After obtaining granite sample from Wending Woods, upon return to Vigil's Keep, the quest arrow sign appears above Dornik in order to complete the quest. However, when attempting to speak with him, he repeats his standard "We'll fix that wall, Warden," the quest does not get completed, and the arrow remains above his head.
The same occurs after obtaining the Heartwood from the Wending Woods, a quest arrow appears over Wade's head, but, again, if you speak to him he won't acknowledge the new material, and the quest will not be completed.

I had this happen, too. What I did was to re-enter the Wending Wood and go into the silverite mine, which activates another part of the quest (a major part, BTW). After completing it, I returned to the keep and, voila!, the characters with the quest symbols responded appropriately with cutscenes, dialogue options and whatnot.
Warning, though! Before entering the silverite mine, be sure to complete the portion of the quest involving the mad elf woman. Reports indicate others have had problems with broken plot lines if they entered the silverite mine before finishing up the elf part of the Wending Wood.
