I hope they don't continue with the same character at all. It cheapens the ending of DA:O. Awakenings already eroded that ending with handwaving galore.

I presume you're talking about the Ultimate Sacrifice ending, correct? I agree with you that this particular ending was handled poorly, but there are others (myself included) who went a different route in Origins and whose "ending" in both Origins and Awakening provided no closure at all for the important things.

This. I would be disappointed if you couldn't use the same character. When I played I thought DA was going to be an epic story with the same protogonist the entire time. And if they are going to use another character than I want an expansion that CLEARLY says that this is the last grand adventure my character had. Even if they traveled and stuff afterward, that was their final huge adventure, so to speak. I don't want a "they rode off into the sunset with (love interest) and was never heard from again."

If they continue the Origins Warden's story in future expansions/sequels, I hope they make him/her go back to level one or just stop levelling. The Warden is already insanely powerful in Awakening, even more power and abilities would just make him/her a god.

Personally, I'm of the hope that DA2 is a different storyline. My Warden will always have Origins, but he is not the only hero in the world. I would also prefer DA2 to not be about the Grey Warden/Darkspawn; they can be included, but just not the focus. There's much more to Thedas than the blight.

I'd of course prefer to continue with my Warden with my romance with Zevran...but if that was not viable because of all the variables I'd just like to say....DON"T FORGET THE ROMANCE THIS TIME!!! ;)

Most everyone wants to see Morrigan's kid, and it's an earthshaking event in the making.

Not to mention that if you do the US, then the story ends right there. Awakenings does not really continue it. It's more like an alternate reality, really.

So more or less, the Ritual is canon, like it or not. I'm not sure what is canon is Awakenings because the only thing you were forced to do is kill the Mother.

And playing as the child would be fun. Yes, you can't choose the race, but if you are not going to have an 'ORIGINS' game then the difference between races is purely cosmetic - and most players play as humans ANYWAY.

It would be a fascinating character to play, for sure. Would be amusing to see what kind of mother Morrigan wound up being.

Nah, I hope that the current Warden's story ends with another expansion, and closes all those plot threads, including Morrigan's baby-god-thing. I insist: the ritual is OPTIONAL, and I don't want to have forced canon down our throats.

Hopefully in DA2 we start clean, with new origins / races and in a another country. Maybe a few years after the original.

I don't care if they have Morrigan's baby in the sequel a long as they won't show it down my throat. I don't wanna play as it. I'll be cool if it will be a companion/antagonist/important NPC.

And if we don't get to import our Origins character, I hope that at least there'll be a "Mysterious Wanderer" as an origin of sorts, without any backstory so I can at least PRETEND that my PC is the same one from Origins. Import is greatly preffered though.

New origin stories > Import function IMO.

But I don't mind being reset to level 1, your level is a game abstraction anyway. Why does collecting codex entries make someone better at swinging a sword?

Knowledge is power and it makes you stronger. As for the origin games. The import function should be offered and they can still make this story happen with morrigans baby. I don't think believe it or not it would be to hard to do. They could put it in as more  of a side quest sense it was an option in the first game to begin with. This way they can make a new story, but as for DA: origins two when they announce the title. Your probably right it might be the dawn of a new age, but it better not be a prequel. I won't play it if it is. I would play a story after the awakening which wouldn't I wouldn't mind.  Just they should let you import your characters and your key decisions which I think would be fun.

As for being god.  I think if you were a mage they should let you take a demon challange again. To have a pride demon try to take over your body in the fade. I think this would add to some serious story.

1. They're doing a second xpac.
2. There will be no Dragon Age: Origins 2, just DA2 with whatever subtitle they give it.
3. It is unlikely they’ll have us play the same PC in DA2.

I would guess that since DA 2 will not be subtitled "Origins" (I'd bet on Generations if I had to take a guess) that there will not be an origins segment. I'm betting that the story will continue in much the same vein as Awakening with the character having much more to do then run around in dungeons and slaughter dark spawn. In that regard we might all view Awakening as a sort of play test for concepts that will be integral in DA 2.

While I certainly hope that the decisions I've made good or bad thus far have some impact on the plot I'd honestly rather not see a direct import of the character as is. Awakening showed the limits of the challenge that the system can achieve and was like high level D&D in that nothing was really hard.

For all we know, Morrigan could have had her old god baby with or without the Wardens. It's magic, and we don't make the rules of magic in this setting. All we know is what Morrigan told us, and I think we can all agree that she hardly seems beyond concealing the truth or outright lying. Perhaps the seed of a less tainted Warden makes the process easier, but it can actually be done with an older warden (Riordan) or even without a warden with drawbacks. She'll be back, and she'll have her baby. Who's baby it is will probably depend on your decisions in Origins. At least this is what seems likely to me.

Off of that tangent, I personally don't care whether it's the Origins/Awakening PC in the sequel or not or even if they give us that option. It'd be nice, but not really necessary as far as I'm concerned.

Also, a lot of people hate Morrigan (myself included), and making the Dark ritual being canon would be like a punch in the face.

Prepare your face for punching, then.

Let's look at the facts.

You take the ultimate sacrifice?  There are no hanging plot threads.  No story hooks for a sequel.  Everything is wrapped up perfectly.  The only POSSIBLE story hook, is if you ****ed over Connor, and, really--a desire demon abomination is sidequest material at best.

You had Loghain or Alistair do it?  Same.

You took the dark ritual?  You have the soul of an old god in a human body running around.  That's one hell of a hanging plot thread.  This is more obvious 'sequel' material than ME1's "The Reapers are Coming".  This is more obvious sequel material than AC1's "They're going to mind control everyone."  This is more obvious sequel material than T-2's surviving robot arm that they zoom in on in the last panel.

It was so obviously written in so that it could be expanded upon that it's ridiculous.

All signs point to God Baby as being a major player in any true sequel.

The only other 'real' option would be to have the 'many years' after which the warden disappears from Court/wherever else they are, to be 15+ and handling the teenage god baby in an expansion pack.

However, such an ending would remove all possible plot hooks for a sequel, without coming up with something that, like Awakenings, has tenuous--at best--ties to the original story.

Which would leave the Sequel as likely not including anything that our Wardens did in the original as important.  I would be loathe to call such a game a sequel, as opposed to merely another game in the same setting, personally.

Though I do hope we have many games in the same setting that have nothing to do with our Warden or the things they have done.

I think the game would just plain stink if it didn't let me do this and I know this isn't Mass effect, but still I think it would make the next game mega awesomeness. Image IPB

Id prefer a brand new character with new storyline set for about maybe 20 - 100 years after origins ? Id rather have it as a whole new game instead of nostalgia game "hi there, we havent seen in few years, no I wont come with you but wanna hack some stuff for me?"

so Instead of meeting old characters every once in a while Id rather would like to hear people telling storys about the 4th blight and bards singing about it, also this time I wouldnt want to be a warden anymore, give us something new, also being the ruler in awakening really could give bioware some ideas, I liked the idea that I would need to make decisions considering my land and upgrading my keep & soldiers, bioware could really expand that idea and make the upgrading & decisions matter

but well, If I wanted to make an wishlist it would be way too long so I stop here :)

While I'd love to have the story carry over and a character import, the content would be just too much to ask of any developer. I just want another good game and bioware can do whatever it wants as long as the gameplay is just as long or longer and the choices just as varied. I think it'd be pretty cool if we could play an adventure and then fastward a few decades to adventure in the RESULT of our decisions. That'd be pretty neat.

I understand the want to carry over characters.  After Awakening, though, I got the distinct feeling that the story was over for this Warden and this part of the story.  And with the ending I got in Awakening, I'm actually okay with that.

The only unresolved issue I can see is Morrigan and her child if you chose to go through with the dark ritual and I can't imagine that the writers would just let that plot fade out  to black.  How it will be implemented is a good question since there are just as many people who did not go through with it as that did.

If there is anything I DO NOT WANT for Dragon Age it is to play as Morrigan's child, though.  Just, no.

I really don't see the potential for carrying on the current Warden's story, unless they pull a ME2 and reset you, or radically change the game design. Even as a pretty straightforward 2H warrior, my Warden had a completely full skillbar by the end, and my mages had more spells than they knew what to do with. And if DA:A shows us anything it's that Bioware really struggle with game balance as characters get more powerful. That's entirely understandable, because different party setups will react radically differently and covering all the bases by level 30 is very, very complex.

Here's a thought- DA:2 (working title) could have some new Origins, and one Origin would be 'God-baby'. If you don't pick that Origin, then the character might well still turn up depending on whether your previous Wardern did the nasty or not.

Of course, even if the world is advanced a generation or two, there's a lot of branches that would probably end up being pruned, eg. whether or not the Architect survived, who the royal family are, whether or not Morrigan's plan worked, whether or not Loghain is alive. All of those have potential for far-reaching consequences for Ferelden, and making allowances for every possible combination would seem to be asking for trouble.

While I can understand wanting to carry over characters, in a game as vast as this one, I don't know if that's possible. Particularly if they decide to canonize the Dark Ritual as many think, because it nulls many people's games. And there's going to be the results of the romances. The romance leads were absent in Awakenings, much to many people's fervor, but they still showed up in epilogue cards. Now, I personally romanced Zevran, but just as many people killed him off or had him betray them. I doubt BioWare would go through the trouble of including a character who won't even appear in many people's games, but to not include him in a game with a warden who romanced him is also a mistep.

The easiest solution would be to start up a new character, maybe in a new country, where very little is assumed about the PC from Origins so as not to contradict the choices people made. Honestly, the only thing that would really need to be canonized would be the Dark Ritual. Anything else could be left open to interpretation, especially in another country where the Blight was just a distant rumor and news about the Wardens was slow to come by.

If they were going to make the dark ritual canon, why would they let you do anything else?
Of course, I'm not completely against the dark ritual. Just mostly. I wouldn't mind it if:

  • Morrigan dies in childbirth, and we never see that cow again.
  • The god child is a villain. It being the PC would remove options for Origins and race.

Thats about it. I'm not against the 'god child' idea, just the Morrigan side of it.

Hmm, it's just with the ending of Awakening, along the lines off " the heroes story isn't finished". It ended quite abrupt and i just think if they aren't gonna continue your character they would have tied up the ending much nicer, but there could be another expansion pack on the horizon, just gotta speculate for now. I would like to continue my character though.

unless the darkspawn think they found another old god and you have to find out if they did or not
