To Orson Scott Card:

How do you feel writing a comic about a game that endorses homosexuality even though you are out spoken against it?

That's the only question I'm interested in - I got the Mass Effect: Redemtion comics, but I'm quite sure I won't support anything regarding Orson Scott Card.

I agree.

Other people have mentioned it being a political view, but it isn't. He's views are bigoted and I refuse to buy anything he is involved in.

So you are saying you will not buy anything from anyone who does not share your viewpoints?  Card is not the only person who holds this viewpoint, chances are that at least one of the people who designed the computer you are using right now holds them as well.

I don't think that's the point being made here, bobobo. Look at it like this, if you will: Say that I'm attending a same-sex union (or gay marriage) that is supported by the church here in a couple of weeks. Say that I'm great friends with these people, and say that I've spent a lot of my life getting to know them. Then say that my bartender says that they were probably abused or molested when they were kids. Watch me as I leave the bar. He's entitled to his beliefs, and I'm entitled not to agree.

As a heterosexual male, I have no intention of shoving my beliefs down the throat of a homosexual. Demanding tolerance is only going to make people more intolerant. If you want respect, you earn it. Same as anyone else.

Being against something and saying " those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens within that society." are two very different things. If the head designer of my laptop said something similar I would not support them either.  He can believe whatever he wants, but because his beliefs are that of a homophobic bigot I will not buy his work. If he was a neo**** I would not buy his comic either, would you?

Good point Jasmin.

Ironic that you should chime in on this.  H.P. Lovecraft was known to be a racist, and it really showed in his work. Despite this his literature is still considered to hold value.

[/quote]

It's quite true that the influx of races flooding in had quite an impressive toll on lovecrafts work. Lovecraft was fearful, however. Those dark, foreboding, faceless monsters... those were fears he couldn't grasp at or understand, and those were the foundations for his racism, not that that is justifiable, or anything, but it never registered to me as... hate. However, that is a very valid counter argument that has its roots in something that I wasn't attacking in the first place.

My question for Mike Laidlaw: How difficult is it to accommodate the wide range of possible story sequences from the game into the comic book?

As a heterosexual male, consider that you have not experienced intolerance in the same way that anyone in the LGBTQI community has. It is not the same as anyone else, for us to get our respect, and that's the problem.

I wonder how long this has to run on for before Priestly declares this thread "off topic" and closes it?

Huh? I didn't even see any in the game. Maybe they're extinct like the gryphons.

Is the character "Duty" tied in any way to the helm in the game called "Duty"? If so, is the comic a prequel or a sequel?

The rogue will really just be a barbarian with a dagger, and all problems will be solved by yelling, attacking, or flexing.

The question is this, Given that god is infinite and that the universe is also infinite would you like a toasted teacake?

Couple of things:

1. Where are the answers to all of these questions?

2. Who says there are gay characters in Dragon's Age? Zevran's not gay, he just likes sex, with anyone, and pretty much anything. If gay people are claiming Zevran as a gay poster boy, does that mean that gay people don't believe in love? Zevran doesn't, he just bleieves in sex. As for Leliana, she is not gay either, she can be bisexual.

3. Those two characters are only gay if you want them to be, so Card does not have to make them gay, it's however he wants to play it. I've never played them gay, just becuase some people have does that mean I have to?

4. A bigot is a person who "is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion." So all of you who are attacking Mr. Card for his political and or religious beliefs and calling him a bigot? Yeah, by definition you are bigots.

So for me to respond and respect his right to hold to his opinion as a bigot makes me a bigot? That offers a bit of a pantomime. "I hate these people, but to hate me back invites hypocricy!"
...apparently it's "Hate bigots hate".

I just disagree. However, thinking on it all, I find it disrespectul that I brought it up in the first place.

-To the extent of Zhevren, I would agree, however Leliana believes in love, and to solely commit yourself to someone as such invites me to believe that while she may have affections one way or the other, in your story-line her orientation then become canon (if that makes sense?).

Maybe not, but I used to live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Which has one of the largest population of homosexuals in the state. It was pretty common for men to hit on me. Only a few I ever had to get short with, pressing the issue after being told nicely that I don't go that way. This is what I was trying to say: Don't try to force your beliefs on others and don't curse someone for theirs.

"Homosexuality as an acquired characteristic linked to
abuse or molestation in childhood" is ignorance and prejudice though.

Why should we, the tolerant, tolerate his ignorancy?

What does that have to do with forcing an issue? Is he demanding you accept this as fact?

Edit: If you want to continue this, start an off topic thread. We've cluttered this thread up with non question too much as it is.

If you truly are "tolerant" than you tolerate someone else's opinion becuase that's what it means to be tolerant. Calling a person ignorant because they hold a belief that you don't agree with is intolerant. Why should you, the intolerant, tolerate his ignorance (I don't think "ignorancy" is actually a word), because you don't want to be seen as a hypocrite.

By the by, there have been a number of studies indicating that, while not true in all cases, homosexuality has been linked to a history of abuse and molestation in childhood. Notice the qualifier.

So, Dragon Age. Cool game. I have not read the comics, how does Mr. Card treat the protagonist? Does he go the noble route or the "renegade" route? I prefer the noble route myself. Although I did get Moragan pregnant to save both myself and Alastair once. Seemed liked the best choice to set up the eventual sequal.
