Welly welly welly, just ordered a whole set of the damn DAO figures from the bioware store since Amazon diappointed my ass. Plus the free t-shirt totally offsets the cost of the shipping charge essentially giving me a better deal than just order Duncan, Morrigan, and Loghain off of Amazon.

So come my birthday I'll already have my Morrigan and thus be supremely happy. Then shortly afterwards DA2 comes out.

Congrats Esbatty!!

Be sure to take pictures and upload them here. :D

Christmas Week I'm gonna go a customizing binge and make Alistair, Vann Cousland, and Leliana now that I no longer have to make a Morrigan. Normally a custom figure takes me about 8 to 10 hours to do but all the damn armor I've gonna have to sculpt is gonna make it really difficult. PLUS, if I'm not passed out from holiday punch or fumes from the paint and glue I"ll ATTEMPT a DA2 Flemeth. She just looks too damn fun not to try. I already have ideas on how to use some Porcelain Clay and  some wire armature to do the horn up without off balancing the base body.

You're asking me to take your word over hard evidence. To do so would be illogical. It's just not my way. Oghren was in Awakening, but he's far from a favorite character. So to me, that really doesn't mean anything.

I didn't mean to start a debate over the matter, I was only pointing out something as I saw it. For that, I deeply apologize. Let's just drop it and move on.

Err, why would you need to apologize?

We're just discussing things and sharing opinions.

But if you feel like not talking about it then let's move on.

I will forever love the Dog conversation with Morrigan. I use no other line with my Male Wardens than the "So that means you'll have to go without?" My question is, does she not truly understand implied idea? Or rather she doesn't care for it?

Edric, Vann, Arcturus and even Anthon and all the Male Wardens who romanced Morrigan in their own story are one lucky buggers.

I have such a love/hate relationship with the Morri thread, such an insidious feeling of pessimism grips me whenever I visit... I really should stay away, it's better for my sanity.
Brockololly wrote...
Nice find on those old Gaider quotes. I'd hope they have the DR and MOrigan's story as the maybe one thing that gets genuine continuity or divergence going forward. I 'm just really curious how much continuity will be in DA2 even though. Or the recently announced ME3 for that matter... (which plot wise sounds just like Origins- "gather your armies!")
Having divergence in that thread is something of a no-brainer in my mind given how it's so easy to play to the strengths of choice/consequences, we'll see how that fits in with BioWare's apparent fear of creating content that some players *might* not see (to which I immediately think of Witcher 2, another choice/reaction driven franchise that is definitely embracing that grounding). I would have thought that if you're striving for a no-canon, choices matter game/franchise, creating content that caters for specific choices is inescapable and imo it strengthens the franchise as a whole. Thinking about it I'd probably rather have a shorter game that was highly reactive to choices than a longer one with lots of one size fits all moments.
Brockololly wrote...
I've been reading up on Deus Ex: Human Revolution of late, and that looks very nice. The devs for it aren't shying away from the original's roots or trying to bury things (hooray for grid inventory!). And its apparently going to use DX11 on the PC, have better AI for the PC and have its own UI and all that. Oh, and its coming out the same day as DA2. Then you've got Shogun 2 a week later. If DA2 doesn't start showing something I may happily forget about it until a Steam sale rolls around.  And the of course you have the Witcher 2 in May.

Not to go too far off topic, but the more I think of it, the more DA2 reminds me of Invisible War, Deus Ex's sequel- both games are sequels to a praised original, with both sequels being designed for the consoles and seemingly being "streamlined" with RPG features being shaved down. Invisible War wasn't terrible, but it certainly didn't live up to the original. WIll that be DA2?
Deus Ex was a truly defining moment in gaming, I really should play it through again someday. I thought I read that Human Revolution would be closer to Invisible War than the original but recent previews indicate otherwise, which is certainly a good thing. The trailer does look very pretty but more importantly both the engine graphics and gameplay really look top notch. Totally agree regarding Invisible War though, it was designed as a console game first, disappointed fans and ultimately the game  experience as a whole paid the price for it. Though there are plenty of console titles I'm looking forward to in 2011 too.
Brockololly wrote...
Right- they likely made the DLC they thought would rake in the $$$ too. And given the big mystery surrounding Morrigan, saw that as a good cash in no doubt. ANd it does provide some measure of closure that was sorely lacking if you romanced Morrigan in Origins....closure at least until she turns up again, sans Warden.
I should make a .txt file with some copy/paste responses regarding the reappearance of Morri and the warden. Short version: I concur.
Brockololly wrote...
Yeah, who knows what they maybe originally had planned with their whole 2 years of DL shtick they gave up on because of Hawke's button pressing awesomeness? Not that the DLC was anything to write home about, but maybe the concurrent work on DA2 was affecting the DLC quality?
Oh I think it was definitely a factor, as we've discussed previously it could have been so much more but it did condense a fair amount of Morri-romance stuff into a short amount of time. I suppose if we hadn't got WH, the original DR bs problem would remain, but WH has pretty much just given us a new problem to worry and b*tch about... Though given the Awakening epilogue, we'd probably still be complaining about the same thing when Morrigan returns since they both involve the warden chasing Morri, WH just seals the deal. A final point on quality - how that bug slipped through the net is truly beyond me.
Brockololly wrote...
Thats the thing really- the Bros we may be irritated with for having BioWare cater to with the direction of DA2 are likely the same people who, if they played Origins, saw Morrigan and had the lightbulb go off in their head when they saw Morrigan and went "BOOBS!" and romanced her. I wouldn't doubt it anyway if thats why she ended up being the most romanced character.

...

Right- and I'd wager that unless another traditionally attractive female companion comes along in DA2, Isabela, with her boobs which are as big as her head and no pants wearing ways, will wind up being the most romanced companion in DA2. I'd guess Morrigan and Alistair's popularity is also in part due to their introduction early in the game and then their plot relevance in the game too.
I look for something more from my characters tbh and it's Morrigan's persona that draws me in rather than her attire but I shall refrain from extrapolating further than that. The very first voiced reveal for DA2 has Isabela offering herself to Hawke, so yeah you're probably right... Apparently they did a similar thing with Morrigan before DA:O's release, but I deliberately wasn't following Origins (didn't even know Morri existed till I played the game and iirc I didn't see the trailers till after I'd played the game.) Isabela's not doing anything for me atm I'm afraid, but then again, none of the characters are at this stage due to lack of info and I'd rather wait till I play the game than have it spoiled.
Brockololly wrote...
Of course I'd be curious to know how many completed her romance though too as opposed to simply sleeping with her.
Well some genius decided to tie the romance acheivements up with the sex scenes rather than the actual endings of the various romances, which is pretty significant for a character like Morrigan. I think those that play for the acheivements/trophies are missing the point really - it's really not a reliable way to gauge completion of any aspect of a game since they can attached to completely arbitrary events.
ximena wrote...
Morri has a lot of fans (and a lot of people who want to know what happens with her story). Her fanbase isn't just as vocal as Zev's and Al's when it comes to fanworks. xD

I've been trying to generate a whole lot of Morri fanworks through the club at dA. But people just don't reply. Hahaha.

I guess I gotta work harder? xD
I've seen the same thing in many other fandoms - a sort of silent audience, including those that I used to write fics for, though in my experience publishing a fic centering on the "underdog" tended to draw out a sizeable response (to the point where it eclipsed other fics catering to the "more vocal groups"). I think the audience is definitely there, even if they aren't filling the net with white noise. Of course the vast majority of the audience for DA is silent when you look at the sales figures.
ximena wrote...
The thing with Morri is there are a lot of people who go after her because yeah... "BOOBS!" A number of those people just want the achievement or want to try their PCs have some tent time with Morri. But once Morri pulls out her cold shoulder on the PC, these kind of players dump Morrigan for Leliana.

These players miss a lot though. Since the memorable sequences with Morri needs some patient digging.
Their loss. That's one of the things that makes the Morrigan romance so awesome. There's some amusement to be found by searching various boards for "Morrigan refuses tent WTF". Though admittedly, when it first happened (since I'd exhausted her dialogue options at the time) I was concerned it was a bug.
LTS_Guitarian wrote...
The kiss at the end of WH was nice.  But that was the only part about it that I liked.  Morrigan seemed happier to see the dog than she did to see the Warden (or was I the only one who noticed that?).  The last dialogue was total garbage.  "Why did you betray me?"  Seriously?  That was the last thing I wanted to ask her.
Well the relationship between Morrigan and the Warden is more complex than between her and Dog, plenty of mixed emotions for both parties plus you've got Morri's propensity to stave off feelings of love. I certainly agree there should have been more options available in the last conversation but I guarantee you there will have been a very strict line limit on Morri's dialogue for a bite size DLC.
LTS_Guitarian wrote...
"Yes, for most people it was better than nothing.  But it just pissed me off even more.  WH came across as nothing more than a half-hearted attempt to shut people up.  Considering we already knew about the plot lines for DA2 by the time WH was released, I think ,and understandably so, many of us expected more.
Well, like Barbarossa has touched upon this is one of the reasons I find myself drifting back to other series, it's difficult to justify investing 80hrs~ to then be faced with "we're promising nothing" from the devs. I simply get a more satisfactory experience from a less ambitious product that at least fulfils its stated goals and doesn't create expectations in the closing moments. I can get on board with DA2 focusing on something else on the proviso it's setting the stage for future plotlines, one of which being Morrigan's. Like most here, I want to see the conclusion of Morrigan's story but for it work for me it is essential that the DR and WH choices play a major part in it. Codex write offs or similar bs will simply not be good enough.

I'm not really too fussed about WH as far as the romance conclusion goes because you can't really get full closure on that until both warden and morrigan are written out of the story completely, so WH will only ever give stopgap closure. The mirror ending is more about the warden sealing his fate alongside Morrigan in whatever trials she is yet to face, on a metagaming level it's all about ensuring the warden is there to assist Morrigan in the future, as I see it the ending blends the romance and continuing plot thread into one and the same. BioWare wants to tout choices being important and shaping the world and characters, I want to hold them to that.
Esbatty wrote...
I skipped the betrayal line on my Vann playthroughs, personally.
I did the same for my canon playthrough, if it doesn't fit, I don't select it :)
Lord_Anthonior wrote...
What I also liked compared to the rest of the characters, is that Morrigan as far as I know is the ONLY one whose story and participation isn't over (IMO she is more important than the rest), she has much influence with or without the warden (though I would hope for with the warden) and it pleased me that I can enjoy more the game because I had a relationship with Morrigan, a character who will continue in the future of the games.
The fact that Morri's story continues is both fantastic and extremely aggravating, for reasons discussed at length...

Hey! I happen to like Isabela. :crying:

Granted, I liked her way back in Origins and actualy thought she would be the elusive final companion (sadly, it was not to be), so I'm quite happy to have her back in DA2.

Her, my female Hawke and Varric are going to have so much fun. :o

Alistair has that "glad its not me" look on his face. And Lel is just all wishy-washy. While Dog is waiting for them to cut the cake... or maybe he already got there first.

And of course dog has already had his cake.  See his bib :innocent:?

Aww, now I want to write a scene with Dog romping about the Castle in Denerim much to Erlina's chagrin.

...

HOLY CRAP now I can write the next interlude, and how to bring in *SNIP story spoilers* again.

I just hope that whenever Morrigan comes back, assuming they'll end up Hot Rod Samurai'ing her up, that mods exist to at least try and give her back her Origins face.

And a quick bit of Morrigan art!

That would be important for all of us who wants to keep her the same way, still...I think I'm willing to wait how she would look in the future after some time have passed, maybe she could look even better! (it could be possible), and if she looks less good compared to origins then the changing mods are well deserved. Kinda like a good back up plan

I did saw that picture before, there is a youtube video of the complete "love song", with shuffled images of Leliana, an Elven warden and mostly of Morrigan, this image included. Is that language, Polish or Chech probably from a magazzine article, maybe during or before Origins was being relased.

Well, I'm more wondering not so much if they age her and have her look different that way, but more in line of the fact that they redid the entire face morph system for DA2, so they can't make her look exactly the same now even if an insignificant amount of time passes between DA2 and her next appearance. I'd hate it if they did an Isabela on her or just messed with her face much at all compared to how it was in Origins simply due to the new face morph system. That lack of visual continuity kills me.
