hey its working now!

anyway here is a synopsis of what I did.

when i installed I had the 'sysdbupg' folder blank (as per one of the steam workarounds). so I went in to change it back to the modifyed version they suggested in the wiki article and then went into the 'ConfigureToolset' exe and set things back to the defaults. and viola it works.

so I want to thank everyone for helping me get this working. right?

P.S. you could still clarify the wiki if you wanted to.
******************************************************************************

so far I've been working with the instructions from the help wiki.

http://social.biowar...troubleshooting

some bullet-points tell you to 'run the toolset configuration' and I don't know what or where that is. (I'm pretty sure its not the 'configure toolset' application)

the last bullet-point tells you to run some command lines, (search run> run.exe > type ' cmd.exe ' ) and while the first one works I have no idea what I'm supposed to look for in the out-put, some clarification would be nice. it says I should substitute my connection string for the final value, giving me this:

reg add "HKCU\\\\\\\\Software\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Toolset\\\\Environment" /v DefaultDatabaseConnection /t REG_SZ /d "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data Source=.\\\\BWDATOOLSET"

is the line below the final value?

"Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data Source=.\\\\BWDATOOLSET"

Why would you be sure that the application called ConfigureToolset.exe (which has the option to let you change databases) isn't the one you want?

bullet 4;

If you already have MSSQLServer Express installed as part of a different program, the toolset may not get the correct configuration to use it. Run the toolset configuration, select "Programmer" as user type, and then click "next" through the configuration wizard until you get to the "Content Database" field. It should read: "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_da_content_euts;Data Source=MSSQLDEV"

where do you select 'programmer' in the ConfigureToolset.exe?

It sounds like its talking about a different program and it doesn't work in the ConfigureToolset.exe.

I just think I'm imputting the data in the wrong spot and/or the wiki is unclear.

problem solved, edited first post with a synopsis and a kinda snarky comment (in retrospect).

(but ironicly I did have to go back and finagle the ConfigureToolset.exe, so maybe I'm just being a jerk. meh, water under the bridge)

You're more clever than I am, I'm still trying to figure out the wording in the terribly written FAQs.
