We sell video games where I work, and I've noticed that up until about a month ago we have kept Mass Effect 1 for PC in stock regularly. Now all of a sudden, I can't find it anywhere! The Xbox 360 Platinum Hits version is everywhere, but for PC - nada. One would expect that the popularity of Mass Effect 2 would cause a rise in sales for the original game on both platforms,, but that there has been no restock of ME1 for PC anywhere, it leads me to believe that EA and BW are going to repackage it and release it again. At least I hope so! I've been gearing up to build a new PC and am already starting to stock up on games. That's what prompted me to look into getting ME1 for PC, but I've looked everywhere. I know there is the digital download route, but I like my discs.

Anyone hear a buzz about possible re-release of ME1 for PC? I'll be sad if they only have the digital option from here on out :(

Get the digital copy. Use the extra desk space for Image IPB

You'd easily be able to order it from Amazon. I don't suggest going with the digital download. Steam is a horrible company with minimal security to prevent theft of accounts.

Finding a hard copy for any PC game over half a year old is incredibly hard these days. It's pretty sad that around here we have 5 gamestop stores (two of which are in the same mall) and a hand full of independently owned game stores and yet the best place to find a PC game is at wal-mart....

On topic: Buy it on Steam, if you want a hard copy you could probably find it on Amazon or Ebay (used, but why would you want to buy it used, you'll probably end up with a broken disc or no CD key)

I'd say get it from Amazon.  For around 20 bucks you can get the disc. If you don't wanta wait for shipping or some other reason go with the digital copy via Direct2Drive or Steam.  I've used Direct2Drive and had no issues with them.

Don't really want digital, and not interested in Pirate Bay...

And DIY - Amazon doesn't have it, at least not as a "ships from Amazon" option - And what they do have listed is from other sellers and like $45. The game should only be 19.99!

Anyway, my point is that it's pretty mysterious that all of a sudden you can't find ME1 for PC on store shelves easily right now, whereas it was easily available very recently. I understand that PC gaming might be moving toward digital more quickly than consoles, but I have a hard time accepting that ME1 is going all digital so soon. I'm really thinking and hoping they are just in the process of repacking and reprinting. A lot of PC games have been doing that lately - going from those fat cases to a standard DVD sized case.

Steam is amazing for the simple fact I never have to use a game shortcut ever again.

It's $19.99 on Steam.

I hear that, but I keep track of this stuff where I work, and a lot of the really popular games will be regularly stocked, or as I mentioned above, repackaged and reissued. It doesn't seem likely that they would let something that has such a spike in popularity right now, to be just sold through until it's gone.

I should check Walmart. Checked their website, but it's not there. I'll suck it up and go into a physical store I guess (don't love trips to Walmart lol). I might also try to hoof it around to some more Gamestops, of which I've checked some and it also isn't available online there (except the digital version).

Here's the Amazon listing

And I don't consider ebay a "regular" buying option. I sometimes do ebay in acts of desperation, but very rarely. Again, my point being that it is all of a sudden very hard to find in regular stores.

Thanks Soldier. I'm aware the digital versions are all very easily available and for 19.99 ;)

1. You're an idiot
2. Steam isn't a company, it's a program operated by Valve
3. There's nothing wrong with the digital copy of ME1
4. Verify your email and use common sence and a good virus scanner and you won't lose your account
5. You're an idiot

1. The irony of this is you're aclling me an idiot, which is a rather idiotic thing to do given the giant report post button I'm looking at.
2. Steam still has horrible customer service, you're just nit picking at this point.
3. No, not until your account gets hacked and Steam refuses to do anything about it (has happened in the past to people I know).
4. There's other ways to lose your account. Steam has horrible protocol when it comes to user accounts. A good example is that Steam deosn't notify you when your password has been changed on an alternate email like most sites do because there's no alternate email option. It's the perfect site to hack because Steam didn't think that angle through.
5. And I'm just going to report you, it's obvious that you're but hurt over exposing that Steam has a terrible customer service and judging by your terrible attitude you're not gonna learn any other way.

Way to go, acting like a child.

I bought ME1 on Stardock's Impulse, which is somewhat like Steam in which you actually download the game instead of getting the game in a box. But if you prefer a boxed edition, then Amazon, eBay, and the like could work for you.

lmfao.

2. Try 3 months of dealing with Steam. Nice assumption though.
3. Stop downloading random crap off the internet? Please, go lay down for a while before you enbarass yourself further. Passwords get broken all the time, if you're unlucky enough to have it happen to you usually the company providing services will help you beat the fraud being inflicted. Steam doesn't. Instead they go "why do we care? We have your money now." Way to ignore the minimum requirements for your password as well.
4. No sh*t, Sherlock.

You don't understand half of the situation because I never explained it to you and then you have the nerve to start making assumptions about something you don't know about, ridiculing me for absolutely no good reason? As I said before, go lay down before you embarass yourself with your obvious attempts to be an internet tough guy.

Steam have its own issues, especially with DLC but moving on ...

ME1 PC is likely out of stock for a simple reason, Xbox 360 owners that brought the Xbox 360 version back when it was a Xbox 360 exclusive and want to play ME2 on PC with a ME1 import.

There is not reason for people to pick up the Xbox 360 version of ME1, its unlikely ME1 PC players brought the Xbox 360 version of ME2.

I can speak for personal experience since I did just that.

3. Or I'll just keep calling it Steam as the current topic is dealing with a specific account on Steam but whatever makes your e-phallus grow bigger. Right, so when my cousin had this happen obviously it didn't because your word automatically overrides other experiences? Get off your high horse.

The last bit about a password proves you know NOTHING. Even with my very, very limited hacking knowledge I could grab (as an example) your password for these forums, find out your email the account is associated with, screw with that and totally lock you out. Good luck if I do that to anyone's Steam account...oh you'd prefer if I said Valve account but that makes no sense. Maybe now it makes sense that I'm mentioning Steam specifically.

Don't message me again, I have better things to do then to deal with some kid who makes mass assumptions with absolutely zero intel to make the assumptions at least somewhat reasonable. You aren't the only person out there who knows how to use their brain, I suggest you don't take people lightly if you don't know who they are.

3. Or I'll just keep calling it Steam as the
current topic is dealing with a specific account on Steam but whatever
makes your e-phallus grow bigger. Right, so when my cousin had this
happen obviously it didn't because your word automatically overrides
other experiences? Get off your high horse.

The last bit about a
password proves you know NOTHING. Even with my very, very limited
hacking knowledge I could grab (as an example) your password for these
forums, find out your email the account is associated with, screw with
that and totally lock you out. Good luck if I do that to anyone's Steam
account...oh you'd prefer if I said Valve account but that makes no
sense. Maybe now it makes sense that I'm mentioning Steam specifically.

Don't
message me again, I have better things to do then to deal with some kid
who makes mass assumptions with absolutely zero intel to make the
assumptions at least somewhat reasonable. You aren't the only person out
there who knows how to use their brain, I suggest you don't take people
lightly if you don't know who they are.

2. "Single experience"? learn how to count, 2006 was four years ago, that's four years of experience. And learn what exerience means, it means I know how things work.
3. What the hell are you talking about... anyway, your cousin obviously didn't contact Valve customer support, the longest I've seen it take to get a account back is two weeks.

We're posting on a public forum, I'm not "messaging" you, and go ahead and keep calling me a kid, it just proves that you're too immature to have a conversation wtihout calling someone names and saying crap like "whatever makes your e-phallus grow bigger.".

I've had a Steam account since it was first implemented with no issues. I smell user error.

Nah, my cousin was unlucky enough to get hacked by someone smart. They hacked his steam account and then registered it to another email but Steam has bad policies regarding that so there was no confirmation when his password was changed.

Rare situation to be in but it shows that when push comes to shove, if you're unlucky, Steam doesn't care.
For the average user though Steam is fine.

Your cousin must have been hacked before people could verify their emails, making it impossible to change a Steam account's email if you don't have the verifed email, sorry man.

The only problem/bonus with the pc version is that you have to do some serious modifications to get it to run as good as it can. (Disabling corpse cleanup is the best part!!) There's even someone who successfuly imported garrus's me2 face into the me1 pc game, since it's the same mesh it fits like a glove and he finally doesn't look like a bad npc :)

I just want to reiterate that I'm not actually asking where to get a hard copy of Mass Effect for PC off the shelf. I am commenting on my observation that it is no longer as easy to find as it was merely a month ago, and speculating that there will be a reprint and repackaging.

That's the kind of stuff I look forward to playing with for the PC version. I've played the 360 version of ME1 and ME2 a ton, and I can't wait to do some mods and vid capture with the PC versions. ;)
