I dont think she leaves the gift behind if you go with her,but rather simply gives it to the warden once theyre beyond the eluvian?Or if she does, then one would assume she is able to tell the warden whatever information is in the book personally and as such has no need for the book, otherwise simply abandoning the book wouldnt make much sence if she believes it would be of use to the warden imo.
...But then again, this is the wh Morrigan who allowed the potentially hostile warden get close enough to stab her so who knows
I agree about the gift having something to do with the taint...Although I cant quite shake the nasty feeling that whenever Morrigan does her comeback we get something like the warden having died from the taint <-<
Well that's another possibility, in THAT path if romanced and going with her through the Eluvian she could have kept the book instead of leaving it behind and handling it over to the Warden after crossing the Eluvian or leaving the book behind and stil she could have told him about it, so yeah, that's another theory that sounds possible.
I didn't played the version of staying behind, I saw that in youtube and the video I saw was of parting ways peacefully and collecting the book and leaving the dragonbones wastes with Morrigan taking a last sad look before walking through the eluvian.

So basically it's a choice between either life or love?
It wouldn't be the first time that a choice regarding Morrigan would be between life or love though for the ones who romanced her it was easy because it was chosen life and love instead of dying or let others take the credit of slaying the archdemon. But it could be a matter of those two choices.
It's just something I thought about it regarding the book's importance and interest for the Warden, other than that...what else could be of interest for the Warden than saving his life from the taint or a way to effectively kill Flemeth? For Morrigan said "hunt her instead" .
