I have the same problem. It all installed successfully (or so it said), but New Game only offers the original options and Other Campaigns is greyed out. So it looks like something hasn't registered properly.

Edit: and I've got a fix for it, I think (there might be a simpler way to do this, but this is what seemed to work for me).

  • Open up your Dragon Age game folder.
  • Open addins, then dao_prc_ep_1 under there.
  • Right-click Edit the manifest.xml file.
  • Select from the  line (this is almost the entire contents of the file).
  • Copy it to the clipboard.
  • Open your My Documents folder.
  • Open up BioWare, Dragon Age, Settings.
  • Right-click Edit the AddIns.xml file.
  • Go right to the bottom of this file, and immediately before the final tag (ie. right after the last tag, paste the text you copied earlier.
  • Save and close everything, then run the game.  Awakening should appear properly now.

THIS FREAKING WORKED! YES! One step that I initially did wrong that wasn't 100% clear to me, Step 9, I would re-word as:

9. Go right to the bottom of this file.  Right after the line "</AddInItem>", paste the text you copied earlier.

Are you sure you're in the Program Files one? There's an addins in the Dragon Age folder in My Documents as well. That's the wrong one.

I'd say after the last </AddInItem>, before </AddInsList>.

   2. Open the BioWare folder.
   3. Open the Dragon Age folder.
   4. Right-click on the Characters folder and select Cut.
   5. Right-click on your Desktop and select Paste.
   6. To restore your Dragon Age saved game files, move the folder mentioned above back into the Dragon Age folder.

Backup the save data in Windows Vista/Windows 7:

   1. Click on the Start button and select Documents
   2. Open the BioWare folder.
   3. Open the Dragon Age folder.
   4. Right-click on the Characters folder and select Cut.
   5. Right-click on your Desktop and select Paste.

Delete the game files (in the default location):

   1. Click on the Start button and select Computer.
   2. Double-click on the Local Disk (C:) drive folder.
   3. Open the Program Files folder.
   4. Right-click on the Dragon Age folder and select Delete.

(Warning: Changes to the registry can cause your computer to operate improperly, so please follow these instructions exactly as they are written.)

Backing up the registry:

Perform the steps listed below to back-up your system's registry. This step is important in case something goes wrong in the process of editing your registry. The back-up you create below will allow you to restore your registry.

   1. Click the Start button (Windows button on Windows Vista) on the Windows Taskbar.
   2. Click Run.
   3. Type regedit into the available text field, and click OK.
   4.
          * If you are using Windows 2000/XP/Vista, click File, and select Export.
          * If you are using Windows 95/98/ME, click Registry, then select Export Registry.
   5. Select All under Export Range.
   6. Title the file 'backup' and click on Save.

Delete the registry keys:

   1. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
   2. Expand the SOFTWARE folder.
   3. Expand the BioWare folder.
   4. Right-click on the Dragon Age folder and select Delete.
   5. Collapse the BioWare folder.
   6. Expand the Electronic Arts folder.
   7. If there is a second Electronic Arts folder, expand that as well.
   8. Right-click on the Dragon Age folder and select Delete.
   9. Collapse the Electronic Arts folder.
  10. Collapse the second Electronic Arts folder, if present.
  11. Expand the Microsoft folder.
  12. Expand the Windows folder.
  13. Expand the CurrentVersion folder.
  14. Expand the Uninstall folder.
  15. Delete the following folder if it appears:
      AEC81925-9C76-4707-84A9-40696C613ED3

Delete the uninstall files:

   1. Click on the Start button and select My Computer / Computer
   2. Select the Local Disk (C:) drive folder
   3. Select the Program Files folder
   4. Select Tools, then Folder Options, then View, then select "Show hidden files and folders"
   5. Select the InstallShield Installation Information folder
   6. Delete the following folder if it appears:
      AEC81925-9C76-4707-84A9-40696C613ED3

Dragon Age: Origins should now be completely removed from your system.

this worked but its outrageous that you have to do this yourself when its obvious many people are having the same problem, you'd think its part of Bioware's job not the customers...

This is still not fixed by Bioware... I bought a repackaged "Utlimate Edition" and all my DLC shows up but not awakening. I know own 2 copies of DA and can't play the expansion. Why isn't this patched?

Perhaps you didn't uninstall the old game before installing Ultimate Edition?  See the links posted here:

Thank you, I can also confirm this works.

If you downloaded Awakening using the EA Download Manager and installed it with a disc-based version of Origins, you might get this error.  The solution, sadly, seems to download and install *both* games using the Download manager... in other words, all disc, or all digital.

If you've used another service, I dunno, but I expect the same solution might work.

I looked through some of this forum and seemed to find a alternativ that works for STEAM sence this solution in this post did not work for me.
Anyway here it is. I want no credit for this because it was not I that came up with this thing.

SOLVED for Steam:
-Make sure that your current user account has write and modify permission for C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Bioware
-Run DAO_UpdateAddinsXml_Steam.exe in the folder C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\redist
-Make sure that you see a 'Result[0]' in the installer dialogue, 'Result[-1]' indicates a problem

Thank You! I have looked for a solution for days. Just stumbled on this.

I usually hate to Necro a post but this deserves it!:wizard:

This method will actually break your DLC. Areas will not trigger properly and reward items for completing DLC will not spawn into inventory properly. Se the solutions round up thread pinned to the top.

Thanks uecasm, this worked for me.

Also thanks to Shenordak for explaining exactly which line in the xml to copy.
