Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! What the hell. Morrigan really let herself go after having the godbaby.  Holy sh*t. *Washes eyes*[/quote]

That has to be a very rough model. Doesn't capture the spirit of the Original Morrigan. More like her peeved cousin.

BioWare seriously was actually going to have Morrigan show up looking like this!?!?

I'm not seeing a problem. As a dismal failure to capture the original's features this morph seems to be in good company alongside the litany of shortcomings in BW's latest masterpiece, thus not breaking from the cohesive vision of the DA franchise. Something of a masterpiece all things considered.
And the homage to Laidlaw hit the spot as well Brock [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wizard.png[/smilie]

Well, its like Gaider said in this thread regarding how Alistair looked like a trainwreck with the new and "improved" facemorph system:

David Gaider wrote...

PanosSmirnakos wrote...
A better question would be... What the designer of Alistair's face was thinking / drinking? How much time did he spend doing it? Seriously.

Possibly she was trying too hard to get the face morph to look as close as it possibly could, even though the system wasn't designed to make faces much like Origins', and should have known that even the slightest difference would be picked apart and declared hideous. So she probably needn't have tried as hard as she did.

I thought it looked fine.

Ok, if you have any intention of bringing returning characters back, and you're not going to drastically change the graphics into a stylized form or something, but keep them semi-realistic, why in the world wouldn't you be sure that when overhauling the facemorph system you can accurately recreate the faces of existing characters?

That just seems incredibly stupid- it would be one thing if the new system had drastically better faces, but its barely an improvement at all. That Morrigan morph sums up most everything wrong with the new facemorph system-

- Bloated face? Check
- Bulbous nose? Check
- Sickly, plastic, pastey looking skin? Check.
- Inability to have lower lip larger than upper lip, resulting in trout lip look? Check
- Lighting that makes characters look terrible? Check.
- Identical chin/jawline as every other DA2 character? Check

But hell, DA2 provides for a better foundation for the future and they really made things look "super hot" so we should just all be grateful right? If they don't overhaul the facemorph system again and actually make the people look like people again and not Mr. PotatoHead dolls, that'll be another reason to not bother with any future DA stuff.

I hate to be the one to do this (not really), but let's compare

They actually look like people. Yes, TW2 had a glaring flaw of having little to no facial expressions, which really hurt the believability of characters. But in terms of looks, it's just incomparable.

I mean Sile here (2nd pic) looks more like Morrigan than this piece of condensed rubish.

You know I use to pick at the Origins morphs, say this was too high or too low, but Origin's face morph system was about a million years ahead of DA2's. I can't buy a single character from DA2 being an actual person, they all look like cartoons and crappy ones at that. Every single character is a fish lipped, fat faced, freak with the worst makeup ever and pipe cleaners attached to their face to simulate eyebrows. I'm glad I ditched the DA2 modding community within the first month, there isn't any hope of saving this abomination regardless of a toolset.

See, I knew you'd come around to the improvements eventually. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie] I think with DA2 its pretty much sealed its own fate, DA3 will be under considerably more scrutiny by gamers after the embarrassments in 2 and BW would need a considerably longer dev cycle to produce the kind of quality their older titles embodied. If Deus Ex & Skyrim both deliver in similar ways to W2 I see little reason to retain much interest/hope here given that we know the expected course the leads will chart for DA3, the company wide mantra of making things "accessible" which seems to have been extended to ME3 with the news on gameplay revisions has me concerned as well. Oh well...

I was wondering how long it'd take for the Morri thread to begin the transition to the Triss thread. Agreed for the most part on W2 facial expressions, if you've played it LA Noire's facial tech seems to be pretty good in this regard, the difference is fairly striking in that game when compared to others so maybe we'll see other devs adopting the tech in the future.

Well hell, they should have had Fat Morrigan in Witch Hunt then considering she's already had the OGB at that point.

It'd be hillarious if they actually did that, and put that head on top of the "fat villager woman" body DAO has, to boot Posted Image

I think somebody made a Fat Morrigan mod for Origins but it looked like more like an NFL linebacker. Scary stuff either way

Eh, I hate to be the one to say this (meh, not really, I love dissing The Witcher), but those TW2 faces don't look good at all to me.

And really, while that Morrigan face is an abomination, there were plenty of good looking characters in DA2.

Finally, I like to think that just like BlackBaron said, that Morrigan morph was a rough first try that was abandoned since she wasn't gonna be in the game. Mind you, even as a rough first try it's still very bad, but I like to think it wouldn't have been that horrible.

Oops, sorry to infect the Morri thread with a positive thought. :P

I just wonder why it's in the game files if it was abandoned/something that will not be used in game. Does BW like putting unusable things in the game files? o:

I kinda fear that it's there "to be used in future DLCs." *shudders*

I like how her modern dress is similar to her old one.

Still, Morri Librarian remains my favorite

Yea I think a lot of it has to do with the lighting. Tmp posted a pic of DA2 Alistair with different lighting and he actually looks decent, when compared to the abomination that he was before.

Yeah. I styled it to look like her DAO robes. <3

And 3d models can go far with the perfect lighting.

If I had to guess I'd say that they had plans for a Morrigan cameo of sorts that were abandoned pretty early as they weren't able to fit it into the story. So they probably started working on that morph and then just let it there.

Of course, it could be reborn in DLC... :?

More Morrigan pics in action, against what I would like to think a puny templar, how much I hate them for trying to hunt down Morrigan. No one, no one messes with her not other maleficarum, darkspawn, Flemeth and least of all templars.

If they again relegate Morrigan to an insignificant DLC, and with that face to boot, then I am 90% sure I'm done with the franchise. Right now, I am around 60%.

Either they bring back Morrigan properly, or they don't at all.

I can't really see a good reason why they'd bring her back in a DA2 DLC. All of the Origins cameos were short, as there was no good reason for the Origins characters to hang around for too long, and I don't really see a reason why Morrigan would cross paths with Hawke.

$

Was there a good reason for Darkspawn Chronicles or Golems? Was there even a good reason for Leliana's song (no offense :P)?

There wasn't even a good reason for Witch Hunt, other than give us an inconsequential choice.

I think in her concept art she had a dot on her forehead so probably that's why the artist decided to keep it in the picture, as for why it has to be blue? that I cannot say.

Morrigan is one of DA's top selling points, I think. (For a number of reasons, the OGB plotline being number one). People would really consider buying a DLC with Morrigan in it just because of the unanswered questions.  I just hope they don't make a DLC just because a DLC with Morrigan in it would sell.

EDIT: Haha. Ninja'd by KoP with a more amusing answer. XD

Well, Leliana's Song was standalone and didn't involve the Warden, so if what they had in mind was a standalone Morrigan story that didn't involve Hawke at all, then sure, I could see a reason to do it. But I believe it has been stated that all DA2 DLC will involve Hawke.

And while I understand your dislike of Witch Hunt, there certainly was a good reason to do it. Virtually everyone in this thread was crying for closure with Morrigan after the way Origins ended. Sure, most here wanted an expansion rather than a DLC, but there were certainly was a good reason for it. As for the choice being inconsequential, we'll have to see.

DSC and Golems on the other hand... yeah, those certainly had no reason to exist. Other than to make me look like a fool for starting a thread saying DSC was good.

The only thing wrong I found about WH was that it was extremely short and that marketing basically promoted it falsely. (And also the timeline discrepancy. And a few minor things. Haha.)

So $. There was no real closure. The choice makes it worse and creates more questions than answers.
