I know what you mean. It gets even more depressing later when you finish the game and you realize she left... must be the coronation music.
It really changes the whole tone of the game for me. If I had started out playing a male character, I might not have re-played as much as I have. My mCousland did tell Morrigan that he would find her, but I'm not sure whether he will or not. Besides the fact that he's heartbroken, he's also too much of a gentleman not to take "no" for an answer. I think he will make efforts to find her, though, if only to ensure that she is safe.
My husband tells me that I did it all wrong and should have had him marry Anora and keep Leliana on the side. Which to my ears is like saying "marry the hurlock and sleep with the creepy zealot bard lady." Not much more promising an option.

I think male players got screwed. And then the female NPCs in Awakening are not much better in terms of romanceability.
As far as the actual DR scene, I can understand Morrigan's coolness. She is trying to keep it together because she's got her eyes on her duty. What I am disappointed with is the flatness of the dialogue choices the PC is given. I didn't try the route where you tell her no and she suggests Alistair, though. I might go back and see what that is like. As it is, from the PC side it didn't feel much different than a female PC agreeing or not agreeing to the ritual. There was no option for Aedan to say "you are tearing me apart."
