Just a heads up.... the review for Witch Hunt on gamespot has MASSIVE spoilers... do not read if you dont want to know what happens at the end of the dlc

I can handle spoilers.

Besides, spoilers save me from crap.

Nothing surprising really. Probably confirmed some suspicions I had, about how the DLC would play and several characters.

Anyone knows if someone modded the Black Swords from Elric saga into the game? There´s someone I want to kill more than dead.

Yeah, from the sounds of it, I'm going to have more questions than answers when the credits roll.

Totally off topic, but seeing as my current Cousland romancing Morrigan is a dual wielding warrior, they just said in the live stream there won't be Dual wielding warriors or archer in DA2- DW and Archer is limited to rogues...grrrr...

Warrior has just lost several levels in badass.

The more I listen to the livestreams and such the more I'm looking forward to whatever DA3 turns out as, since it seems they're saving all the good stuff for that (like Morrigan) and DA2 is just filler...

They've definitely hinted at the possibility of DA3 and these livestreams just add more to it. I'm thinking that perhaps DA2 is more of a scene-setter for DA3. It would definitely justify the drasitcally shorter gameplay hours and laidlaw hinting morrigans possible future involvement in the franchise. I really hope that they bring the warden back, even though at this point its a vague hope at best I'm still not willing to really accept Hawke so readily. I guess witchhunt will decide the fate of the Warden, and I think it would be awesome if they had sort of a cliffhanger ending that suggests the Warden being in DA3

Win of the week. I'm with Brock, Morrigan and the Warden's possible reappearance in DA3 has got me hopeful. Hell, who knows, maybe they'll go back to the Origins way of doing things in terms of convos and combat. You never know, Bioware's full of surprises. The proof is in the pudding, lets just say that DA2 turned out to be... well, the way it is so far.

They're gonna' have to do one amazing job of spin or explanation to justify bringing the Warden back for DA3. I think many people would see that as BioWare admitting a mistake.

If they want to close the first "arc" in 3 games, then it is mostly setup. Trilogies seem to just work like that.

What really worries me is the part about shorter than Origins but longer than Awakening. The first takes me almost 60 hours (with Story related DLCs), the second not even 16. Even if we do the media it´s still a much shorter game. If we add that Hawke speaks and conversations will take longer, it means even less time actually playing. I hope the shorter lenght is in order not to make the story too long artificially. ME2 suffered because of this.

Very good point- people complain about the filler combat in DAO, yet there is tons of filler in ME- planet scanning anyone? And just from watching the livestream today, it seems like at least 50% of what we saw was cutscenes.

For every interesting bit of story related DA2 news, the actual gameplay and design focus news moves my renthusiasm about 3 steps back. No more DW Warriors in addition to a likely 20-30 hour game, with no Morrigan, no Warden, limited continuity....It may be a fine game, I'm just not all that excited.

And as for the more exciting possibilities with DA3 and maybe the Warden- IF the Warden were ever to return, my guess is they'd add voice over. Sort of how EA is adding voice to Isaac Clarke in Dead Space 2 or how Activision gave Soap a voice in Modern Warfare 2. I doubt we'll ever get another BioWare game with a silent protagonist, which is a damn shame since IMO, it just makes things more like a movie and less like a damn game.

Also to note the devs on the Ustream have said "we wanted to make it more cinematic".

So for devs who said we arent ripping off ME2, why do they keep saying the same stuff as the ME devs?

That's one of the things I lacked - a DW Warrior. I was hoping someone from a future DLC could fill that for me, but I guess that won't be happening now. Not that it's really a big deal - I'm more of a story-driven person than gameplay driven. Sure gameplay's important, but not as important as story.

If the Warden was to return, that's a lot of VOs considering you can pick numerous voice sets for each gender and race. ... unless they'd change his voice...

That's really nothing new, BTW. I remember Wing Commander III feeling like a movie more often than not. IIRC that was also one of their marketing points. Can't remember how it went, though.

Only if they go full VO.  Partial VO where important events/scenes take place would make it easier to record multiple tracks.  Or they could simply make the Warden a man/woman of few words where companions dominate the discussions, which brings up the idea that Warden could become a companion also.

After watching the thing, I must say that my heart says that DA3 will be epic and focus heavily on the Old Gods and Morrigan and have the Warden as the protagonist. My brain says that everything Gaider just hinted at is empty words. But my brain's a downer, so screw him. I mean, it could totally work couldn't it? Assuming that the story would have a lot to do with the Old Gods (as Gaider hinted at with his amazing eyebrow dancing) the OGB could totally play a huge part (and for those that didn't do the DR, the OGB could potentially be replaced, or omitted all together). If the Warden came back (which Gaider hinted at again), the Old Gods have enough to do with Darkspawn that the Warden and his compadres would be forced to act (seeing as the fact that Gaider doesn't see how the Warden could thrive in a story setting that doesn't involve darspawn, although Wardens leave their duties left and right in the Awakening epilouge slides plus smart cookies such as Ximena and myself create stories with the Warden not dealing with darspawn all the time. But I'm getting off track). However, the possibility that the Warden would get full VO would REALLY blow. There are lots of reasons for this, like a shorter game, we have to accept this dude/chick's voice when it was whatever we wanted it to be in Origins etc. I'd be really happy that they were bringing him/her back, along with another reunion with Morrigan but VO would bog it down a lot.

That would be amazing. I'm disappointed that even in the livestream Gaider answered my question on if we'd learn more about the Old Gods in DA2 and he pretty much said not really but possibly later on.

Its just like all the stuff being hinted at for "later on" sounds a whole hell of lot more interesting than what we're getting in March. Its like they have Origins set up all this stuff with the Old Gods, Morrigan, the Wardens, hinting at Orlais and instead of naturally following through, they go in some totally opposite direction for no apparent reason.

We'll see how WItch Hunt plays out I guess. The DA2 news has me hot then cold. Chances are I'll get it to see the story but I doubt I'll enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed Origins given the lack of continuity and plethora of other design changes made to suit the consoles, like voiced PC and the new art style...meh.

That would truly suck. Romances are one thing that I think player VO absolutely sucks at. In ME its just creepy and voyeuristic. I hate player VO for many many reasons, but thats one amongst many. If they gave the Warden VO and brought Morrigan back it wouldn't feel like the Warden anymore and would just seem like some different character romancing Morrigan.

I agree with your second point, but the question is, would you grudgingly accept it knowing that it's the Warden, or would you rather pass? Warden VO is worst case scenario for me, and while I'd be skeptical like I am right now for DA2, the fact that it was the Warden would really help lessen that skepticism though.

As for your first point, I'm REALLY pissed off that the game isn't at least going to be in Orlais. Come on! They tempt us time and time again with Orlais. You find out a bit about it in Gaider's books, Leli raves about it, Loghain mentions it in Awakening, you can BE a damn Orlesian Warden, Arl Foreshadow and Leliana's song (which SHOULD have been in Orlais) even leaves a juicy tidbit with Tug's axe mentioning that the stone runs beneath Orlais. Come on Bioware, stop being such an Orlais tease! For all the talk about how they look at the forums, they must have missed the poll about where we wanted the next DA game to be. Ya, Orlais blew everything else out of the water. Posted Image

But on the Morrigan front, there's another Witch Hunt preview on everybody's favorite site! IGN! Lol, stay away if you guys don't want spoilers (no, I haven't read it either), but it's not like you guys were going to go there anyways Posted Image

 On WH previews
Read the gamespot one and went "meh" instantly. >__> Now I want to go make a page, but I have to work on uni stuff.
On DA3 and Orlais
Perhaps with a war brewing because of the events in DA2, Orlais has a heavy part to play in it being a powerful nation and all? (Plus it's the center of the Andrastian Chantry?) Maybe we get Orlais in DA3. And the warden

Fixed.

What? No more duel-wielding warriors?!?!? Wow, my warden is reallllyy dead now :(

I am also getting the impression that DA2 is simply to pass time between the story and introduce some very small points that may be important. It is rather frustrating because it seems like the Dragon Age story only really continues in DA3.... so what is the point of DA2?

No dual wielding for warriors kind of sucks. One of my favorite characters is my dual wielding dc with two axes. It is awesome from rp and pratical reasons for for my dwarf. Berserker with two axes is ownage.

As for Morrigan and the Warden coming back for DA3. Meh Morrigan probably, but the Warden is dead. VO for PC seems to be the direction BioWare wants to go with it's games, and the Warden is mute and has 12 different race/sex combos. Though I certainly would be pleased if they decided to scrap the VO, and go back to the silent/mute pc. I hate VO, but I guess that is the minority point of view. I don't blame BioWare for trying to make the most money possible, but going down the path of a VO was probably the dagger put into Origins' back, and ended any continuity that they had planned for it. As mentioned earlier in this thread this whole process seems like a reboot of the franchise.

All they would need in theory is a voice for a female and a male to make it work, not saying the voice will definately fit with the character then however.

Considering VO however, I agree completely with you... Prefer a mute character. I played ME and ME2 and didn't really mind it much there, but that's because you're basically playing a pre-set character. You are playing through a movie, not a inhabiting role imho. If I play DAO, I pretend the guy with the armor and shield entering Morrigan's tent cause she's cold is me, can't do that with Mass Effect though...
I also don't think we're a minority, every topic regarding VO's seemed to end at 50/50, but Bioware seems to have listening to the half who want a voice. Still think having an option to turn it on/off would be best! ;)

I just skimmed the gamespot WH preview and said it was 90minutes to 2 hours long then stopped reading as there are spoilers...

Edit: Ok, I just spoiled it..... I'm pissed, very very pissed.

We're getting Gaider'd again dammit.

No answers it seems and she runs away regardless.

If this preview is true, thats a hearty middle finger to every Morrigan fan out there. Seriously, I'll play this but if its as bad as that preview I'm done with BioWare.
