@vonFurious 32 pounds is not actually 32 euro :| Besides SCEE uses their own currency rate, which states that $1 = E1, therefore in EU PSStore, the expansion is E39, so it costs $52! For a download only version! You have to agree, that this is unfair :|
-sigh-
Please read my post. I know a British pound does not equal an Euro. I was mistaken about the price in Euro, I thought it was 32 EU. I said:
PSN UK 32 pounds for Awakenings would be $48.50 USD
Am I right?
32 [EDIT- 39] Euro would be $43 [$52.73] US Dollars.
now wait for it.... N. American PSN $ 40.00 USD
Nearly all of the United States also charge sales tax for retail purchase. So chances are if you bought it anywhere on a Disc in the United States, it would cost exactly the same as in Europe as a download. In England, a few bits more.
So Europe is paying $12.73 USD (sans tax) more than N. America for the Download Only PSN version. Sounds like its even more expensive in AUS. Bummer down Under.
What is fair? Is fair finding the product you desire at exactly the price you think it is worth on the day of release? How do you know if its worth it or not? Well, you compare the cost to the perceived reward (at least I do).
I was very suspicious of Awakenings value. I have issues with BioWare's Ps3 support. I've got issues with the performance (bugs/ framerate) of Origins. I feel that Origins has more glitches than any other recent Ps3 game I have ever experienced. But I took the time to come to these forums, and read the reviews, and believe it or not, after reading (yes, I actually read people's posts) I came to the conclusion that for all the gnashing of teeth and rending of garmets, those posts that screamed the loudest about "BLURG!!! OMGZ THE *&%$#@@ GAMEZ NOT WURTH IT!!!" actually provided the least insight and obscured the real discussion the most. (This thread illustrated that position most clearly. Please note that the OP has gone back and scrubbed his to make them appear less offensive, but I think you can get the idea).
I came upon this rant the morning after having purchased & played Awakenings off the PSN, and I can tell you conclusions reached as to its value are purely subjective and do more to illuminate what kind of Dragon Age player you are, rather than the intrinsic value/ worth of the game.
Ps3 UK and Europeans are paying a premium for this expansion. Australians are finally getting their Adult's Only content, but its because the price they pay for Awakenings is a "graphic depiction of rape". By all means lets debate this new, and seemingly unfair method of distribution. The huge swath of price disparity is a serious concern we should discuss as a community.
Simply (as one poster here has done) pirating the game, and claiming victory over BioWare and their "unfair" pricing policies is the kind of behavior that has brought us to this place (download only availability). Feeling entitled to a luxury item (Video Games are a Luxury, not a Right) at the moment of its release (the price will drop, you know it will, just wait if its so terribly expensive you feel the need to insult the Mothers of Bioware Employees) and muddying the waters with ill informed rants as per the quality of said new release are the rantings of a spoiled brat.
I live in the United States. We have plenty of ill informed, why-don't-I-get-mine, entitled gobs who go on and on about how right they are in spreading their own ignorance. Frankly Europe, I expected more from you. There goes my feeling of colonial inferiority, gee thanks. Way to go, you've disillusioned another poor Yank.

and im sure the expansion is a alot of fun...and id very much like to play it.
(ill get it for pc for 23 us dollars instead)
however...my query would be this...
in the usa...are the xbox360 and psn prices different? by around 10 us dollars.
and if they are...considering we get the same content...
i cant help but feel this is wrong and means that ps3 owners are indeed getting less value for money. and to me...that sadly is enough of a reason to not purchase it and show i will not be ripped off.
regardless of whether its worth the high asking price(this is the most expensive expansion i have ever seen). i think the differences between prices on the different consoles is not acceptable. and sadly...this means my collectors edition(which already had issues with the soundtrack being on a blu ray instead of dvd) i bought for my ps3 will get less play time in the future than the pc one. which im sure is not what bioware/ea/community would expect to be happening to ps3 users.

I can only imagine, and I certainly don't "Know", that the wide variance in price point (I've heard 30 Euro, 39 Euro, 32 pound, 23 pounds get thrown around) might have something to do with taxes/ tariffs on digital goods. If it doesn't, and EA (the people setting the price) is putting you Euros and P.O.M.E.s over a barrel Pulp-Fiction style and bringing out The Gimp because they want to keep the price artificially high (no used copies available), well then....
Thanks Sibley1, I really do think its lame you gotta pay more, and I sympathize with the folks who are disappointed that it is too expensive. I can't buy a retail version where I live, but I didn't want to wait/ pay to have the disc shipped, that's why I chose to download it. I think I paid a premium to have the game as soon as I possibly could. You folks have no choice but to wait if you don't want to pay for the immediacy premium. My main point is that if you want the game "right now", ante up the dough. If its too expensive, wait. If it doesn't come down in 3 months time, I'll eat my Cartman Stocking cap.

I would buy it for $40 if it were on a disc, with a nice box and cover. That is why I'll wait and buy it someday ... maybe.

I think it quite sucks that players outside of NA are getting hammered by the price of the expansion. And also the fact that there is no HC for much of the world.
My thoughts on the price may be because of the choice of the electronic distribution overseas. Local servers/IP storage and maintenance costs, may be a factor. I would love to see why the price difference.
As for the content itself, I love it, have run into a couple glitches, the swim glitch and a glitch with Marics Sword. the former I found funny when it happened. The latter a bit more irksome.
