Hey everyone, I have a question/possible favor to ask you, and whoever can help me will be awesome forever.

I mentioned many pages back after one of my discussion prompts that I was going to write a parody of the first ring conversation, when Morrigan gives you the ring. Fortunately on my current playthrough, I got to that point, and was able to look at the conversation in the codex later... however something has seriously weirded me out during the conversation..

I could have sword with my male city elf, my first playthrough, that when Morrigan presents the ring, the warden can ask "So does this mean we're married now?"  I honestly don't think I'm going crazy or freaking out, but I SAW this line as an option, I swear it! This time around, I didn't see that option at all.

Can anyone tell me whether this is a dialogue option for the Warden in the ring conversation or not?

Also, if possible, if anyone (most likely a PC user) has the toolset, can they show me the dialogue for getting the ring? Because I've searched for references all over the net and couldn't find it anywhere.

My joke could either be ruined or not depending on whether this line is an option. Rather stupid I know, but I'm really hoping I can go through with this parody.

Anyway, ANY detailed help would be appreciated :D

That actually is a dialog choice for both Alistair and Zevran when they give their gifts.  The exact line is Alistair, and a similar one is the first time Zevran offers the earring (ironically, it's the second time he offers it that it can be taken as a proposal).

Looking in morrigan_main.dlg, there are no hits for "married" or "marry" in a romance conversation, and definitely not in the ring conversation.  But, gah, there IS something pretty amazing about that conversation.

you might be thinking of the conversation regarding the ring in WH with Ariane. One of the choices there is regarding marriage.

Damnit... REALLY? So I was going crazy and imagining an Alistair romance response as a Morrigan romance response??

I is sad... my joke won't be as epic now... :crying:

Maybe I'll still try it, I don't know... but you know how certain jokes are... its all in the setup...

(though it isn't said, Morrigan implies thats what you think after she says its a ring. I like that line, too)

thank you, though, ejoslin... you are officially awesome forever for helping me in this :)

Well, I knew of that conversation already because Ariane says very different things, such as bluntly stating the implication for you. Also, I had this strong feeling months ago, before witch hunt.

sometimes I just get mixed up with things...

I think Terra's right- I don't think marrage is explicitly brought up in the ring conversaton.

Just skimmed through the toolset and don't see any explicit line about marriage. Morrigan alludes to it at some points- just some quotes:

Morrigan: 'Tis a ring. Now, before you get any foolish notions, let me explain.

*snip*

Warden: It's a sweet gift. Thank you.
Morrigan: 'Tis not given out of sentimentality. I believe you are too important to risk. If you were captured, this ring would allow the rest of us to find you quickly. (VO note: rolls her eyes at the idea it might be sentimentality- no way!)

Warden: So you're giving it to me purely out of practicality?
Morrigan: I... have no desire to see us part company so soon. Not unless we wish to, that is. (VO note: awkward)
Morrigan: Do not read more into it than is there. You have supplied me with equipment, certainly this is not so very different, is it? (VO note: defensive)

Warden: Thank you for the gift.
Morrigan: You... are welcome. Perhaps it will be useful some day. (VO note: awkward--she's uncomfortable with sentiment)

can anyone pull up the quote right after she says its a ring?

Don't worry, I'm not disputing the answers I've gotten. I just want to see that line again because I like it, she says something about "foolish notions"

Thats probably the line where she suspects the Warden is jumping to conclusions, and I like that moment. (and yes I'm too lazy to just turn on my 360 and load up my game so I can see it again :P)

No, Morri never brings up marriage, even if you try and press her for more info in that conversation.

When Arianne mentions how ring signifies marriage in a lot of cultures you never have the option of saying that you're married to Morrigan. You can say a bunch of stuff here but it all comes down to Morrigan not wanting to tie herself to anyone by formal ceremony.

I believe that the only remark about marriage that comes from Morrigan is when she is jealous if the Warden is in a close relationship with Lelliana, she tells the warden that she is acting like the "possesive wife" and that it is as unpleasant for her as it would surely be as unpleasant for the Warden.

She also makes a comment about marriage if you talk to her about your relationship and ask where it's going.

Then, there's also her banter with Oghren where he suggests that she land herself a husband...

Shiori, thank you for curbing my laziness (and actual obligations to buy stuff I needed preventing me from looking myself). This was the exact quote I needed from my most recent post. You're awesome forever, too :D

You know, I think Morrigan's quote above might work... I'll try writing my parody of this scene that I mentioned earlier in the thread. If anyone is interested, I'll let you know my progress. Its just going to be a really short one-shot.

Aha. I can't remember that other implied marriage dialogue exactly, but wasn't it like "Shall will live in the countryside? You paint the shed while I bake the bread?" XD

*Bake not break. Lol. sorry. Tired from running around from room to room shooting interiors all day. XD

Isn't that the one where you ask where the relationship is going, and she basically goads the Warden into bed.

Marriage is brought up in Witch Hunt. It happened with my male warden going to the temple. Ariana stopped and said something like "you sure play with that ring a lot, are you and Morrigan.." and one of your choice options is "no... we're not married."

There are a couple variations on that conversation, with some interesting VO notes in the toolset:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warden: We need to discuss us.

Morrigan: Discuss away.

Warden:
We've never talked about our nights together.

Morrigan: What is there to speak of? Chuckles Do you wish me to tell you how wonderful you are? Shall I say you are virile and manly?

Warden:
I just want to know where this is going.

Morrigan:
An odd question, is it not? What do you foresee? Marriage? Children? Shall we settle in the countryside, you paint the shed while I bake the bread? (VO note: sarcasm)

Warden: And what's so terrible about that?

Morrigan: Laughs Are you truly serious? (VO note: incredulous-- but also disconcerted, as the idea of the player being serious appeals more than she is comfortable with)

Morrigan: Enough. I do not...I have no patience for this sort of blather. If you wish to know something specific, I would prefer you ask it. Otherwise leave me be. (VO note: uncomfortable and awkward, she is annoyed she has developed feelings for the player)

Warden: I don't know, what do you want?

Morrigan:
What do I want? I... (VO note: Taken off guard, she wasn't expecting this)

Morrigan: You are a rather curious and frustrating man. Is what you already possess not enough? Must you always want more? (VO note: covering up her feelings by turning angry)

Morrigan: Enough. I grow tired of this topic. Let us speak of it another time. (weary and dismissive)

Warden: Do you really think I want those things?

Morrigan: Do you have something else in mind? You are the one who asked the question, as if there were somewhere for us to go. (VO note: annoyed)

Warden: If you don't want any of those things, then fine.

Morrigan: I did not say that, precisely. I... no, never mind. (VO note: almost talks about her feelings, but gets mad at herself and changes her mind)

It sounds like Morrigan is REALLY conditioned by Flemeth.

The idea about love and happiness exist in her, and she almost can grab it, Then the lessons and life she had takes over again and tries to push back against her. Almost sounds like Morrigan is deeply conflicted.

At the end of witch hunt I noticed (with my Havelock Vetinari Mage) that Morrigan overcomes this when she lets the Warden come with her into Mirror Land.

Even in Witch Hunt, Morrigan was still confused with her feelings. Her duty to raise the child comes above everything else, but there she was, delaying her journey because she sensed the warden. Her comment about the ring makes me think that perhaps she thought the warden would just throw it [and her] away after her departure. But nooo. The romancing warden keeps it. XD And perhaps she is surprised by the [romancing] warden's seemingly unending desire to be with her.

Though I find it funny how easily she lets the warden go with her. (Funnier if she was hostile. XD)

Flemeth broke Morrigan with the mirror incident. As that girl, she was still that hopeful human who knows that there is love and happiness in the world. But yeah, Flemeth shoves it in her face that those things are not valuable. Flemeth indoctrinated Morrigan to do what she needs Morrigan to do.

But I somehow wonder if Flemeth knew Morrigan would turn against her because of that comment about her wondering (or was it being interested?) what Morrigan would do outside the wilds.

I forgot the exact quotes, but the answer to your question lies in the Grimoire quest, where you meet Flemeth a final time. Flemeth seems to know what is going on already.

She says "At last, Morrigan has found someone to dance to her tune" (paraphrased from the actual quote, I know). Flemeth's upfrontness with that line and the line that follows showed to me at least that she was waiting for the Warden's arrival with the knowledge of how Flemeth extends her life, and that she knew the Warden was set on by Morrigan.

Flemeth later asks the Warden if he/she will try to kill her or whether "the story will take a different turn"

This implied to me that Flemeth has played this game each time she possessed one of her daughters. Perhaps other daughters found out, and had someone try to slay Flemeth for them, only to prove unsuccessful and for each of those daughters to be helpless and eventually possessed. More of a theory, but it seems like Flemeth has had enough experience with this scenario and has seen each time that a daughter's champion chose to fight rather than make a deal with Flemeth.

True, I'm more reading between the lines than showing clear statements about Flemeth's knowledge of this, but I think its pretty solid evidence that Flemeth knew Morrigan would eventually discover and fight back indirectly.

@Brock: Thank you, sirrah.

Damn I'm good, didn't even need the toolset. I dont' think I ever got that dialogue, now I gotta try for it in a NEW replay. Ugh. But no gaming it... no feast day gifts... no buying every gift i find in shops (save for Mirror). Gonna play it pure RP, just straight. Create a character and let the Origin choices define them. Gonna go Dalish for this one,  just talking but what the damn Dalish Warden would say and react, so that means no romancing Leliana on the side and no leading Zev on by accidental choices, just NO is NO.

Its kind of like a reverse version of what the Amish do with their kids when they hit that age of adulthood where they get sent out for 2 years or so to decide if they want to return home or stay in the outside world.

In the end Morrigan got to see most of Ferelden, then takes her ass/pregnant ass/ogb pregnant ass to Orlais to see the Ocean. Thats what really stuck out with me from what she wanted by going with the Warden on the quest against the Blight. She wanted to see the World before she... had to to what she had to do.

When it comes down to it this was her time to be "her own woman" free of Flemeth. She was lied to by Flemeth that her "grimoire" was taken by the Templars. She is too crafty for that as they jacked her fake ass book with just random arcane knowledge... the plan to steal daughter bodies. For all we know that Grimoire was an instruction manual for her other daughters that she originally raised up... how they could continue to live and follow her plans. While her real Grimoire revealed what Flemeth truly was up to and what she was.

I figure Morrigan was just one piece, the womb for the future ruler of Thedas. The Earthbound God-king of Thedas, that would be Flemeth's revenge on the world her flesh and blood enmeshed with the power of an old god to rule over it all. Or hell maybe she plans on jumping into the grown child's body to rule... or... ugh... become his Queen. Eww.
