If you turn off the sound effects (0%) then the conversation doesn't cut out. You can leave the voice volume and music volume at 100% but the sound effects (explosions, biotics, gunfire and etc) volume MUST be off for you to hear the confrontation.

On Samaras loyalty mission when Samara and Morinth are fighting the audio cuts out when their biotics meet.
Complete silence till you get the choice to kill samara or morinth. When their biotics "shut off" the sound comes back. I have tried severad diferent audio setings on my console and even tried no suround sound settings. Same result every time. No audio.
Please fix, I wanna hear what the are talking about! lol

The times I have done this mission I believe I had been playing for at least an hour. Maybe less. It occurs on every playthrough of the loyalty mission.
I'm new to this thread so I havent done any of the possible fixes as of yet.
I'm not sure if anyone has ever mentioned this in these threads but I would like to mention myself I suppose that i have run into this audio problem at a different part of the game a few times.
Specifically Grunts loyalty mission during the Rite. As I pressed the button to raise the hammer to strike the ground and start the right, JUST as the hammer strikes the ground to make that loud noise the sound will cut out. This occured on my first playthrough of that mission. It would only last maybe ten seconds and the sound would come back. This occured everytime I pressed the button.
My second playthrough I ran into it again only worse. I pressed the button, hammer struck the ground and the sound cut out and didn't ever come back. I went to my dashboard and restarted then.
Strangely enough though it hasn't happened since then. Though the Samara Morinth showdown glitch still happens consistently. I still dont know what they're saying...

We’re looking into the audio cut-out problem and we need some help from the community. If you are experiencing the problem regularly, please review the questions below and post your answers here. Some of the questions are straight from the guidelines for posting problems, but others are more specific to this issue.
1. Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or after a specific sequence of actions?
2. Are you using a desktop or laptop computer?
3. What operating system are you using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64 bit)?
4. What type of processor are you using (please specify manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you over-clocking your processor?
5. What type of sound card are you using? Is hardware acceleration enabled? What speaker configuration are you using (stereo or surround)?
6. What other applications are running on the computer when you’re playing ME2? Is your virus scanner doing a scan when these issues happen?
7. Do you experience these problems with any other games on this computer?
In the first thread, http://social.biowar...7/index/1501922, we asked for some general information about the kinds of bugs people were seeing and how customers were playing the game. From that, we learned that the most common problem was that audio was cutting out during the Samara / Morinth showdown. We also learned that the problem seems to occur regardless of whether the customer had installed the game to the Xbox 360 hard drive.
In the second thread, http://social.biowar...7/index/1772460, we asked for some more specific information from customers who were experiencing the audio cut-out problem during the Samara / Morinth showdown about any additional audio components they may be using. From that, we learned that the problem does not appear to be related to a specific audio configuration.
In this third thread, we’d like to ask for more details about how customers experiencing the audio cut-out during the Samara / Morinth showdown are playing the game. Specifically:
1. In which level / area of the game did you begin the play session when you encountered this problem?
2. How long had you been playing before this bug happened?
3. What were you doing prior to when this bug happened?
4. If you load a saved game right before this cut-scene, does the problem still occur?
5. If you adjust your turn the music, sound effects, and dialogue settings down to about 80% does the problem still occur? (Thanks to Pacifien for mentioning this in the first thread.)
In order to provide maximum benefit to the programmers looking at this issue, please avoid unnecessary discussion in this thread and posting comments about other problems. If we need more information we’ll either post a general request here or send a PM to specific individuals.
At this point we can’t commit to a particular fix or ETA but we will do our best to keep you updated on our progress.
Thanks for your help.

Well I came across two points when I recently finished 2 three times.
1: Yes. It happened twice recently for being forced to pick the middle choice during the Samara loyalty mission. I had 3 bars plus over half another bar paragon and was forced to pick the midle choice. After I picked the middle choice the game was going like normal until Samara and Morinth were exchangeing words while shooting energy beams at each other. It cuts back in near the end of the fight. I consider this to be a double issue and needs to be fixed. It happened on a soldier character and a adapt.
Second was the N7 mission: Diable False Signal Blue Suns Base mission. After I touched the datapad near the door (Accidently again)then touched the door, the datapad was still playing the audio. Then I got the loading screen, then after it got done loading....NO SOUND! I had to play through the whole rest of the mission with no sound. After I cleared the mission (After dieing three times btw) it seemed permenant. I had no sound at the mission clear screen, loading screen afterward, and on the Normandy. I clicked on the dashboard and got no sound initially but when I was going to go back to the XBOX dashboard, I heard the second chime. I hopped back in the game and I magically got sound back.
2: I am playing the game on my Xbox 360. I currently do not own the game on the PC.
3:
4:
5:
6: I play the game on the disc while no music I installed on the harddrive is playing. I am aware of how some games can be affected by music playing from your hard drive while your playing a game (Capcom's DEAD RISEING 1 as an example) but I do not do that while I am playing MASS EFFECT 2 because I love the music and audio and find it key to playing the game.
7: Yes I have the same problems on the Xbox360 version of Dragon Age Origion's. It's is very noticeable around the Landsmeet part of the game where Logain's giving out parts of his speech after I hit the X button maybe once or twice on accident or on purpose.
Second set of questions
1: As I said before It happened twice recently for being forced to pick the middle choice during the Samara loyalty mission.
2: I had the game since it first came out in Januaury 2010. I had recived the nesessary patches I guess for the latest DLC content to ENSURE IT TO WORK RIGHT. I am guessing the patch for the Kasumi Goto messed up the game to a pivital extent. Currently am waiting for new/current game patch. In terms of Game play...Well...I was playing the game like normal, I was talking to Samara on the Normandy, had conversations as such, went to the elevator, game loaded, talked to Kelly, went to the space map, clicked on it, flew the ship to a mu relay, loaded, flew to Omega, clicked on land, loaded, Chose Samara and Miranda, Went through the first set of doors, talked to Gavorn, said goodbye, left, clicked on doors to afterlife, entered, clicked on second set of doors, entered, talked to Aria, fast forwarded through conversation, clicked and exited, clicked and exited, went to doors leading to shop zone, clicked and entered, clicked and entered, talked to batarian shop owner and terminal (autosaved fine), talked to harlots terminal (autosaved fine), went to hotel room door, clicked, Nef's mom conversation was fine. chose quick paragon, cheered her up (Soldier I skipped, Adapt I picked), clicked and entered Nefs room, read all of journal, conversation with Samara was fine, clicked and exited, clicked and exited, went to Turian near VIP door, chose the Jaruut choice, was let in. talked to expel 10 guy and other patrons (Adapt: Expel 10, fought turians sitting on chair, chose to have bartender treat customers. Soldier: Expel 10 guy, fought turian trying to woo dancer, fought Krogan at bar), conversation with Morinth, I chose correct desions to be taken to Morinth's room for both adapt and soldier (Some where grey due to my soldier being more renegade than paragon and adapt being more paragon than renegade so no serious issues here.), examined machine gun (got plans ok), examined katana, examined krogan statue, examined Hallenx, examined chess board (had a quick outside game conversation with sister compareing Morinth to a anime character), talked to Morinth, Soldier: Chose a couple renegade choices and was being forceful to Morinth which she liked. Adapt: Mainly pushed Paragon which made her quickly suspicious. At the part with Morinth's "Tell me you want me, tell me you'll kill for me" with her eyes all black and the screen semi yellow...I am forced to choose the middle choice on both my adapt and soldier (Adapt=3 and 1/2 bars paragon, 2 bars renegade Soldier=Almost 4 bars renegadeand barely 1/2 bar paragon). I pick it, game seems to run fine. Samara enters room and starts fighting Morinth, Morinth starts fighting back. Then they start shooting a energy beam at each other which makes the situation a draw and there is no audio here. Game runs normal with no sound, my character stops Morinth and Samara kills Morinth (Adapt wanted to choose the paragon choice then protect Samara. Soldier I wanted to pick Renegade but side with Samara anyhow. However as mentioned before no choices are listed on screen since reneage and paragon were both greyed on both characters regardless of paragon/renegade meters). Sound kicks back in when Morinth crawls away from Samara and Samara then kills her. Second situation: I loaded up the game as normal, chose the map, flew to the planet marked "Disable False Signal", flew there, loaded, flew to that planet, landed, loaded, chose Miranda and Grunt, saw the cinematic, Heard Grunt say incomming or whatever, killed the soldiers, clicked on the datapad, stopped and listened to it, looked around, was walking to door, accidently clicked on datapad which started playing the audio of it again, while it's still playing I clicked on the door, game loaded, Lost sound. Played whole mission with no sound, died three times, still no sound, completed no mission, no sound, loaded, no sound, talked to Kelly, no sound from her or me, left her, no sound, hit my xbox button on my controller, no sound, clicked on exit to dashboard, sound chimed in, hit my xbox button on my controller again, sound came back.
3: I think I answered most in 2.
4: Yes. again as mentioned before it happened recently twice with both a adapt and soldier for the Morinth situation. However the "Disable False Signal" is a new thing to me and only happened to my adapt. My soldier had no audio issues with that mission. I did not click on the datapad before clicking on the door.
5: *Scratches head.* Well tragiclly my sfx is at 80 while music and voice is at full. Does this explain why the Cain makes popping noises after fireing? Well regardless how does this warrant it being my problem?
To be honest I never had so many problems with the game before the KASUMI GOTO DLC came out and now with it out, the games like bug mania and needs to be patch for ALOT OF PROBLEMS....FAST....please.

2. Varied
3. Viewing cutscene
4. Yes, but see below
5. Did not adjust settings
As stated above, multiple playthroughs gave same results at first...
I abandoned that mission for the time being in hopes of a patch so I could at least hear the lost dialogue.
Finally replayed the mission but I was higher in Paragon & I was able to select paragon dialogue options this time & I did not encounter the audio cut-out. The only other difference I can think of (besides higher character level & paragon level) was I may have been also playing on hardcore when audio did not cut out, while I believe I was on veteran in earlier attempts when audio did cut out.
(XBOX360 version)

1. Turned on game, chose Load Game from title screen main menu, chose a save game for a female Shepard, play time 49 hours 52 minutes. This loads the game into Morinth’s appartment, before any conversation dialogue has been triggered.
2. Ten minutes from turning on the console and loading the save (game time at approx. 50 hours 2 minutes).
3. I was in the Morinth Ardat-Yakshi conversation, in her appartment, and choosing all Paragon options where available, which led to the fight between Samara and Morinth. The sound effects, dialogue and music cut-out as Morinth said “I am the genetic destiny…” and resumed when Morinth said (if she is chosen to be killed) “and they call me a monster”. No conversation choices were skipped.
4. Yes, this is occurring from the saved game.
5. The problem still occurred with music, sound effects and dialogue volume set to 80%.
The first time I played through to Morinth’s appartment, I saved my game before chatting, then resumed. The game then did not cut-out the sound during the battle with Samara, on this first play through. I returned to the Normandy and saved my game. In the same session, I then spent the next thirty minutes returning to my save before the conversation with Morinth, to replay the fantastic battle scene, but choosing different conversation options each time. I replayed the scene four or five times. On all these occasions the sound was still OK. I then turned off my Xbox for the day.
It was only the following day, when I returned to the save game in Morinth’s appartment, that the sound cut-out during the battle. It has now cut-out every single time I’ve returned to the save game (as described above), bar one or two exceptions when it worked OK under the same circumstances.
This is a great scene, I hope you can fix the problem.
Regards.

1.) I started playing near the end of the Collector ship mission. I was fighting the Scion's and the jumping enemy in order to escape the ship.
2.) I had been playing the game for about 4 hours from that point.
3.) I had finished collector ship mission, recruited Tali, researched weapon upgrades, did Jack's Loyalty mission, then I did Samara's loyalty mission last.
4.) Yes
5.) Yes
Additional note: This time instead of the sound crackling, the sound is GONE completely. The entire scene is simply played in complete silence.

2. A little under an hour.
3. Walking around Morinth's room investigating the objects there.
4. Yes, I loaded a save just before this and it still happened.
5. Adjusting my sound settings to 80% or below did not help the audio cut-out.

I too have this problem at the exact same time with all my three characters.Arijharn wrote...
I'd just like to re-emphasise the fact that it cuts out at the exact same section of the Samara/Morinth showdown; namely where Morinth starts talking about 'ge[enetic destiny...]'
I tested this again on a recent (new) playthrough with a newly imported character and it still fails.

Turn the sound effects volume completely off (0%). You can leave voice volume and music volume at 100% but the sound effects has to be turned off.

You have to turn the sound effects off during the Samara/Morinth fight. The music volume isn't a problem.

Can this be related to something as simple as if you allow yourself to get seduced (and thus get the choice) or no?

Whatever it is that may be causing it, it's definitely a programming nightmare after all.KiddDaBeauty wrote...
I remember the first time I saw this scene, all was fine. I later reloaded and picked Paragon choices before the fight, which lead me to be able to choose. This time, the audio cut off. Second playthrough I used Renegade choices and it still cut the sound off.

I'm surprised we haven't been updated on BioWare's progress with the issue for a while, though.

I doubt it will get fixed. Like I said in a previous post... just turn the sound effects to 0% (off) and you will hear the confrontation.

If I load a save inside of Morinth's apartment (with the same disc or switching discs), then no sound whatsoever plays during the cutscene.
2. Varies, hours to minutes, still the same two results in response #1.
3. See response #1.
4. See response #1 (its a little complicated, the sound problem varies depending where I load a save).
5. No effect whatsoever. Even if I turn off SFX like some in this thread suggest, the problems I noted in response #1 still exist.
Extra info: all of this is among my 6 Shepards, all imported from ME1. I have not done any modding. I have the Xbox 360 version, Collectors' Edition discs. Among my Sheps, they are of different gender and alignment, as are my choices in Samara's loyalty mission and the problem still occurs. And this problem existed before and after the May patch and Kasumi DLC.
I have a noobish question, has anyone actually heard the music during the cutscene? Some act like the issue is with the dialogue cutting in or out, but there is music during the cutscene too. Here is how it is suppose to sound:
Because if not, maybe the sound file or cutscene is corrupted or something, on the disc? I don't know, I'm no programmer, sorry, not telling you how to do your job. Just trying to help
EDIT: I have just experienced a third possibility (compared to the other 2 mentioned in answer #1) during another playthrough getting ready for Overlord. If I load the auto-save created by the mission, right before I convene with Samara outside of the VIP club to go over the plan, and I proceed with the mission, at the part where Shep first appears in Morinth's apartment, the music that should play during the fight starts playing. The music will stop if I start to talk with Morinth. Weird.
