Heya, all.  I was just wondering if, during the  Peasant's  Revolt, it's possible to persuade them with the second option, rather than giving them the grain?  Thanks.

I persuaded them pretty readily, but i've got full persuasion ranks and like 50+ cunning, so i don't really have anyone argue with me much :)

Yes, there's another thread on this topic. It looks like if you dealt with the conspirators AND sent some soldiers to defend the peasants then the second persuade option will work.

EDITing this post because it was made on the same day everyone finished Awakening and we thought that was all to it.

If you sent some troops to protect the farms, the peasants will revolt due to food shortages. Not dealing with the conspiracy will cause the second persaude check to fail, and not sending the deserter to prison during court will cause the check to fail (you either get a deserter or murderer depending on how you've dealt with the conspiracy).

If you did not sent any troops to protect the farms, the peasants revolt because they want protection. Unlike the other riot, nothing seems to cause the second persaude checks to fail, which is very inconsistent imo and maybe a glitch.

I have rank 4 coercion and 36 cunning and it failed. I think what a previous poster said is true, that you have to do things to make them believe you. Or have a lot of cunning.

I had over 70 cunning and it still failed for me. You definitely have to do the things a pervious poster said.

I'm not sure what option you're talking about, but I told them the keep couldn't fall or everyone would and to go home (or something like that). They went. I hadn't sent troops to defend them or done anything with conspirators. I went inside and got in a fight with conspirators right afterwards, though. That was a complete surprise.

Anyway, I've told them to go home on two playthroughs now and they go. What happens other than that?

I tried persuading them with over 50 cunning and 4 coercion and they were like "**** you, and your empty words" and tried to liberally apply knives to my face.

It went poorly for them.

I felt bad, however.

They attack you and your guards.

I don't get it. I'm not that cunning--only 47. I have 4 coercion, but so do most people....

I had 4 coercion and 20 cunning, so that might have been my problem. I think it's tied more to your decision regarding the soldiers, though, looking at the comments of others here.

Ah well. I was already kind of leaning towards the Captain's recommendation of force.

Yeah, but I told them to protect the trade routes....

Did you deal with the conspirators in any way?

Nope. Got the surprise of my life when I went inside right after the peasant thing only to be jumped by some nobles and a bunch of crows.

Huh.

Well, maybe they just hate me. Ungrateful gits.

It may be linked to other quests. I got to this part last night, persuaded the peasants to go home and then was ambushed in the keep.

The other quest that might be relevant is (given who the conspirators are, and that the peasants complain about seeing darkspawn from the walls of the city)... have you done the Law and Order quest ?

It sounds like you're not alone. ;) It's probably more odd that they find me so believable. Maybe it's karmic reward for a virtuous PC life. Heh.

I can't remember if I'd killed all the smugglers yet at that point. I do, I'm just not sure exactly when it was. It's likely that I had finished the quest, though.

Most or all of the second persuade checks will fail if you didn't deal with the conspiracy against you, either by taking hostages or completing the dark wolf questline. If you have dealt with the conspiracy, usually the lady with gray hair sides with you and the peasants go home.

All I got was a younger woman saying "She's right. I'm going home." Then they left. I never heard anything about a conspiracy at any point before they attacked.

That probably explains it. I had only moderate Cunning (25) and I persuaded them, the way you described it. I ordered the soldiers to protect the trade routes and then did the Dark wolf questline.

On a side note, taking hostages does seem to lead to the least amount of problems overall. No peasant problem and no conspiracy among the nobles. Still, I prefer to see my enemies and kill them, rather than cow them into submission and wonder who they are...

The Seneschal I belive says something to the effect that someone must have instigated the peasants. I presume that if you have taken steps to weaken the conspiracy, then the leaders who put the peasants up to this aren't as effective.

I haven't finished a game where I took the hostage approach yet, but from what I can tell it looks like the peasants still riot, this time out of desperation. They either riot due to lack of protection from guards, or they will riot due to lack of food. Since the hostage route is supposed to cause the nobles to hate the Commander, it looks like the dark wolf route may be st way to deal with the traitors. Unless you're ok with the murder of Ser Tamrel and the senechal being hurt by that arrow from the Antivan crow.

Exactly the same here.  I have 4 in coercion but low cunning.  I also sent troops to defend the trade routes, and chose the Dark Wolf option.
