA 2.

I so much promised myself i wouldn't, but now i am anxiously awaiting further news like a school boy again. Hopefully, this time without just gettin punished by the BW release truth :D

And hopefully, very soon is very soon and not in a month

Yeah, agreed.  It's almost like they've missed the point completely of what made Origins one of a kind.  The unvoiced Warden and HIS/HERS personal interaction with HIS/HERS companions.

I'm interested in DA2 if only for the fact of seeing the set of characters that are to be cast aside for DA3!

It would be interesting to know who or what conviced them that a piece of dirt was a better main character than a character of the player's own creation.  I'm sure it was purely a financial decision and an economy of developmental effort to streamline to the point of unrecognizeability.  This is a new game in my view.

Eh...you have far too much optimism for being a Morrigan fan. Even if they announce a Morrigan DLC, I'll expect a swift kick in the balls courtesy of Gaider and BioWare somehow...

What does everyone think a Morrigan DLC would look like? I mean, would it be a cheap thing or something more substantial like a mini expansion pack? Thats my hope- maybe a 4-5 hour, $15 mini-expack that gives the Warden closure for Morrigan and the whole DR thing from the Warden's POV...I just worry that any Morrigan DLC is going to disappoint somehow and possibly only make the DR scene look supremely satisfying in comparison, especially given how disappointing most of the post-release content for DA has been...

I think the same way. I would be willing to wait a little longer if BW needed time as long as they got good resoultion to Morri/Warden done. I suspect it will be before the DA2 deluge in Spring '11

Eh...you have far too much optimism for being a Morrigan fan. Even if they announce a Morrigan DLC, I'll expect a swift kick in the balls courtesy of Gaider and BioWare somehow...

lol.. indeed. You'll recognize a true Morrigan fan by his constant depression, always assuming the worst to happen ^_^

*beats chest*

Represent!

I must be a true Morriholic of Morrigan Nation then
