Tricky thing about publishing contracts though... they only get extended if your work will sell. While Bioware, EA, and IDW can't fire him for his opinions (since they're religion based and religion is rightfully protected against discrimination) they can fire him if his work doesn't sell.

That's where we come in.

In Mr. Cards case the consequence is us not purchasing the comics. Hopefully this will result in IDW and EA hiring someone else.
Again, doesn't infringe on any of his legal rights. He can still say any hateful uneducated thing we wants to say. He just won't be getting any of our money while he says it.

TBH, I think it's more likely OSC would walk away from BioWare than BioWare firing him.  Given his virulent views, I'd be amazed if OSC is aware of what he's indirectly supporting.  It makes me doubt he's knows about the game's content.

Oh to be a fly on the wall if he and NOM ever get a few emails with DA screenshots (you know the ones), dialogue and character descriptions.  I'd guess his head would go 'xplodey :whistle::wizard:

Why don't you ask himself? There seems to be a forum in his
Hatrack River - The Official Web Site of Orson Scott Card

Some posts seem to be highly critical on his essays.

To be fair: There's also a link to a positive review on Dragon Age #1.

Yes, according to Mr. Priestly, some month ago. They've probably left the unflattering ones out anyway. Looks like the Bioware elves have left the building and headed for greener pastures.

I had this Idea running thru my head today. Of something to add to dragon age game in a expansion of game. Griffons it could be something like the Rise of the Griffons based off that the old wardens rode griffons into battle but they died off 200 years ago. Perhaps have your gray warden on exploration maybe in Andrastes Temple find an egg ? and thus is leads you down both past present and future of the Graywardens. This would also incorporate Air combat. I know Dragon age was talking about going mutliplayer this would be a good step in that direction.

After having played Darkspawn Chronicles i was quite curious if there will actually come an expansion that takes longer than 30mins or so to complete for the darkspawn.Specially considering the option to leave the architect alive for a more brainy darkspawn breed.Would be nice to pick a darkspawn class and do quests for em.To support the grey wardens in the fight against the archdemon since they want to be freed from its call and fight their moron "brothers" or as a stand alone faction...i am not too picky..would just like to play the "bad" side ^^ harr harr!!

@UpiH: OSC hasn't just said some fairly nasty things about gays, he has advocated violent overthrow of the government if same-sex couples are allowed to marry (apparently on the grounds that gays are already allowed heterosexual marriage)

"In the
first place, no law in any state in the United States now or ever
has forbidden homosexuals to marry. The law has never asked that a man
prove his heterosexuality in order to marry a woman, or a woman hers in
order
to marry a man.

Any homosexual man who can persuade a woman to take him as her
husband can avail himself of all the rights of husbandhood under the
law.
And, in fact, many homosexual men have done precisely that, without any
legal
prejudice at all" Link

His rhetoric in response to gay marriage ammendments has been:
"How long before married people answer the dictators thus: Regardless of
law, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts
to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government
and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will
respect and support marriage, and help me raise my children in a society
where they will expect to marry in their turn." Link1, Link2

Legal marriage, at least in the U.S. confers a number of legal benefits, and if you had ever been denied entry to your life-partner's hospital room by his/her homophobic family that had not seen him/her in years, those rights would be particularly important to you.  He is free to believe and say whatever he likes (though advocating violent overthrow of the government walks a nifty legal line that may or may not be a crime).  He uses his income to advocate the oppression of others, and as such, I choose not to financially support him.  His views also tend to bleed into his writing, which would make anything he writes fairly unappealing to me.

Wagner was a phenomenal musician and a raving anti-semite.  I would not have paid him to play at my (Jewish) wedding.  Comparisons with long dead artists of questionable morality who cannot benefit financially from me appreciating their work and use that money to help oppress me are not entirely appropriate.  I find it entirely appropriate to ask if BW intends to alter the treatment of gay/lesbian/bi characters or women in the DA universe.

Again, I have no objection to OSCs personal beliefs or expression of those beliefs until his expression starts interfering with my ability to express my own beliefs.  I'd be tickled twenty shades of pink if the government got out of the business of telling consenting adults what they can do together entirely.

In light of this, I must say I would not financialy support someone who would call me his mortal enemy for advocating gay marriage and equality.

I'm bisexual myself, and I was not sexually abused.  Any psychologist could assure him his assertion that homosexuality is caused by abuse is lunacy in it's own right.

If he merely had personal fealings of dislike, I'd resapect that.  But to say he advocates overthrowing any government that would allow same sex marriage makes him an opressor in his own right and my enemy.

I will not buy this comic book.  I hope Bioware won't involve him any further in their franchises.

3 months. 3 long months since the comic came out, the questions got submitted, and I stopped coming to the forums out of sheer frustration.

Can't help but notice two things

1: Answers? I don't see any but again I haven't been here for a while so maybe they're somewhere else and I'm not seeing them.

2: The Comic never had an issue #2... any uh, ya know, official word on what happened?

Ok, actual question:

I logged on today and noticed that the girl on the cover (who looked like morrigan just the other day) is now blonde.

What happened, and did anyone else notice this?

I myself have not read the comic... and probably won't, after reading some of the complaints here.

She has always been blond on the cover, as far as I know.
I'll mimick the previous question about a follow up comic, though, will there be a second issue?

I apologize.

I'm glad to hear Bioware respects writers who have different opinions from the vox populi, like Mr. Gaider said. It would be a shame if they started caring about punishing a writer for not having politically correct beliefs.

There is a difference between not being politically correct and being a bigot. Would you be saying the same thing if Orson Card thought that women were mentally inferior?

Also Kudos to bioware for just blowing this off. <_<
