I really liked Chrono Cross's OST though. Especially the one in that city place near the beginning.

Chrono Cross truly has one of the best OSTs ever made in my opinion. And I'm not just talking about a couple of songs that really rock (like most OSTs nowadays - basically, you have a couple of awesome songs and all others are forgetable in most cases), but all of CC's songs are simply phenomenal and, more importantly, they don't just rely on bombastic orchestral pieces. Seriously, Scars of Time is a freaking masterpiece.

Oh, and Alone in the Dark as well who's soundtrack is performed by a Bulgarian all-female choire. The game itself may have been buggy as hell (thanks Sega) and overly ambitious, but you cannot deny the awesomness of it's soundtrack when you hear songs like An End for a Prelude?

I know Bethseda didn't write it, but Fallout 3 had a great soundtrack.

The music on GNR or the "actual" soundtrack?  Aside from the tracks played by THUREE DAWWWWWWG, Inon Zur's the composer.
Yes, the same bloke who did DA:O's soundtrack. Genius :D

There are a lot of good ones that leap to mind, but a pretty good song that I've heard recently, and one that not all of you may have heard already, is this song from Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

DAO was pretty good as well.

Gothic 3 for me. One of the only times I bought a soundtrack CD... the music is too awesome. From the first to the last, everyone is great.

Why has nobody mentioned:

Divinity II: Ego Draconis!? Seriously awesome. If I could replace all the music in DA:O with this I'd play it a lot more. Adds a lot to the atmosphere and keeps it fun.

Imagine exploring to this:

The soundtrack to Homeworld did wonders for the ambience of the game, particularly since you spend a good portion of it staring into a starfield slowly moving your ships to and fro. The music during the squad selection scene in Mass Effect 2 always throws me back to Homeworld.

Anyway, it always gave me the impression of the vastness of space and the wonders it could hold, so here's a sample.

Probably becuse not many of our fellow forumites have played Divinity II. I haven't, and I'm a fan of the series. I agree by the way. The few Divinity II tracks I heard on Larian's website impressed me. Kirill Pokrovsky's work sucked me in from Divinity Divinity and hasn't let go since. The soundrack for the first two games is always in my rotation. Now if they would just release Divinity II's soundtrack in CD form...

I mentioned it.
But why hasn't anyone mentioned Beyond good & evil yet? Christophe Héral...

True, I guess. They gave it such bad reviews and while it does have its flaws, they can be overcome if you take the correct approach. They really tried hard with this one and thought about what the gamers would like. I had tremendous fun and laughed so hard at several things. DA:O and ME 2 made me chuckle, but that's about it. CD form... yes... well, at least I bought an original copy of the game!:pinched:

Okay while not in full, my favorite songs from games are. (and these three are basically tied)

1. Invincible--WoW---While not in game, this song was released as part of Warcrafts 15th year anniversry, and its amazing, from an evolution point, it plays off of 2 other songs that sound similar but change overtime, more words, more epic sounding, all three tie into the current primary villian in WoW.
2. Morrowind theme--I loved the **** out of this game, and the song plays perfectly into game itself.
3. Suicide Mission---its on my ipod...nuff said.

But ME2 takes the total game+music cake, each song fit perfectly into whatever the player was trying to do IMO.

Am I the only one that likes the Ogre battle soundtrack in DA:O (also when battling Uldred, Loghain and the Queen of the Black Marsh. Nowhere else)

Seriously, the Tomb Raider series has some awesome music in the early ones as well as some in the later ones.
