Mike.

I really liked the interview you gave to Victor Watcher about how Morrigan fans are going to be happy with what Witch Hunt has in store for them, but after reading the preview at Gamespot I have a feeling we're in for Dark Ritual 2.0.

I have faith that you and other folks at Bioware won't give us that same treatment once again, but from what was written it sounds more like we'll be walking away with a mother of all frustrations rather then a big smile...

Right now me and other Morrigan fans who romanced her are fervently praying that the article is wrong.

Shiori

Here's what Mike had to say on the subject:

Mike Laidlaw said...

Thankfully, we don't ever show all the possible endings to the press, so worry not.

I would have thought Gamespot would be professional enough to not lay out three paragraphs of spoiler, but apparently I was incorrect. As an ex-journalist myself, I am not pleased.

Not sure about you gys and gals, but it puts my mind at ease to know that maybe things won't be so doom and gloom.

Thats awesome Shiori- thanks for doing that. Hope levels slightly restored, I guess, although I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Hopefully the ending isn't as forced and cookie cutter as Gamespot made it seem. Although perhaps Laidlaw is just doing more damage control, like the whole iso view and no toolset issue. We'll see soon enough.

But its good to know that at least the whole spoiling of the DLC in a preview wasn't what BioWare wanted. Stupid Gamespot- just another shining example of gaming "journalism."

Nice job Shiori:wizard:

Gamespot uses journalists? I didn´t get that idea reading their articles.

I´m feeling a bit sorry for Mr. Laidlaw. Regardless of what happens in the end with WH, whenever something new is revelaed about this or DA2 he must do damage control the next few days. He´s better do the marketing himself from the beginning.

I'll say it right now, if the Warden can follow Morrigan through the mirror, that's more than enough closure for me currently. It's still incredibly open-ended, but it's damn near as happy as how that can end.

I personally have nothing against ME or Halo. I own them both, enjoy the hell out of them. I know what kinds of games they are, and I knew what to expect when I made the purchase. I'm cool with it. So you becoming a ME/Halo fan isn't the worst thing that can happen. Sometimes you just want to kick back and blow s*** up and not think.

^ This. I also owe a lot to Halo.

Anyways, REALLY? REALLY? From what I've been reading these last few pages that REALLY ****ing blows. I mean come on, more cliffhangers and bait for us to hope for and then get screwed over on? Here's hoping it's just Gamespot being Gamespot (it started sucking when Jeff left) but in all seriousness, WHY? Gaider himself said to cut the Morri fans some slack because they got no closure at all, seems to me this means he was only directing that quote to the forums, not to himself. Posted Image

I completely agree I'd take that over Morrigan disappearing and not being able to follower any day. At least maybe this time we can actually follower her rather than say we will and never really get around to it

Bingo.

I'd gladly take that ending and go merrily on my way with a smile on my face.:)

The IGN preview is waaaaay safer to read than the Gamespot one.

I think the most safe way is to not read any previews ;)

I'm currently at my first male playthrough for the DLC with that dude in the avatar there... and enjoy it very much. Morrigan was always BFF with my Fem!Wardens but it's nice to see the other side for once. Also that classical defrosting the ice queen thing? Me likes :D Truth be told, I even like her more now than I already did before. I'm looking forward to the DLC and avoid spoiler if possible. So no Gamespot article for me, heh. *goes back to lurk-mode*

Too true- I sadly lack any discipline when it comes to spoilers ;)

It's the more bankable hope of video game journalist's are nine times out of ten morons. I can never forget the makers of Enchanted Arms just rifling into them because they graded the entire game on the freaking one-hour tutorial before the real game started.

Ok, if Laidlaw is to give us any hope at all with what he said, I'll indulge in some hope for what I'd consider a very nice "happy" ending for Morrigan and the Warden.

=======================================================================
Have it be such that it seems like Morrigan is going to ditch the Warden, only for the Warden to go all hopeless romantic on her, give her one last nice, passionate kiss, then they both go off into the mirror together, only right as they're about to step through, they look at each other, Morrigan gives a reassuring nod or something, and they hold hands as they step through- the end.

Horribly sappy? Maybe- but dammit it would make up for the crappy DR ending in spades.
=========================================================================

But one other question I hope gets answered- In the Dalish Origin its mentioned that the "eluvian" (think thats what the mirrors are called) can become tainted. Will they explain that the one Morrigan found is untainted or will that fact be explained in such a way that it somehow provides a plot mechanic as to why the Warden cannot follow her through the mirror?

I do not see how it could be a plot mechanic for the Warden to not follow her since the Warden is already tainted.  If I recall correctly, in the Dalish Origin, the Joining ritual saved the life of the Dalish PC or rather prolonged it.  Why Morrigan can touch the mirror without ramifications is of more interest to me, but that will probably be swept under the rug.

Magic can be used to have taint inmunity, as seen in the Calling with Maric. Also to accelerate it, and to eliminate it (or at least prevent the calling (that last was a side effect and it´s not yet known how it can be replicated).

Right- its freakin' magic. If they want some excuse for the Warden not to be able to follow somehow they could say that the Warden's taint does X,Y or Z with the mirror causing him not to be able to go through or it will taint Morrigan or something contrived like that.

So yeah, I'm guessing this is an untainted mirror or something and thats why Morrigan can mess around with it. But if its in the Dragon Bone Wastes, you'd think it would have been tainted by all the darkspawn there from Awakening...

I think after Witch Hunt I'm gonna' do one more run of DAO (which is probably gonna' be heavily affected by my XP from WH) and call that my DA canon and my DA2 save.

How interested I'll be in DA2 is going to hugely depend on how Witch Hunt turns out...:crying:

Ehhh, I'm seeing DA2 as its own entity. If I hear more unfavorable news about it and whatnot I may pass on it, but I'm not lumping DA2 with WH. WH will affect who the Warden's woman's gonna' be, Anora or Morrigan, but DA2 is still too early to call.

Exactly, own entity as in not a proper sequal. Despite the hope that Laidlaw gave us, it technically still is a DR 2.0, I mean the cryptic Morrigan that doesn't give us answers is a disappointment. We don't get the conflicted one, just the one that wants to be Kreia. Speaking of which, I'm suddenly in the mood to play KOTOR 2 Posted Image Man I love that game, plot holes and all.
