Just finished DAII Legacy DLC. the add-on may have been minute by minute a better gaming experience than DA2. It felt like the deep roads expedition in DAO and like the darkspawn faction war in Awakening. I wonder how Morrigan would have reacted to my Hawke defiling an old god altar? Now that the Golden city events seem to have been corroborated, I wonder if the plot related to any foundations for DAIII. The seeker Cassandra sure seemed interested in this Hawke family outing. Interesting trip with Janders and Varric.Missed Morrigan though.

It felt like the deep roads expedition in DAO and like the darkspawn faction war in Awakening. I wonder how Morrigan would have reacted to my Hawke defiling an old god altar? Now that the Golden city events seem to have been corroborated, I wonder if the plot related to any foundations for DAIII. The seeker Cassandra sure seemed interested in this Hawke family outing. Interesting trip with Janders and Varric.Missed Morrigan though.

Yeah I managed to play it the other day at a friend's and did find it interesting that the Golden City story - what with the Tevinter mages actually going there and either finding it black or making it black once they arrived - was more or less confirmed as true, especially if you brought Anders with you.

I just wished the Warden could have done that quest since despite the little bits about Hawke's father, more of the revelations on the Black City and the interactions with the Wardens would have been more meaningful. I did find it neat how Anders commented on the Hero of Ferelden and how they dealt with the Architect.

I'd bet Morrigan wouldn't have opted to defile that Altar of Dumat, but you never know. Maybe if she has the OGB she wouldn't want possible competetion from other Old Gods?

Good question. I'm not sure what flags DA2 is necessarily looking for in the Morrigan romance. Considering the only way you can go through the Eluvian is if you romanced Morrigan, I'm wondering if in the future, BioWare looks at that flag primarily to determine whether the romance is active or not. That wouldn't really make much sense since not going through the Eluvian even if you were previously romancing Morrigan makes sense for some Wardens too.

Yeah, I mean, ultimately, your Warden has no clue whats going on beyond the Eluvian, Morrigan even tells the Warden it might be best to stay behind and you could be a King Cousland who wants to stay behind. But that doesn't mean it should cut off the romance necessarily.

I would think pre-romance to DR Morrigan would not have, but post Warden insisiting on "I will find you Morrigan" to WH ride off into the sunset "I found you Warden" Morrigan would have lived with such an act from Hawke not only to secure OGB power but also out of a nascent moral compass readjustment.

Redundancy there, since that whole conversation assumes you only actually love Morrigan if you did the ritual. That was my biggest beef of many with Witch Hunt; just because your Warden turned down the Ritual doesn't mean he wasn't madly in love with Morrigan or didn't still come looking for her in order to find and try to reunite with the woman he loves. Morrigan rejecting the Warden if the Warden didn't go for the OGB makes sense, but not even to have the option to ask, or apologize, or try for one last kiss is... vexing.

Also, that a friend can't follow her. My Tabris had a great sisterhood with Morrigan and was more than done with all this Shem brontospit, and would happily have bailed on the tedious burden of Warden Commander for parts unknown to hang out with the only sensible human she's ever met.

Cause even in that case, if you romanced Morrigan that implies having slept with her which means she had a normal kid.

Yes you can. In my first bugged WH playthrough, it thought I hadn't done the DR (even though I did) but still recognised the romance, and I went though the Eluvian no problem. Unless you shouldn't have been able to do so, and this was fixed with the other bugs?

Like I said, I know that when WH was first released, it acted as if even if you did the DR, Morrigan gave you dialogue like you didn't do it, but she still recognized the romance and you could still go through the Eluvian with her. I *think* that is still possible. But maybe that was changed in the patch? I don't have any PCs that didn't do the DR...

And while it doesn't seem BioWare will be using Claudia Black anytime soon (unless its true she's voicing the female Sith Warrior in TOR) she does narrate this trailer for EA's other action RPG Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning.

Yeah....I dread that moment. Especially considering they'd need to redesign the Warden's face given the craptastic DA2 facemorph system. I just have little faith that BioWare won't saddle the Warden with all sorts of motivations if he went with Morrigan, when its much more complicated than that.

I have no expectations any such reappearance of Morrigan and/or the Warden and/or the OGb won't be a tremendous disappointment that only succeeds in underwhelming. I'd love to be wrong, but I think the time for properly and adequately resolving that plotline has long since passed. Thats what a second expack to Origins should have been.

Instead we'll likely get a buggy line or 2 of dialogue and a screwed up cameo that totally doesn't react to your prior choices based on an import. Thats just how Morrigan stuff works (or doesn't work).

That's probably what we will get yes, I do not expect anything major or even good. What I am hoping for is minimal damage.

My concern right now is directed at the very fundamentals of the story's direction. I expected DA to move towards low fantasy gradually, but it seems to be headed in the opposite direction.

I think they're almost trying to go A Song of Ice and Fire type trajectory with DA. Problem being Game of Thrones starts out really low fantasy in that there is next to no magic in the first book and only slowly ramps up the supernatural and even then, it stays grounded and more gritty and loaded with costs/consequences. Whereas I think they're trying to gradually ramp up the magic/supernatural in DA, but it already started out pretty loaded with magic/supernatural. I just think DA will end up pretty squarely in generic high fantasy stuff sooner rather than later.

^ Yeah.. but well, to be honest, it could have kinda worked, the big bad blight was done with and there was nothing but petty politics to center the storyline about at the end of DA:O, with some nice questions about supernatural elements of Thedas that could have been answered at the same time without the focus being on them.

But noo, there just needs to be a completely ridiculous war, filled with extremely improbable and stupid plot-devices, one dimensional villains, Morrigan with standard-edition sequel boobjob and the OGB who, it turns out, is EVIL, just because.

Gods, really, I don't even know anymore why I have even that small glimmer of hope that there would ever be even a decent DA-game ever again. Especially as it was more or less confirmed that the new artstyle will stay. Can I say, it is so bloody ugly and ridiculous with all the spikes and feathers and feeding troughs that I couldn't take any story told very seriously when the presentation is so horrible. The artstyle itself is one thing I think that can only work in the "high fantasy"-thing, just give up any remnants of whatever realism that there ever was, even if there wasn't much to begin with, what with the shoulderpads of doom.

But then, I guess I will have to see what they come up with about Morri/warden/OGB-thing and hope they don't completely ruin that, and if(when) they do, at least I can give up any hope and just pretend Dragon Age ended with Witch Hunt and be bitter that it wasn't the expansion it should have been.

Seriously, that quote about "art style and engine is gonna stay" ruined everything.

And "Fans liked Legacy. Dev was happy. Will continue to use Legacy formula." part maked me laugh. Bioware had winning formula in DA:O, their best selling game and then they just completely changed it to have fantasy ME and it backfired. And now they struggle to find the right  formula...when there is one and they just abandoned it.

Why they couldnt have one oldchool series like DA:O and one modern like ME? I will never understand that.

The mage / Templar building up of the conflict had a lot of potential, but they had to bring in idiotic unexplained supernatural elements to dictate the plot because it seems they can't fathom how to write a political plot even decently. Compare that, to the Scoia'Tael / Order build up in TW1. There is little doubt which game offered the more complex, realistic and mature conflict build up.

Yeah, the war in itself is not a bad idea.. but the way the start of it was portrayed and how it seems to be going is - I just really can't see that the mages have much chance in the current situation. Haven't played TW1 so I can't comment on that.. But yeah, the buildup in DA2 just failed miserably.

I think Mage/templar conflict was rather inevitable considering the setting but it seems it is going to fail in execution in so miserably I can't comprehend it.

I'm half expecting DA3:s storyline to be about finding some mysterious lyrium-artifact to end the war, then the thing turns out to be evil, tie in Morri&OGB and then, against all odds, Mages win, Thedas is still in chaos and then the sociopolitical structure is getting a bit of an upheaval thanks to the Legacy-plotpoints tying in and then some ancient evils and beat the ultimate evil.

Altough, I'm still a bit disappointed that the Mage/Templar thing had to be turned into a more or less fullblown war.. it could have been explored without that I think.

Perhaps DA franchise has been less misogynistic than TW1, notwithstanding Geralt being made fun of by the Lady of the Lake and Geralt committing to a stepson relationship. At the same time, my Warden was very willing to chase after our dear Morrigan and Hawke' while being shunned by Aveline, got something superficially acceptable with the cartoonesque yet ultimately sympatheticlly repentant Isabela so, all in all some of us felt the RPG love...
