Dear Mr. Card:
I hope my question is not so blunt that I offend you.
First, I want you to know that I have been reading your stories and books for some time and am completely enamored with the realistic nature of your characters. Since I loved them so much, I wanted to share them, so I gave Ender's Game to a friend of mine to read. His response was completely unexpected to me. He stated that he believed you are attracted to young boys based on how you wrote about the characters. I defended you completely - as any die-hard lover of your work would likely do.
Since that time, I became subconciously aware of molestation or sexuality regarding children in your books. I was surprised to discover that such such topic appear frequently in your writing. I, however, have come to a different conclusion than my friend - especially after reading "Worthy To Be One Of Us". I believe you may be a survivor or closely related to a survivor of child abuse/sexual abuse.
After doing some research, I see that there are many who hold my friends opinion, but not many who hold mine. While you do not have any responsibility to justify yourself or your actions to the general public, I was hoping that you might respond to my question. If you are a survivor, as I presume, then i believe that speaking up may be beneficial to many of your readers, some of whom may be struggling with this same question or issue.
Thank you,
Erolannah
