Awakenings is just like another chapter, an epilogue. Which is fine, I guess, but it was way overpriced. $20 would be good, $30 would be fair. But for $40, this expansion should be much MORE of an expansion. The fact that nothing is integrated into the main game, like specializations, stinks, and reeks of laziness. Instead of an expansion, it actually feels more like a separate game in itself, only much, much smaller.
I did enjoy my playthrough of it while it lasted. But now I also feel a bit ripped off.

If you want a well made game with a long and nice story, then do not play new games cause older games like "baldur's gate", "morrowind" is alot better. Creating games is about making money not creating something really fun, if the game is shorter then the gamers will need more games = more money.
I guess all the Final Fantasy games weren't any good. Or just about everything from Squaresoft the last decade. Cause I mean they don't know how to make games. Cause apparently "nothing. Obviously not every company is "all about the money". FFXIII has been in development what 3 years? And I doubt we're going to see some half assed expansion 4 months after it's been out. How about the Legend of Zelda series. Cause those games come out so frequently to capitalize on how good they are. When did Twilight Princess come out? I like BIOWARE as much as the next guy, and I'm not going to make excuses for them about how this reaks of EA, but it kind of does really. That or BIOWARE has just flat out gone corporate. Which I think is the case given the shady way they run the forums here......

In a way, they feel more developed than my own character. In Origins you had - well - 'origins.' In this one, there isn't much reference to who my character was before - some nice bits, but on the whole, very little reaction to her. Duncan must have felt this way at the beginning of Origins...
I'm liking it much better than I imagined, especially after reading the various complaints & squeaks. The world is better looking, the fights better, the trip to the Fade is pleasant & doesn't take hours of my life. It's also clearer. There's a story behind the villain - whereas the AD was basically just a giant winged lizard who was supposed to be a god.

but anyway, what i meant to say was that tales of the sword coast was released 5 months after baldurs gate. throne of baahl 8 months after BG2. shadows of undrentide a year after NWN. hordes of the underdark 6 months after SoU.
basically. yes it could have used some more time, but i think bioware has been able to make very good expansions in short times before.
when awakening was announced i did think that it was too early, but i thought, hey bioware knows what they are doing

haven't used her much. Her story is good - her voice makes me twitch.
As i have mentioned before, Anders has Alistairs lightheartedness (and looks somewhat), zevrans playfulness, and wynnes mageness and "the circle is actually important"ness
Valenna is morrigan but real angry.

Wait what? Let's put this into perspective. The last decade has had FF9, 10, 11, 12 come out. I discount 7 and 8 because they came out in 97 and 99. So I guess I should have said the last 13 years. And if you are saying that you liked NONE of those games, then no offense, but I have ZERO respect for your opinion on RPG's. Are you going to tell me that KOTOR was a lousy RPG next?

I dislike the FF series.. The only FF thing I have liked is the movie, Spirits Within, which all the FF lovers hate... Can't speak for XIII as I haven't played that one yet.

spirits within movie was nice. advent children was fanservice for FF7 fans...
quick quick, lets get back on topic somehow!
did anyone else feel with many enviornents being drenched in thick fog and such, that they were actually playing a NWN module?

I didn't mind the story. I thought its was just the right size for an expansion...also they realease about how long it would be with the initial announcement, so crying about it now just seems a little juvenile.
They game is buggy, and that should be dealt with ASAP. Bioware is better than that.

But there was good stuff too. Equipment was neat, Mr pounce-a-lot was funny, being a judge was entertaining, the new environments were good and the 2nd–to-last moral choice was well done. And the new class specialisations were (mostly) a great addition.
Didn’t quite live up to Origins, but a nice addition never the less.

I did like a lot of the new characters added even though when i met the dwarf chick it was almost over so i dont really know about her. I liked the shadow specialization and the guardian a lot. I liked the whole keep thing a lot. The judge and speech giving was really roleplaying heaven for me. The whole upgrading the keep was really cool. I liked the clearing out the cellar and had hoped for more down there. Possibly another level for every part you finished. Possible for next game they do? Ser Pounce-a-lot gave me flashbacks of minsc and boo. Also making the sword from dragonbone was one thing i really felt was cool. You got to totatly customize it to what you wanted.
Overall:
Pros:
Interesting Story overall
Cool Characters
Nice Dungeons
Keep
Custom sword
The whole ghost story of Dailan
Cons:
Buggy
Lackluster ending
Orfan's Quest
Legionnaire Scout spec
DLC not transferring (I know this was in FAQ but still I paid for it I should have it)
No Shale.

It started off great with the character continuation and keeping the gear and money, story and choices were plentiful at first, then all of a sudden all your choices disapear, its the end game, and you cant do anything else.
I took every single job board quest, every side quest I could find, and apparently unlocked all areas. I did a number of quests, which were rather tedious only to go back to the hand in character to have them act like I didnt do anything, OR they would say thank you basically and I'd get no quest update, xp, or reward. Are the bugged quests blocking more side quests?
Because I couldnt get the side quests to work, or find certain things, I continued with the main quest, which seamed to unlock more areas. For example I got a side quest to go to blackmarsh near the beginning, but blackmarsh wasnt even on the map until nearly the end and when I came back to the keep after black marsh I had to run off to save the city, and after I couldnt do any quests or talk to any of the vendors, like Wade.
To put it in analogy form, Origins is to Awakening as KOTOR is to KOTOR II (yes i know II was a different studio).
It just feels like you get half way through the story line, you are investigating whats happening, then BAM ENDGAME que the cheesy slide show, and you cant do anything else. I never even found the damn granite to rebuild the keep walls.
And for all those who say that it takes a lot of work to make an expansion, no , it really doesnt, and for all the features that were removed I'd call it a reduction pack, not an expansion pack.
The games engine is there, the mechanics are built, they just need to import some custom models and textures into a level maker and do the voiceovers and animations.
If $50 creates an entire game from scratch $40 should provide one hell of an expansion, not this glorified over sized plugin.
I'm not sure its even worth playing again if they did fix the side quests.

Someone said "Bioware + EA = Money" well what the hell is it supposed to equal? Goodwill and Peace to all mankind? Give me a break. It's business plain and simple.
EA gives Bioware a budget, Bioware does the best it can with that budget. I'm sure if they had an unlimited budget there would be everything you all wanted and more, but that's not how things work in the real world people.
All of you are correct Bioware could have given us this or that, or done this or that or whatever 1000 of combination of things everyone is complaining about. They could have done it all, but I guarantee you that if they had, you would all be here complaining about the 5 min. of actual game play there was cuz there was no more money left in the budget to finish the game.

After reading all of these negative posts, I think I will return the game that I had picked up today. $40 is a bit much for a short expansion.
Annoying isn't the shortage of the expantion...
is it is the unfinished and unprofessional apearence of the game
I don't care that the DLC is removed... but I care that the DLC skills are still in my Charakter and are just un usable... and no explaination why... unprofessional.
Unfinished Dialoges with MicroSoft Sam... unfinished.
Many Bugs ... I have tried to count them on Dragon Age wiki... there are more Questbugs than Quests. Over 10 of them are ruining the game if you don't reload from a former savegame.
I lost about 12 Hours of my live to these bugs... NOT considering the Crash bugs... and still I will need to play it again to see 2 quests that are forever blocked because of bugs.
Why haven't they just finish the game and released it in Juni or Juli... -.-
It is now that I see EA starts killing BioWare

Why was there a need to remove companion dialogs that we had in DA:O original? It looks cheap and unfinished. Characters don't seem to be polished enough.
Capital city looks more like a small village, design looks very cheap and lazy. There isn't anyone you could even talk to, including vendors, just click for trade.
The story could have been a lot better and deeper, most part of it seems to be missing and absence of dialogs makes it even worse.
Taking the overall quality into consideration, i say this expansion isn't worth more than 15$, like some big DLC. Never tough Bioware could screw up this much =[.
I agree. It was reasonably good and was fun but it was very watered down. Beyond what you already mentioned, it is way too easy. There is literally no challenge at all.

I'm not sure what the definition of "expansion" is, but in my mind I would love the map to include (expand on) locations in Origins in addition to the new geography - which is what I'll be trying to mod in at some point if possible.

I see that after the success of Origins they had a lot pressure on them, and I guess EA rushed them into an expansion. Its business. I just hope they will realize that making an awesome game every 2 years is much better long term:) For all of us

What is there to say...hm...yes the end is too rushed up. The basic story is quite good, but after you gathered your companions you can clearly feel that Bioware intended to implement more than we actually got at the end.
The new dialog system doesn't work that good on it's own either. I think the best way would be a mix up of the old and the new version. Talks at camp could be supplemented by talks at special points of interest.
All in all I don't hate Awakening. I got solid 15h of good entertainment out of it by now, which is a alright for an expansion, but a bit too little for the 30 Euros you have to pay for it.
At least the rumor that my Warden has been seen with a certain red haired bard lets me hope for the future.
All in all I would give Awakening a 7,5 out of 10, while DA:O would get a 9.
