As a member of the Cousland family i felt the need for vengance:devil:, and opted to hang him rather than have him in my party, even if it ment i'd lose a squaddie. Who else did the same?

I wanted to, but honestly, my Cousland looked at it from the "We need all the help we can get" angle (Needing 4 wardens to capture? Not too shabby!), and something in his manner when he backed down during his questioning made her decide to at least leave it in the Maker's hands by putting him through the Joining. I now call him her "least favorite conscript", and the way I'm playing it is he's winning her over by becoming a very capable Warden whose heart may actually be in the right place - clearly the opposite of his late, unlamented father.

Out-of-character I coudn't be happier that I let him live. The character is a pleasant surprise, and easily my favorite of the new companions. And I REALLY wanted to hate him because he's a Howe. :) Never mind that he's *lethal*! :)

Now, I have two Couslands...the other one may not be so forgiving. I haven't decided yet. Posted Image

I had planned on it, being a Cousland lover and all myself, but I gave him a chance, and he honestly ended up being one of my new favorite characters.

He's a fool who wants vengence and justice but ignorant of his father's deed. I looked at my Cousland sword and let him go. Unsurprisingly he joined willingly afterwards.

I went in planning to kill him, but then didn't. It didn't seem like something my Queen would do, actually. I mean his dad, yeah, I wished I could have killed him harder. But Nathaniel wasn't even in the country, had things been different I could've ended up married to him, and he seemed a little bit like me at the end of my Origin ... so I thought it only fitting that since his father's acts forced me into becomming a Grey Warden that his son would also become one, keeping the legacy of the Couslands and the Howes bound together still.

Howe shines the best when you let him go. You get an extra dialogue tree if you do not loot the prisoner chest which gives you the option of saying, "He's not his father, let him go." If they ever make Nathaniel romanceable, I'd level up a Cousland just for that. Easily one of my favorite characters of the expansion.

My human noble male rogue {who thinks rouge looks better on women}, went in with a thought to kill him but then I remembered nobility is beyond blood. I ended up liking him a lot too.

I was all for the noose, but I decided to spare him - we're BFFs now! He is very well mannered, and quite a gentleman. I realy like him and Anders. Oghren is begining to overstay his welcome.

I would've just let him go, but since someone didn't survive her Joining I was short one party member and recruited him.

Well, he did evil things other than to the Couslands. I hung him once (my city elf) and let him live once (my Cousland).

But then my city elf really really likes killing humans and really doesn't believe in letting people who won't even say they won't try and kill her, live. She's not a nice person.

But yes, so far I'm liking him a lot.

And not liking Oghren much, honestly.

Same here he actually turns out to be a good guy despite his father's influence my favourite new character now.

As a Human Noble Warrior, I found it really difficult to punish the child for the sin of the father. Particularly since he didn't have the whole story about what happened. I'm not that far into the story, so I'm not sure how it goes yet. But, I'm hoping that he is opened minded and is willing to learn what a monster his father was.

I hung him, my Cousland chick is big into vengeance and would happily have worked her way through the entire Howe family tree given the chance. On the other hand my Magi had no particular care either way and let him go free since all he really did was beat up a few guys who should have been better fighters than they apparently were.

"Are you sure you want to fight behind someone who wants to kill you?"

"Some of my best friends have tried to kill me."

Since I ended up using Zevran quite a lot on that particular character (dwarf noble warrior), I found that bit particularly funny.

A little disappointed when I saw he was an Archer, but he turned out to be a combat beast. Accuracy + Aim gave a near 100 percent crit rate, and the Howe bow was awesome.

Also had pretty good banter with Velana.

You know, Nathanial becomes amazingly sanguine about you slaughtering his Father in the end. I was playing the Cousland HNF Queen and I didn't kill Nathaniel because I wanted to save him. She's a goody-two-shoes. It turns out he isn't the same douche that his dad was, not by a long shot. I was happy to help restore his family honor.

*raises hand*

From the comic, he seemed like an arrogant piece of work and I was just waiting to gut him... but then I got there, and he seemed like a lost and hurting child, and I felt for him. .. and he grows on you, too, even if you are trying to actively dislike him, still.

If they ever release more content, or expand him to be romance-able in the future I will roll up a new FemHN that will stay chaste and marry Alistair off to Anora so that I can romance him.

I was eager to see the interaction of my HNM and Nate H. I was prepared to give him some of what Loghain, and Rendon got in origins, but I ended up sympathizing with him.

Nathaniel was away when all this stuff when down. My character sought revenge against his family's death. So he understood why Nathaniel would want him dead. It was when Nathaniel showed that he didn't have all the facts that I decided not to hang him. I did conscript him though.

A) I want more Wardens, and I want then NAO!

B) If he died "Oh well"

C) Zevran tried to kill me, and he turned into my good friend.

In fact part of "C" was my response to Nate's shock! I loved it! :D

I hope so because I want to romance Mhairi and Velanna... definitely Velanna cause of Nathaniel ironically. I let the farmer live but I live to torment Nat... At least he is of a good sort about it.

I didn't hesitate with my choice and sent him straight to the gallows. Since I lost my Leliana, there is only room for one rogue and my character has that slot filled.

I saw no reason to kill him just because he was a Howe. It was his father that killed my PC family, not him. Plus he's one of my faves now (besides Sigrun and Anders)

I agree, and from my Couslands point of view this game was as much a story of Nathaniel redeeming the Howe name as much as it was about him being Warden Commander. Besides, theres actually a big payoff for the Couslands if you let him live and make him faithful to you.

*Spoiler Alert*

He saves Teryn Fergus, your brother, from a bandit attack - which in turn nets him brownie points and eventually a portion of Amaranthine (small) is given back to the Howes. Nathaniel gives this land to his sisters son and eventually goes to die in the Deep Roads.
