Before this patch I was playing..could go on HOURS long stretches and not a single crash..nothing....I've put over 400 hours into this game (sick I know) with hardly ANY kind of crashing (crashed a few times..very few over those hours.)
NOW with this stupid ass patch...I've tried beating the ArchDemon SIX TIMES and it crashes at various points throughout it...
casting spells seems to cause this a lot...as it mostly happens in spell/affect heavy combat..
simply panning the camera, switching characters, using an item...causes a crash..
I've tried removing ALL mods..including paid for DLC's....still crashes same frequency.
I REINSTALLED THE GAME...still..
drivers up to date..
it's your patch..fix it.....yes I've gotten my money's worth out of DA:O but that's still no excuse for not being able to play it now.....AND..I SUPPORTED YOU GUYS by buying DA:O-A..and haven't even tried starting it yet due to these issues.
CAN WE AT LEAST GET A COMFIRMATION FROM SOMEONE THAT YOU'RE AWARE OF IT AND AT LEAST WORKING ON IT????
I've yet to see anyone but a moderator post anything acknowledging these issues...but you already got your money so....why rush on it right guys?

I don't know if it will help, but if you're trying it by loading the autosave that creates just when you enter the Archdemon's lair, then try to load a savegame prior to it (I hope you've saved prior entering the lair), then try beating him again. Maybe that way it won't crash on you, as it hasn't for me...

But now I cannot play at all after installing the patch if I walk my character forward for any random length of time the game crashes to desk top

maybe..if you can find a site that still hosts it...
however it will NOT work with DA:O-Awakenings...Awakenings IS 1.03...so if you have it..then you're SoL.

yep I'm hitting quicksave after every...oh...20 feet I move...before and after each fight immediately...
oh AND I've had to resort to putting it on EASY so I don't have to micromanage...because in a fight..swapping characters causes more crashing..
hell SOME fights I start out and if I can pan the camera so I have NOTHING on screen while my team finishes everything off..seems to have helped if the game doesn't "draw" the affects....may just be coincidence though on that..
regardless..it's EFFIN insulting.
so how about it Bio? at least a "yah we're working on it"??? is that too much to ask since you HAVE OUR MONEY already?

Well, I used Google and found a FileFront link, so that's good. Maybe 1.04 will actually fix the problems that were not covered by 1.03 and those crash/pickpocketing issues added by it.....

I think I am going to try the 1.02a patch. I have spoke with Tech. Support @ EA three times today over these CTD's, the first guy said it is a corrupt game save due to the game being shut down improperly, tried to delete the saves, started over, problem still there, the second guy said that it wasn't compatible with Windows 7 and that I needed to downgrade to XP or Vista (like I am gonna buy another operating system to run a $50 game), and the third person, a lady, stated that it was "likely" a problem with Windows 7 being 64 bit, and that I should run compatibility mode, and she gave me a $15 EA Coupon for my "Troubles", when asked if the patch was the cause, she simply stated she could neither confirm or deny it because the testing hadn't come back yet." Needless to say, even running in compatibility mode, it isn't working, so it likely is a patch problem seeings how Tech Support has an unusually high wait time thru the live chat and the phone support.
No all BS answers. It's the patch.

Ok, ok, wait, what? I have the DA:O case on my desk (Origins, not Awakenings) and the system requrements for the OS states "Windos XP (SP3) or Windows Vista (SP1) or Windows 7"
So what you're more or less telling us is that DA:A and DA:O 1.3 removed compatibility for Win7? And they expected there to be no problems? That would be like your video card manufacturer suddenly removing win7 from its driver list and then demanding you upgrade.
Edit: There's a mod out there now for the pickpocketing bug. Search for "Stealing Fix" under projects.

Yeah, that is what I said. I was quite annoyed at the service I got today, the lady at the end was the only one that tried to help me out, and understood that I was frustrated, the other two didn't care (they were live chat guys, and she was the phone call). Here is a snip-it of that conversation, and please note, I was kinda in a tunnel vision moment because I was slightly po'ed at the time:
Mark: Please let me know exact error massage you get when your game crashes? [01:17:55 PM]
jason: I have Windows 7 and get a message that Dragon Age has stopped working, and that windows is searching for a solution, then it closes. [01:15:31 PM]
Mark: ok [01:18:41 PM]
Mark: I am so sorry to inform you that Dragon Age: Origins is not fully compatible [01:19:04 PM]
jason: It isn't fully compatible? Again, I am going to try not to rant, because it won't solve anything, but why is it on the back of the game case if it isn't fully compatible? [01:16:51 PM]
Mark: Its not made for Windows 7 [01:20:19 PM]
jason: Okay, so basically what should I do, just keep trying save when I can and hope it doesn't crash? [01:18:18 PM]
Mark: You can do it basically [01:21:35 PM]
Mark: But I will suggest you to remove Win 7 from your PC [01:21:46 PM]
Mark: and try using XP or vista 32-Bit [01:21:55 PM]

Ok, I'll admit to being a little annoyed at the OP's tone/attitude at first, but what you just posted there really does deserve some e-screaming. I got a new computer very recently and finally escaped vista- there's no way I'd go back to it!
I am just quite annoyed that they are coming up with nonsense and trying to pass it off as "tech support" instead of addressing the problem, and after today, I am like just as frustrated as the OP. And on top of that, what kind of nonsense is it to tell a paying customer to remove an operating system. I mean what would have happened if they told that to a customer that didn't know anything about computers, and they paid money to downgrade, and still had a non-working game. Meh, I am just tired of game devs putting games out without beta testing them, assuming that the customers will find the bugs, and they will patch it, and then don't bother to test the patch to insure that it isn't potentially gamebreaking. Pure rubbish if you ask me.

Assuming that they had 50 QA testers and they worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 3 months straight [which would be awesome overtime pay], that's a total of 50400 hours put into testing the game.
Now, do you *honestly* think that less that 50400 people bought DAOA and played for an hour or more?
Here's the point. In the first *day* of a large release, people will always find a ton of bugs that the developers never saw. Instead of complaining about it in a manner that is unlikely to gain a good response, post detailed crash information. Include what rig you are running the system on, what your party was, and what *you* think may have led to it. This gives their in-house techs a chance to try and track it down to fix in the next patch.
And no, EA tech support never knows anything. Because it's EA!

I'm frustrated at the crashing as well, but here's what needs to be kept in mind. A decent sized studio might keep anywhere from 20-50 QA personnel on hand depending on the size of the game and the time until going gold. At a max, those testers can usually work up to 16 hours during "crunch time" depending on state laws. In IL, where I worked for Volition INC during the Saints Row development, we could work a max of 12 hours a day.

I agree, irregardless of how well anything (the patch included) was tested, it doesn't make sense for Bioware/EA to pretend there isn't a problem. I mean, try getting through to tech support on any given day (through the website or phones). Today alone I waited approx. a half hour each time trying to get through. I mean, you would think that they would state that "Hey guys, we screwed up just a smidge, that last patch kind broke the game, but we're gonna make it right and are currently working on a patch." If they said that, I would leave the tech support forum and quietly await the patch. I don't honestly think that are unaware of the problem. I don't know, it just seems like instead of accountability, blame is passed off. I mean during my phone conversation with tech support (before they blamed the 64 bit version of Windows 7) they tried saying that because I am running a system I built instead of one I bought, that I may be having problems. I mean, with each tech I talked to they were more concerned blaming me for the game not working than actually trying to assist in fixing the problem.
which is my point...when are we gonna get even just an acknowledgment of the problems this fubar patch brought...
I wouldn't leave entirely, I'd keep eye on tech forums for more notes on it, but I wouldn't complain about it and wouldn't bother making threads like this.
until we get some kind of "we're aware" post from someone OTHER THEN A FORUM MODERATOR these posts need to keep coming

Just want to let you guys know that we are going through this thread and others like to compile your feedback and make sure these sorts of things are entered into our bug database. Thanks a lot and keep it up!
Re the EA tech support: I wouldn't put any stock in what they say as far as the game being compatible with Windows 7. Good gods, even suggesting that you 'remove Win7 from your PC' would be laughable if it wasn't such a pathetic thing for a tech support person to suggest. Those guys are just 'drones' that have a script to follow for trouble shooting and likely know nothing about PCs other than how to turn one on and off. I seriously don't know why tech support for most companies don't automatically bump the user to the next level when they figure out you actually know what you're talking about and have tried all their stock 'solutions'. Ah, I'm ranting. Sorry.
Anyway, the devs are aware of the issues and are collecting info. I don't know if you'll get a direct response from them or not, but they're aware.
