Wending Woods bug?

Lesson in game design folks: if it's necessary for plot triggers to be activated in a certain order, make it impossible for the PC to encounter them in the wrong order (or figure out how to make sure the scripts handle it right). Wending Woods map obviously in some situations doesn't.

This bug I'd rank up with the mines in terms of "gamebreakiness". If they want to prioritize what to fix first (and I've never run into it but I'm starting to see how others could).


Lesson in forum posting folks:  Don't try to act like you know what you're talking about when you don't.

BTW, I never had this bug. However, just because I didn't means I don't believe the people who say they are having it. Neither does it mean I think they are "doing" anything "wrong".



I was actually offering a suggestion as to what could be causing it. And guess what, unlike you, I'm willing to admit I might be wrong.

I had just sent Nathaniel to disable the first bandit tripwire I came across when I was instantly transported halfway across the map to the Dalish camp and the cutscene triggred for the first time you are there. I should have just reloaded the game at that point. That was my mistake. I figured out from the map which direction the tripwire was and tried to walk there. When I got to the bridge for the first time ever, and from the wrong side, the cutscene of meeting the mad elfwoman triggered twice, back to back. I haven't seen her since. I went on to complete every other quest in the Wending Woods, except for the mine which is locked. My quest marker is telling me to go back to the Dalish camp but nothing happens there. I know exactly where those sylvans are that she must summon for the second encounter but they are inert.

I had exactly this situation, I met the survivor, walked a little towards the tree ents oops I mean er, anyway then got immediately transported north across the river bed and obviously things went astray from there. I met the elf, she warned me blah then nothing, the elf camp is emtpy. the plot marker says go there, and I do but nothing makes anything happen. Major bug I think, obviously well known, and not fixed yet from what I can find.

What I think happens is you teleport (bug) across to the north some, and then the triggers all seem to work in reverse. 
So last night I loaded some older saves and luckily found one at the start near the burning cart, I killed the bandits, and then stopped my party from moving North and only using range weapons killed the fighting tree and bandits.  Then went south /south east only. and  came in from that direction and all worked out it seems so far (now in the Silverite mines).

There have been several gamey glitches in this add-on that certainly were not there in the Origins.
(It started off with my naked character walking along the road at the start as my armour had been ripped lol).

Less QA/ rushed? So this is the first time I am disappointed with Bioware, bought a fair few addons for this and ME and ME2 (DA ones were overpriced but hey) but now I'm wary and going to read a hell of a lot more before purchasing if I do.

Glad to see it the patch coming out, but late for most fans but good news.

as far as I can tell, the 1.04 patch DOES NOT fix this bug. How ridiculous. I've had the game on hold for about 4 months now and they couldn't fix this huge freaking problem. Screw it, I'm done with this game, I'm not going to check 4 months from now to see if patch 1.05 fixes as big a bug as this.

Wanted to share this one tho; helps in some cases.

Sometimes Velanna does not spawn (so it's impossible to confront her).
It seems to happen if you met Militia survivor before visited the Dalish
camp. So when you finally get to camp the "first visit" script starts
instead of "confronting Velanna" script. It can be cured with console
by adding her to a party (runscript zz_gxa_addfollower Velanna). After
that simply talk to her and then second script will start normally.
