Matthew Fox looks stunningly like Shepard. Sam Worthington is a another good choice.

I find it so damn funny that people want to cry foul on the whole canon thing with a ME movie, and then I see oher people turn around and want to cast Shepard based on his default apperance.

How about we worry about getting a GOOD actor for the role of Shepard, since Shepard can look like ....well anyone

You've seen Matthew Fox's acting right? He's got talent. I think he could pull it off.

Your entitled to your opinion.   I dont agree.      I havent liked anything he has been in.  Though I have not see We Are Marshall.    His TV work I find lacking. I hated Lost.    His other Hollywood roles are Vantage Point and Speed Racer?   Nothing I find insipring for a role like Shepard.

Of course one idea is not use actors at all and make it like the game. Use rendered graphics. It's really good on now days.

I thought he was good in Lost. Not much of a fan of the show but his acting in it is good.

Just wondering. Who do you think would make a good Shepard?

I'd almost prefer the cast of the game play respective characters, but if not, here's a few I thought of:
Illusive Man: Emilio Estavez (He can act better than his doped out brother Charlie) or Anthony Hopkins or Gene Hackman (they may be too old for the role though, but they would be menacing)
Anderson: Denzil Washington

That's all I can think off at the moment to what's already been suggested.

Unlike most people I would rather wait to hear more on the movie before I go picking an actor. Based on my *favorite* personal Shepard, id pick Gerard Butler. Id come across as a huge hypocrite however if I said he should be cast. Depending on if Shepard is Renegade or Paragon would change my choice dramaticly.

Id really rather see a lesser know like Ben Foster(not saying him but more as an example since I just watched Pandorum again) get the role than some huge Hollywood action star. Of course a CGI with the whole original VA cast would be perfect for me. But unlikely to happen.

Male Shepard:                                Hard decision. Must be a good actor with great charisma. Must also be able to play a believable leader & must be a tough, sportive guy.

Don't know. Matthew Fox? Christian Bale? Gerad Butler?

Female Shepard:                          Also Hard decision. Actress should have almost the same skills like the actor of male Shep but should also be a bit feminine & sexy (and not somekind of female body builder).

Can't come up with an actress who would fit into that role at the moment. Most of the actresses  I know seem to be too cute & soft to play such a role.

  • Ashley Williams:                              Erica Cerra („Eureka“) [Perfect actress to fill the role IMO]
  • Kaidan Alenko:                                Maybe Ryan Reynolds?
  • Liara T'soni                                      Rachel Nichols (she already put on green for "Star Trek". Why not blue for "Mass Effect"?)

My other (somewhat) obvious choices:

  •  Illusive Man:                                    Martin Sheen
  • Miranda Lawson:                            Yvonne Strahovski
  • Captain David Anderson:               Keith David
  • Jeff “Joker” Moreau:                        Seth Green

I hope Asari and Turians will be played by real actors wearing masks and not CGI. Other species like Quarians could be played by real actors but that would be somewhat difficult because of their strange legs or because they are too bulky (Krogans).

All CGI charactrers are done by their VA's as should Liara and Tali.

Naveen Andrews as Thane would be interesting but Doug Jones has already done a great job as a similar character in the Hellboy movies.

Wayne Pygram could Saren, just watch some scorpi from farscape.

A much better choice for Udina would be John Noble of Fringe and LOTR fame.

Morrena Baccarin would likely do a great Jack.

Robin Sachs should be Zaeed for obvious reasons, but vinnie Jones would also work well.

Ben Browder could also play shepard, as could Sam Worthington or Mark Meer.

Megan Fox would make a great Jack, she has the look and the acting seems like something she could pull off. Might need an acting coach to pull off the fragile girl underneath the tattoos aspect though.

Dane Cook would make a great joker

Just needs more beard.

Correction: Dane Cook would make a good Shepard.

Wow IF some of these people actually play sheppard I would be so dissapointed...really gerard butler hahahaha, willis?!?!  Travolta?!?! ahaha holy cow. If one of those three play sheppard then I will never see the movie.

Joe Flannigan would be a good sheppard but I heard he might be playing Drake for Uncharted.

I'm pretty sure its going to be live action. But i'm guessing some aliens might be CGI. Wrex, Garrus and others voice actors could play those roles.

What makes you all so sure that the movie will have anything to do with the main game's plot?

Because the rights were sold as the Mass Effect game, not to the Mass Effect universe. Hence its pretty certain that it will be based around the original game.

Matthew Fox, no. He plays Jack well, but he won't work as Shepard. Full stop.

The film should not be about Shepard anyway. And as the main protag (Anderson please) we need Chiwetel Eliofor.

If the film is about Shepard, they should cast Chiwetel too. Hes a diverse and very talented actor, who has excellent screen presence.

Well it looks like he's cast for the lead in the movie The Suffering based off the Midway game.  Well be able to see how he handles a videogame based movie in that.  I do like the guy, he is a very talented actor.  Still not sold on it. But the picture helps.

I heard about that, looking forward to seeing it.

I would like to point out though that we shouldnt think "How he handles a video game character". We need to stop thinking about it like that, a film is a film, a character is a characeter. The inspiration or concept it is based on is irrelevant. As soon as we (And the people involved in making them) start thinking of video game films as simply, more films, we may start seeing a real shift in the resulting quality.

I've seen a lot of Chiwetels performances, and he's always really impressed me (Except in 2012 but that film was absolute rubbish and can be discounted, director and writers fault anyway). There's just something about the guy, he's very alluring (Not in ghey way).
The first film I saw him in was Serenity, and his performance as the agent was just so gripping that I was hooked.
Casting him as Shepard would also be a good move, because judging by the shepard face threads, not many people use black shepards. He may be different enough from what most consider the iconic shepard that they will be able to discount him in there mind, if you know what I mean, and not 'ruin their shepard'.

I did a pretty good job on the image eh? :o

I think the thing with our modern society, especially those of us that get pegged into the "gamer" or "geek" type categories, tend to view movies based on our pastimes a little more harshly that other people and regular moviegoers.   Harry Potter or Twilight fans will be more likely to rip the movies apart and be vocal compared to people who read  books like The Time Traveler's Wife or  P.S. I Love You.   Characters from comics can have YEARS of backhistory and storylines that a actor has to take into consideration that he or she will be judged on.  Video game characters can have 40+ hours of game time a player has engrossed themselves into, maybe even more if its a game series. I think that has alot to do with why video-game movies fail and why comic movies though improved still can crash and burn easily.  Its alot more to to live up to with the actors than just a simple 1 1/2 to 3 hour movie anymore.

Yeh I agree completely.
Put simply fans see these films as failures out of love for the characters?
It's a good thing really, the devs just have to live up to that demand.

However I'm not sure that the films are considered flops because the fans dont like them, its more that they are actually bad films and don't sell near enough tickets. Critics also pigeonhole them (Which only adds to them not selling tickets). They still see games as a childs pasttime, which is utterly wrong. In fact I have seen many surveys and it seems that there is an equal, if not greater amount of players in the 25-40 range than children.
Lets not forget the 'ME is porn' fiasco, and the absolute inability to listen to intelligent and founded reason on behalf of the people involved due to them believing completely that its mainly children playing them.

So many jaded people on the boards...

I'm atleast waiting for a script to be written before I start bashing it.
