Shepard - Sam Worthington, why because he can pull off the Renegade/Paragon and he's done sci fi.
Ashley - Erica Serra, Jo from Eureka, she's got the looks and she's already played a soldier.
Miranda - Yvonne Strahovski
Liara - Rebecca Romjain, she's doen the blue thing before and it works.
Joker - Seth Green
Kaiden - Paul Rudd, I know he does comedy but he's done broadway and can act his butt off.
Plus he's played a gay guy before.
Anderson- Keith David
Udina - Jason Alexander, I know he doesn't look like the game version but he can play a scumbag like no other.
Or Micheal Hogan
Aria - Carrie Ann Moss
Jacob- Jamie Fox
Illusive Man - Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen rocks but is a little too old now and Charlie Sheen is a nut.
Jack - Natalie Portmam, now this is strech but she can pull off the bald thind and she's hot.
Tali - Liz Sroka, it's all about the voice.
Grunt- Jack Black, come on he is a Krogan, just a funny one.
Kasumi - Lucy Lu
Zaeed Massani - Hugh Laurie, just because I want to see him play a tough guy w/ his real accent.
And for the choice of director it come down to 3 for me.
JJ Abrams
John Favreau
Joss Whedon
NO MICHAEL BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you heard me. I don't care if the the choices that Shepard makes or the sex of Shepard or the love interest is different from your own. What made Mass Effect good was the story. If they deviate from it and focus on the First Contact War, they're walking into unexplored territory, essentially taking a risk.
Just because a movie portrays one of the many "Shepards" out there, it doesn't mean the movie's Shepard is a canonical Shepard. It's pretty selfish to not want any other Shepard besides your own to exist. I personally can't stand Femshep, but I still treat her as if she exists in some "alternate universe", just like every other possible shepard and their choices and combat decisions available in the series. This movie would just be showing another "alternate universe", not forming anything canonical.
There's nothing wrong with it.

If miranda was to be in the game, none other than Yvonne Strahovski.
For the reapers, Chuck Norris. Science fiction part would be to see shephard defeat chuck norris
Call me a noob but who is Yvonne Strahovski?
Lots of nice suggestions here but is Mass Effect going to be a Avatar budget movie?

Jack/Rooney Mara

As for the production design (and only that department), I think they could take note from the ghastly Gijoe movie, which nevertheless did costumes like nobody's business

There's actually a way to make canon. First off make Shep brown. In an anime kind of brown that makes it hard to know what his ethnic background is failing this just tan. Then shave his head go with the ultra-nuetral haircut. And a full face beard. Hair must be black and eyes brown. I would expect heavy scarring. He is a Soldier. For service record just say he did it all. Then make Femshep his sister who also appears with biotic powers both of them can use Omni-tools. He's Paragon and She's Renegade. He was a Spacer but she was born on Mindoir and after the raid ran away to Earth. Was eventually tracked down and put under Hannah Shep's care. Met her brother for the first time. This is because Manshep's Father divorced his mother and died in Mindoir Raid. And both of them served in Akuze, Elysium, Torfan, and both are considered for Spectreship.

There's a lot going on and it would need more screen time.
Plus, how would this form of media handle the choices, outcomes, and romances? Certain fans would be left out and not feel as connected. I could handle a Shep from another universe, but I know a couple people who couldn't.
Many of the voice actors could really play the role of the character in the movie/show. I'm still unsure on who would be Shepard (NOT Travolta).
I feel like Mass Effect should stick to the gaming realm though. Not entirely sure why I feel that way.
