I really enjoyed the Hammerhead missions, specifically the Prothean ruins. Such a great feeling I got there.

If the Hammerhead was an experiment in replacing the Mako I'd say it was successful. This vehicle has potential and if incorperated into mineral collecting missions with more of a story line and a bit more difficulty accompanied with the ability to exit the vehicle it could be far more entertaining than the current mineral scaning system.

How? The only thing it has superior to the mako is speed, and in speed I mean completing missions.

The homing rockets are moderately accurate, with a terrible arc, and they don't have that much power except against infantry (durp). The Armor on the Hammerhead is horrendously weak, and we already had the ability to jump. Infact, the only good thing it can do is hover and fly over hazards, other than that, it's an overhyped, gimped piece of flying Cardboard with mediocre Homing Rockets.

Mako please

With regard to the Mako; It was clumsy and slow in combat ; Aiming was tedious ; It was unable to negotiate some terrains and it was unrealistic to consider a high altitude drop from the Normandy without mentioning how you get it back on board without the Normandy landing. All of these 'flaws' are addressed with the Hammerhead. Being able to explore various planets was a definite plus in ME1 and I hope this feature returns in ME3. I'd like to see the Hammerhead utilized in a manner that affords planetary exploration and mineral acquisition accompanied by missions that involve encounters with other beings, friend or enemy.

The element I think Bioware is attempting to address is 'boredom' during gameplay. As much fun as it was exploring worlds in ME1 with the Mako it did become somewhat mundane after time and scaning planets in ME2 was even worse even though the concept seems more technologically advanced. Perhaps an upgrade to a broader planetary scanning system where you could identify planetary resources on a global scale and then select where you would like to deposit the Hammerhead to acquire whatever you need may be a solution. This could include opportunities to; discover unclaimed resources; Do battle with competitors, enemies or inhabitants ; Barter or negotiate with existing mining facilities , colonies etc. or deal with difficult terrains.

Hope this clarifies what I meant by potential

The aiming with the auto-lock is clumsy, and in my opinion, more clumsy then you would consider the Mako, as I never had problems with it's lock on systems. I found it more tedious to run around and sit on a circle for 10 seconds to pick up a small cache of whatever, then to ride around all day. If anything, from your potential idea, would be to just improve the already repetitive mineral scammi...scanning for something easier that includes interaction. I'd rather take a Gunship down to deal with those scenarios then the Hammerhead.

Keep in mind I have other games with high speed vehicular combat, this is nothing revolutionary with a small ground vehicle, nor do I consider anything besides hovering around a technological improvement to what we had with the Mako. We traded armor and shielding for speed and the ability to jump over lava and acid pools with a short boost, something the Mako could have done with careful precision and timing. I find myself playing the firewalker missions only for the 6th Biotic Damage upgrade. Next we'll be getting the ability to barrel roll!

As you said though, it's the completion of boring missions which is what they tried to improve on, and quite frankly I'd rather take a few of the old missions over the new ones. At the very least I would have kept the 120mm Mass Accelerator Cannon and the machine gun. Now instead of metal boxes we have flying cardboard boxes, a major improvement in a system that no one can agree on being a hit.

I liked the speed, the ability to jump and dodge incoming attacks. I agree that hovering was tedious but I considered that to be a necessary evil as obtaining whatever requires getting it onboard.

Again the vehicle itself I think has merit and potential but I should add that the story arc surrounding it and the combat involved was quite poor and like you I'm only doing it for the upgrade although I'm wondering about the significance of the Prothean ball and if it'll expand to full size in my cabin.

So if I can use an improved scanner to globally identify resources on a planet then use the Hammerhead to acquire them in some sort of mission oriented task where I might encounter mining colonies, pirates, wildlife, rough terrains accompanied by a consistant well thought out story line I'd consider that a major improvement.

I hated the fact you could not save within the missions. There's nothing more tedious than having to restart because you took a wrong turn and ended in lava. Besides that, I did find the MAKO far better, in spite of it's tendency to over-stear.

Anyway the stuff was free, and I just removed it again. No complaints. I just hope to see more dlc like Kasumi and Zaeed, though more recruitable characters are not really needed. But interaction with characters, places to go, and stuff to kill. B)

But that would slow down the cover based shooting and we all know planet scanning is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch more fun anyway...

I'm pretty damn frustrated with this DLC now.  I had no problem with it the first time I played it, but for some reason, I just died twice on the same level, and both times I had no idea I was near death! Jumping and strafing did nothing to help. It seems like the only way I could have avoided this was to find cover and take potshots, and if I have to do that while driving a freaking hovertank, something's not right. I strongly hope BioWare adds one of the following when Overlord is released:

Add a "health bar" to show us exactly how damaged the Hammerhead's getting.
Give us the option to save during Hammerhead missions.
Increase the total amout of health the Hammerhead has,
Increase the volume of the alarm that goes off when you're taking damage.

I don't know how I managed to do this without dying on my first try, and I certainly don't know how I managed to die two times in a row on my second try. Hopefully BioWare is listening to the requests people have made on the forums.

The Mako may not have been perfect, but at least it was reliable.

I wonder if you try to play overlord on a file that hasn't finished the first firewalker mission if it'll tell you something about not being able to land.

Well, after resorting to hiding behind cover, I managed to get through this DLC a second time. It makes me wish BioWare had just tweaked the Mako a bit rather than completely replace in favour of the Hammerhead.

Well I reckon the Hammerhead IS a better drive than the Mako.

The jump mechanic in ME1 was never useful and the repair mechanic has been replaced by auto-replenishment. Hmm.

Aside from that, there just needs to be more worthy missions involving it; the problem with the UNC missions from ME1 were a) the pointless driving to hackable rocks and B) the identikit buildings.

So far the vehicle is better, but so far we've had one crappy minigame (hacking minerals) replaced by another ("researching") and nothing new, including Geth as enemies....again. Even if they put Vorcha as enemies it would be something different, but it seems Geth are again the bad guys.

Note: sorry for double posting but this forum hates me editing...

I'd just like shinier planets to explore (read: a more interesting journey, rather than go from map marker A to map marker B a la ME1 or dodge lava a la ME2...), with the more ergonomic vehicle and some more original missions. BDtS was a step in the right direction.
