I refuse to buy a game which requires a constant internet connection to play a single player game. The only time I am connected to the internet is when I am actually doing something on the internet. My cable modem has a button which disconnects it and I use it. I have no problem with connecting once to activate the product or validate a dlc, but any requirement beyond that is completely unnecessary and intrusive.

I have. Nowhere in the rules does it say curiosity or musings are a reportable offence.

Problem is that your version of "curiousity and musings" are just euphemisms for piracy apologism.

I am referring to the hypothetical ME 3 which will require constant connection to play.  I have used Shale on DAO and  the Eviscerator shotgun on ME2 without being connected.  I just had to log on the first time to validate it, after that it works fine offline.  Whatever this bug is, it hasn't affected me.

Same here, but I have Mass Effect 1/2 on Steam and Dragon Age from CD. I don't have to login each time I play, but Steam forces me to login every few days.

When will game developers learn that DRM actually causes pirating...

I agree bloody idiots. There is no DRM in existance that stops pirating yet the fools continue to punish their paying customers only driving them towards pirating in order to play the game hastle free. Not to mention the invasion of privacy these DRM software cause and the fact that they are very difficult to remove completely from your computer even after uninstalling the game.

Current ME2 DLCs have to be played online for me. Guess it's not a universal bug it seems. Well I hope they resolve it soon.

Cracking (such as no-cd cracks) or making a backup copy of a game is perfectly legal if you legally own the game and do not intend to distribute it for sharing purposes or financial gain.

qft

and busomjack should report everyone involved in this thread for indifference to copy protection, which could be seen as supporting piracy lol

except for busomjack

This is kind of funny, I was just listening to Giant Bombcast and they were blasting Ubisoft for this.  Their solution to all of this though boiled down to not making games for the PC anymore.  Not exactly a solution either.  The problem is how does a company keep people with no morals from pirating their games while at the same time not affecting those who actually have morals and bought the game.  Any time a company tries a new way of combating piracy everyone cries bloody murder, regardless of if it will really ever affect the,.

I really don't think not making PC games is a solution. My 360 doesn't get any internet time even when I can. It's just such a stupid idea to make customers have to go online to play certain games or get some updates you might not even want.

The best way of combating Piracy is incentive. The most effective way was with a CD-key and multiplayer. For games that don't have a multi-player aspect, then give them a reason to get a retail version.

GTAIV had "game-stoppers" built in to it. All pirated versions were unable to proceed past two main quests. The first was a car theft, it wouldn't trigger properly, and the second was that the in-game internet wouldn't open. You had to have a legitimate copy, and nobody with a legitimate copy encountered these 'errors'. That is more than enough to encourage people to get a retail game. You don't need to add any of this stupid ****ing DRM

I have to say this. Best way to combat piracy is by fans.

I have got a mate who torrented ME2 to want to buy the legit copy. Rubbed it straight in his face.
