So I just got the game, installed it all, downloaded a recommended patch deal and I go to play the game.
The fancy boxart intro pops up, screen cuts to black as though ajusting to the screen size, then cuts out saying the program is not responding.

When I check the problem information this comes up...

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH
  Application Name:    MassEffect.exe
  Application Version:    1.2.20608.0
  Application Timestamp:    4a55ff66
  Fault Module Name:    MassEffect.exe

  Exception Offset:    002b5ed6
  OS Version:    6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3

Any help is appreciated.

What's your video card? (If it's an Intel graphics chip, that's the problem...)

It is...

Is there any way around that?

For laptops with an Intel chip: never.  For a desktop equipped that way, get a real video card and install it.

Taking the affirmative response as a sign that you do have an upgrade route, start from here:

If you're gonna dig up old threads then at least learn from them. Post your specs.

I'm having the same problem. I have a toshiba laptop with an intergrated video card, 4 GB Ram, Intell Core Duo t6600 @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz Windows 7 64 bit OS
Even with an intergrated video card I have been able to play games such as Bioshock, Mirror's Edge and Dragon's Age just fine, although to run smoothly I had to turn down the quality of the graphics a bit on Dragon's Age. I really would love to get this game to work. I have tried everything I can think of, running under different windows compatibility modes, running it from the bin. updating the patches. Any help would be great.

You can only make a valid comparison to another UT3 game. Period. I'll dispute with you whether any integrated anything is adequate for Dragon Age; it's bound to be awful looking and nowhere close to being smooth running.

GeneSaika wrote...

I have an ATI Raedeon express 1100 and I should be able to run it, but when I try to play the game it says I do not have a compatible video card.

Gorath Alpha wrote...

ATI's Xpress1100 (and 1150) were both based on the same X300 that the Xpress200 was, and none of them offered SM3 pixel shader functions, which are at least required in part by Dragon Age (the high end Xn00 cards did have the "first notch" of SM3, not the full level of it).  Incidentally, Mass Effect 1 & 2 both require a newer Radeon than the X850, with every part of the SM3 pixel shader functionality.

Similar to almost any other "IGP" (Integrated Graphics Processor), even if the OP's onboard chip had been the Radeon X2100 / X2200 device, based on the X1300, it would be too slow, whether it had the SM3 shaders or not.  Ordinary IGPs are basically the bare minimum, just for limited graphics requirements.

The reason that the word "ordinary" was used just now is the comparatively imminent arrival of a variety of new types of video devices that differ from either ordinary onboard chips or from the current add-in graphic circuit "packages".  Intel has been first to market with, but isn't really offering that much yet.

www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/intel-hd-graphics.html

Both AMD and Intel had been planning to eventually be selling what AMD refers to as an APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), which integrates a full power GPU into the CPU itself.  Those will be available for AMD's end-users' purchase  about February of 2011.  Intel currently sells  i3s, i5s, and i7s with a different onboard arrangement.  The video chip isn't integrated at all; it shares the packaging with the CPU.  It was upgraded somewhat, and with the improvement in CPU to video device communication, is able to match the nVIDIA IGPs on some benchmarks, for the very first time.

But it's not at all a full power GPU.   That (was) still in the future now, for AMD.  For the sake of our gaming community here, I chose to consider the Mainline Game Level ("Medium") as the full power level, making High End "Performance Grade" video into "Double Power" for here and now.

Edited: About three months have passed since this short article was added to the Social Forum PC Tech database, and Intel ended up surrendering most aspects of their long-range ("Larrabee") plan to compete with AMD in this regard.  They will go on with what they have now, a quarter-power video device that doesn't compare with the real thing, and integrate it fully into some future processor designs ("Sandy Bridge", due next April or May).

(...) a couple of threads of similar nature in the ME2 Tech Forum, about the Netbook, Notebook, and Laptop APUs that we should be able to see in various mobile devices at the CES 2011 starting January 6th in Las Vegas.

And, since seeing the last word offered by AMD about their APUs, I have seen a publicity announcement from Intel about something they will be showing on January 5th, as if Sandy Bridge was something that could compete with Fusion.

Actully it looked good and ran fine, slightly slow like at 90 percent as opposed to 100. Do you have any suggestions

Hi, I got Mass Effect for Christmas and it seems to be having the same problem, crashing to the desktop after the window opens, which is strange because it worked for my brother fine on the same computer and Mass Effect 2 works as well. I've tried updating it to the latest patch, running directly from the .exe file and running it in windowed mode. Additionally it would run the config automatically and crash (The Config program) before I started running straight from the .exe file. I also have a dual core Intel RAM if that helps.

OK, dont need most of that info that you posted. The info thats required is listed in this thread.

http://social.biowar...1/index/2012975

Now come the questions.

1) What is an intel dual core RAM? Been in the PC biz for over 20 years, and never heard of it. Do you mean CPU perhaps?

2) Do you share a windows login account with your brother, or seperate accounts? If seperate accounts, then its something specific to your account thats causing the problem.

You mentioned the graphical chipset is a Radeon Mobility chipset. Laptops very rarely have the graphical processing ability as a full blown desktop model. As such, the game wont be fully supported by that chipset.
